Ballinrobe, Monday 10 August 2026: Tips and Best Bets

Ballinrobe stages a seven-race card on good ground, and while this is no Ebor Festival, there are angles worth exploiting. The course rewards horses that handle a flat, galloping track, and the going stats for Noel C Kelly (A/E of 2.44 here) and Danny Gilligan (A/E of 1.11) are the kind of numbers that make you sit up. Three races are featured below, with a clear NAP emerging from the 5:26.

7:27 Burleigh Accountancy Handicap Hurdle (3m2f)

Selection: Dorans Law Each-Way at 11/2 (Boyle Sports, Betfred)

In a race where six of the eight runners are winless across their last five starts, Dorans Law stands out for the right reasons. He finished second last time out, which makes him the most recently encouraged horse in the field on a form basis, and he rates second on the figures available. Trainer P J Rothwell has two winners from 23 runners over the past fortnight, which is a modest strike rate but far from cold. The 156lb burden is not ideal at this trip, but at a track where the galloping nature suits a stayer who keeps finding, Dorans Law has the profile to hit the frame at minimum.

Killowen House at 3/1 is the obvious market leader, and the win in his last five starts makes him hard to dismiss. But the price feels too short given that he is also carrying 161lb over this distance and his trainer has just one winner from 15 in the past fortnight. Dorans Law at almost twice the price makes more appeal at the each-way terms on offer.

5:26 C.J. Sheeran Ltd 3-Y-O Maiden Hurdle (2mยฝf, 13 runners)

Selection: Nicky Larson at 10/3 (Boyle Sports, Betfred)

Three-year-old maiden hurdles with 13 runners are notoriously tricky to crack, but the form angle here is clear. Nicky Larson finished third on his hurdling debut, which makes him one of the more exposed horses in the field in terms of showing ability. Trainer Paul Nolan has been quiet over the past fortnight, but this is the type of horse he produces fit and ready. Sean Flanagan takes the ride, and the combination of a course that Danny Gilligan (1.11 A/E) thrives on and the fact that this horse already knows the job makes Nicky Larson the standout at the price.

Nod Of Approval is unraced over hurdles and the Harrington yard (15% course winners, A/E of 0.86) could spring a surprise, while Minella Buoy with John J Nallen in the saddle connection is interesting given Nallen’s 20% course strike rate. But Nicky Larson’s hurdling experience gives him a measurable edge in what looks an open heat, and 10/3 is a workable price in a 13-runner maiden.

This is today’s NAP. See the full reasoning below.

5:57 Bank Of Ireland Brendan Maloney Memorial Maiden Hurdle (2mยฝf, 16 runners)

Selection: Texas Red Each-Way at 4/1 (Boyle Sports, LiveScore Bet)

Sixteen runners in a maiden hurdle means the each-way market is live, and Texas Red has the form to be competitive at this trip and going combination. He has run five times, shows varied form but has been placed, and trainer P J Rothwell’s yard has two winners from 23 runners in the past 14 days, suggesting the horses are ticking over. At 4/1 in a big field, the each-way return at 1/5 the odds for three places has genuine value.

Boo Radley carries the Mullins banner, and that is never irrelevant. The yard has had 18 winners from 65 runners in the last 14 days, which is an extraordinary recent strike rate. Sean Cleary-Farrell claims seven pounds, and the horse has shown enough (finishing in the top half of fields) to suggest he is not without ability. However, the 7/1 price in a competitive 16-runner field rather reflects the uncertainty, and Texas Red at 4/1 with a cleaner form profile looks the sharper punt on the each-way angle.

Crystal Mariner at 7/1 is a complete unknown on a limited profile and Be My Fortune with Jack Kennedy up (17% course wins, A/E of 0.96) has some appeal, but Kennedy’s A/E figure suggests the wins are spread thinly and the 7/1 on offer does not represent the value you need to go chasing.

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksNicky Larson โ€” C.J. Sheeran Ltd 3-Y-O Maiden Hurdle (5:26, Ballinrobe)
Odds: 10/3 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 10/3 Betfred, 3/1 LiveScore Bet)

In a 13-runner maiden where the majority are either unraced over hurdles or have shown very little, Nicky Larson’s third on debut gives him a concrete leg up on the field. Paul Nolan is a trainer who delivers horses ready to run, and Sean Flanagan is a reliable pilot in these conditions. Good ground at Ballinrobe suits a horse already comfortable jumping, and 10/3 is a price that reflects genuine market respect without being restrictive.
