Ayr, Monday 27 July 2026: Tips & Preview

Glorious Goodwood kicks off tomorrow, but before the festival circus rolls into West Sussex, Ayr serves up a tight seven-race card on Good To Firm ground. The sun-baked surface suits horses who like to bowl along on top of the ground, and with Jim Goldie sending out runners across multiple races, his local knowledge is worth factoring in throughout the afternoon. Three races stand out as genuinely puntable. Here are the angles worth following.

2:15 Ladbrokes EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (7f, Good To Firm)

Five runners, two places, and a tight market. Little Lady Karen sits at 10/11 with BoyleSports and looks the form pick. Karl Burke has been firing at 8/25 in the last 14 days, a yard very much in business, and Pierre-Louis Jamin has the experience to hold up a short-priced filly on this quick ground. A record of 3-2 tells you she handles company and gets close. The seven furlongs on Good To Firm at Ayr should pose no problems.

The upset candidate is March Lilly at 11/4. Kevin Ryan’s yard has gone cold recently (0/19 in the last 14 days), which is a genuine concern, but this filly showed something with a third on debut and Tom Eaves knows this track well. At the price, she offers more interest than the odds-on favourite if you fancy a saver.

Selection: Little Lady Karen at 10/11 (BoyleSports). Back the Burke yard form and move on.

3:15 Ladbrokes ‘Big Daily Boosts On Racing’ Handicap Stakes (7f, Good To Firm)

Six runners and a genuine puzzle. The speed figures make this interesting. Abduction tops the figures on 77, and three consecutive thirds show a horse finding his level after a rough patch. Jim Goldie knows Ayr inside out, and Jake Dickson’s 5lb claim takes the sting out of the weight. Three weeks fresh, at home on this trip and going, and the fastest horse in the field on the numbers. At 8/1 with BoyleSports, that is a number worth taking.

Abduction Each-Way at 8/1 is the call. He hasn’t won in six, and that is the risk you accept, but three places in a row and the top speed figure in the field argue hard for a place return at minimum.

Native Honey won last time and rates the main danger at 7/2. Paul Mulrennan rides and he’s as reliable a pilot as you’ll find round here, with 172 course winners behind him. If you’re siding with the form horse, Native Honey is the straightforward pick. Abduction is the value play.

Selection: Abduction Each-Way at 8/1 (BoyleSports). EW terms: 2 places at 1/4 odds.

4:15 Ladbrokes Handicap Stakes (1m2f, Good To Firm)

Rastnet is a non-runner, leaving six to go. The market has made Empirical a very short-priced favourite at 4/6, but Ed Walker’s gelding carries a modest speed figure of 68 and a pretty inconsistent recent profile. Winning last time out counts, but three modest efforts before that and a 25-day absence make trusting him at odds-on a stretch.

Pearl Eye at 4/1 (BoyleSports) is the horse the figures scream. Jim Goldie’s six-year-old carries the best speed figure in the race on 83, won last time out, and has four placed efforts in his last six starts. Paul Mulrennan takes the ride, and on this track that pairing is as reliable as it gets. Fit inside a fortnight, proven on today’s trip and going, and considerably better value than the jolly. This is not a race to side with the skinny favourite.

Geo at 8/1 also deserves respect. Three runner-up finishes in four starts and a 77 speed figure make her a serious each-way contender in this field, but Pearl Eye is the stronger case at the head of the market.

Selection: Pearl Eye at 4/1 (BoyleSports). The numbers are clear, the trainer is flying locally, and the jockey is the best man round Ayr.

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksPearl Eye โ€” 4:15 Ladbrokes Handicap Stakes (Ayr)
Odds: 4/1 โ€” BoyleSports (others: 7/2 LiveScore Bet)

Pearl Eye tops the speed figures in this race on 83, a clear margin above the odds-on favourite Empirical. Jim Goldie wins consistently at Ayr, Paul Mulrennan is the course’s most reliable jockey, and the six-year-old arrives fresh off a win, proven on today’s trip and going. Empirical at 4/6 is a false favourite on these figures. This is the bet of the day.
