Ascot, Saturday 11 July 2026: Tips and Analysis

A seven-race card at Ascot on ground officially described as Good to Firm, though light rain is expected to ease conditions through the afternoon. That matters here. Ascot at this time of year rewards horses that have already proven themselves on quick ground, and any softening could benefit those with more give in their action. Three races stand out for punters looking for value, and there is a genuine each-way case in the big sprint handicap.

1:55 โ€” Club 26 Heritage Handicap (5f, Good to Firm)

Sixteen runners in a fast-ground sprint at Ascot. This is exactly the kind of race where you dig past the market leaders and find something with course suitability, a live each-way angle, and a yard in decent nick.

Annaf Each-Way at 13/2 (Betfred / LiveScore Bet) is the pick. The seven-year-old Michael Appleby runner comes into this off a third-place finish last time out, his best effort in a six-race sequence that had been frustratingly inconsistent. He has the trip and the going covered, returns fit on just 14 days rest, and tops the field on the figures available. Appleby’s yard is only operating at 2 from 23 over the last fortnight, which is the caveat, but the horse himself is in the form of his life relative to his recent history. Cieren Fallon takes the ride, always useful at this venue.

Adrestia is interesting at 11/1 (Betfred) on figures alone, ranking third in the field, though the Crisford yard is stonecold right now at 0 from 23 over the last 14 days. That killsher chances of being the main selection, but worth noting for those playing exotics.

King Of Light is hard to dismiss at 13/2 after winning last time, proven at the trip and going, back quickly after just 12 days. The concern is Stuart Williams has had a difficult recent fortnight at 0 from 18, and alternating form can catch you when the pressure is on in a field this competitive.

2:27 โ€” Juddmonte Summer Mile Stakes (Group 2, 1m)

Group 2 company, eight runners, and arguably the race of the day. The market is dominated by More Thunder at 11/10 and Zeus Olympios at 10/3, but there is a serious case for taking the unbeaten French raider at a price.

No Lunch at 10/1 (LiveScore Bet) demands serious consideration. Five wins from five career starts is extraordinary, and the comment from form experts is clear: he remains unexposed with scope to progress further. Yes, he is fresher than most having been off 71 days, and stall 7 in an eight-runner field is not ideal at a mile, but his unbeaten record and upward trajectory point to a horse still improving. Maxime Guyon takes the ride, a top-class jockey who knows what he is sitting on. At 10/1 in a Group 2 against rivals who have all been beaten recently, the value is sitting right there.

The favourite, More Thunder (11/10, Boyle Sports / LiveScore Bet), has to be respected. William Haggas has had a productive recent spell at 12 from 56, and the horse is proven at the trip and going, finishing placed in his last two. He is the obvious market leader for good reason. But 11/10 in a Group 2 with a five-time winner in the field at 10/1 is not the play.

Zeus Olympios at 10/3 tops the figures for the race and has twice been beaten only into third in this calibre of company. The downward trend from two wins into back-to-back placed efforts before a fourth last time is a flag, but K.R. Burke’s yard has been ticking over at 7 from 55 over the past fortnight. On figures he makes sense, but at 10/3 you are paying for talent that has been sliding.

The value play is No Lunch. Unbeaten horses with clean form lines do not stay unbeaten forever, but at double-figure prices, you are getting compensated for the risk. This is a three-way each-way race paying three places at 1/5 odds, but at 10/1 this is arguably a win bet.

4:12 โ€” Side Glance Story Book Launch Handicap (1m4f, Good to Firm)

A smaller handicap over a mile and a half with eight runners. William Muir and Chris Grassick have a strong Ascot course record (15% wins, A/E of 1.66), though their runner Blue Hercules is rated 69 and can be safely ignored.

Nightime Dancer at 9/2 (Boyle Sports / Betfred / LiveScore Bet) heads the field on a rating of 109 and has been consistently competitive despite not winning in his last five outings. Places second and twice fourth in that sequence tell you this is a horse running well without getting the job done. Sean Levey rides for Richard Hannon, a yard that has had a reasonable recent spell at 6 from 57. Proven at the distance and going, back after 22 days, and carrying top weight as the highest-rated in the field. He is the standout on figures.

Ernst Blofeld at 2/1 is the market leader, and at a mile and a half with the trip covered, there is no obvious reason to dismiss him. But a flat seventh last time out and a trainer with no wins from 12 over the last fortnight makes 2/1 a short price for something that needs to bounce back. Nightime Dancer at 9/2 is the better-priced runner in the field.

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksNo Lunch โ€” Juddmonte Summer Mile Stakes (2:27, Ascot)
Odds: 10/1 โ€” LiveScore Bet (others: 11/1 Boyle Sports, 11/1 Betfred)

Five wins from five career starts, still unexposed, and with form analysts pointing to further improvement. In a race where every other runner has suffered a defeat or a dip in form recently, a genuinely unbeaten horse at 10/1 in a Group 2 is not something you see every week. Maxime Guyon is a world-class booking, the trip and going are covered, and 71 days of freshness on a horse still on the way up is not a concern, it is a feature. Exceptional value at the price.
