Napoli vs Udinese: Serie A Title Decider or Dead Rubber?
This is matchday 38, the final round of the 2025/26 Serie A season, and Napoli are sitting second with 73 points under Antonio Conte. Whether the title is still alive or already settled by Sunday depends on what happens above them, but for Napoli this is a home game they absolutely cannot afford to drop. Udinese, comfortably mid-table on 50 points, arrive at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona with nothing meaningful on the line. That gap in motivation is a serious factor here.
Form and League Position
Napoli’s recent form is patchier than you’d expect from a title-chasing side. They were thumped 2-3 by Bologna at home and lost 0-2 to Lazio on their own turf earlier in this run. But there’s a counter-argument: they tore Cremonese apart 4-0 and went to Pisa and won 3-0. The big performances are there. The inconsistency is the concern.
Conte’s attacking options are genuinely exciting. Rasmus Hรธjlund leads the scoring charts with 11 goals and 5 assists in 32 appearances, and Scott McTominay has been a revelation with 10 goals from midfield. Kevin De Bruyne chips in too. There’s plenty of firepower in this squad and, on a final day with the crowd behind them, expect Napoli to come out swinging.
Udinese have been decent away from home this season, collecting 8 wins on the road, and their last five games show two wins and a draw, including a 2-0 at Cagliari. Kieffer Davis has 10 goals for them this season and Nicolo Zaniolo has been involved in attack regularly, but Zaniolo is listed as missing this fixture. That’s a significant loss. He contributes both goals and creativity, and without him Runjaic’s side look considerably blunted going forward.
Injuries and Team News
Romelu Lukaku is confirmed absent for Napoli. He’s been a useful option off the bench or in rotation, so his absence is felt, but with Hรธjlund and the depth Conte has available, it’s not a crisis. Napoli should still have more than enough to break down a Udinese defence that has conceded in plenty of their home fixtures this term.
For Udinese, it’s worse. Zaniolo is missing, which strips them of their most creative presence, and H. Kamara is also out. David Neres is questionable. A side travelling to the Maradona on the final day, with nothing to play for and their best creative player absent, is not a unit you want to be backing.
Head-to-Head
The recent head-to-head record between these two is tight. Udinese actually won the corresponding fixture in December 2025, beating Napoli 1-0 at the Dacia Arena, and this season’s reverse fixture at the Maradona ended 1-1 earlier in 2025/26. Go back further and Napoli have done the damage, winning 3-1 at the Dacia Arena in 2024/25 and putting four past Udinese in September 2023. The away wins for Udinese are there, so they’re not a pushover, but the context of those results matters less when they’re missing key personnel on a final-day occasion.
The Betting Angle
Napoli at 1.52 isn’t the most exciting price, but this has the right conditions for a home win. Title-chasing side, roaring home crowd, motivated manager in Conte, key Udinese absentees, and a visiting team with nothing to fight for. The statistical model gives both sides a 45% probability, but that feels overly generous to Udinese given the context. A team missing Zaniolo and Kamara, playing a dead rubber away at a title contender’s fortress, should not be drawing level probability with the home side.
Over 2.5 goals at 1.92 is also worth a look given Napoli’s firepower and the open nature of Udinese away from home, but the main play is straightforward. Napoli to win.
Odds: 1.52 โ BoyleSports
Napoli need the points on the final day, Conte will have them motivated, and Udinese are travelling with a depleted squad and no stakes. Zaniolo and Kamara both missing strips real quality from the visitors, and the Maradona crowd will make this a tough evening for a side already mentally on their holidays.
