Ayr Tips: Saturday 20 June 2026

A seven-race card at Ayr on soft ground, with the sunshine drying things out only slowly. Soft going on the Ayr straight is a serious filter today, and any horse with a preference for cut underfoot moves up the pecking order considerably. Three races stand out for punters, and there are some interesting angles to work through across the card.

William Haggas continues to fire at Ayr, his 26% strike rate from 124 runners here is seriously impressive. Archie Watson’s 32% course record is even sharper. Keep both yards in mind as you read through.

1:48 — Tapestry Events EBF Maiden Stakes (6f, Soft)

A six-runner maiden over six furlongs, and this is fundamentally a three-horse race. Statten Island heads the market at 10/11 for Kevin Ryan after a debut fourth, and there is obvious market confidence behind him. But the price is too short for a horse that finished fourth on his first start and is still finding his feet.

The selection here is Thebesthasyetocome at 9/4 with Boyle Sports and Betfred. Adrian Paul Keatley has sent this colt over from Ireland showing a debut third, and Irish-trained juveniles making the trip to Ayr for a maiden rarely do so without confidence. The market respects him as clear second favourite. At 9/4 against a short-priced horse who has only ever finished fourth, this is the value call. Mikey Sheehy takes the ride for a yard that has been in decent form over the past fortnight.

Maximus Meridius at 15/2 is the each-way alternative if you want to spread the risk in a small field, though six runners means only two place positions, which limits the appeal somewhat.

2:53 — Unite Natalie Egan Celebration Handicap (1m5f, Soft)

Twelve runners over a mile and a half in soft ground. This is a proper staying test, and horses that handle cut will have a significant edge. The Crisford yard has a modest 21% course strike rate at Ayr but their 14-day numbers are poor at 1/20, so Boatswain can be swerved despite the yard’s course profile.

Square Necker Each-Way at 7/1 with Boyle Sports and Betfred catches the eye. Trained by Kevin Philippart De Foy, this four-year-old gelding arrives with a form line reading 31-21, which means he has been placed or won in four of his six completed starts. A winner last time out and a consistent performer at this sort of trip, he goes into a 12-runner handicap off what looks a fair mark. Soft ground is no obstacle for a horse bred to get the trip. At 7/1 in a competitive handicap, there is genuine each-way value here with the four-place terms on offer at 1/4 odds.

Dancingwithmyself at 5/1 is the obvious rival, trained by Michael Bell who has been quietly ticking over, but the form reading 13-243 shows a horse that keeps finding one or two ahead of her rather than winning. Square Necker’s more recent winning form makes him the pick.

Andrew Balding’s Peaky Blinder at 6/1 is worth a mention on the 391-10 form, but the last run showing a zero is a concern.

4:08 — Unite George Ramsay Celebration EBF Land O’Burns Fillies’ Stakes (Listed, 5f, Soft)

The feature race on the card. A Listed sprint for fillies over five furlongs, and the going here could be crucial. Fifteen runners, good prize money, and a market dominated by Beautiful Diamond at odds-on.

Beautiful Diamond is the clear form pick on paper, trained by K R Burke who has been running at a solid 9/50 over the past fortnight. The form line 12-393 shows a horse that has been in competitive company, and Burke regularly targets this race. At 5/6, though, the market has priced out any value completely.

The angle here is Rose Of Honour at 7/1 with LiveScore Bet. Trained by James Tate and ridden by Lewis Edmunds, this filly arrives with a stunning form line of 11-1, three wins from three completed starts. She is unbeaten when she has finished a race, which is about as clean a profile as you will find in a field of 15. Tate has been running at a productive 3/12 over the past 14 days. Soft ground is the one question mark, but the yard would not have entered a horse with three wins from three if they had major going concerns.

At 7/1 against an odds-on favourite whose last three runs read 3-9-3, Rose Of Honour represents the stand-out value in the race.

Kinswoman Each-Way at 8/1 with Boyle Sports also deserves consideration. William Haggas, the best trainer at this track by any measure, saddles this four-year-old who showed form reading 121-26. Harry Davies takes the ride and Haggas’s 26% Ayr strike rate from over 100 runners is not a fluke. At 8/1 in a 15-runner Listed race with three place positions on offer, there is each-way appeal.

Soft ground is the only caveat, but the Tate yard knows exactly what they have entered here.
