Bath Tips: Tuesday 12 May 2026

A six-race card at Bath on good to firm ground. The track’s distinct camber and uphill finish at the five-furlong end suits horses who travel well and stay the trip, rather than those who need a gallop to warm into it. The going is genuine fast ground today, so anything with a soft-ground caveat can be swerved. Three races stand out for value, and one of them has a selection that looks significantly overpriced.

2:20 — RJ King & Sons EBF Restricted Novice Stakes (5f)

Selection: Seed Ya Later (7/4 Boyle Sports, Betfred, LiveScore Bet)

Jack Channon’s yard is running at 4/20 in the last fortnight, which is a healthy 20% strike rate, and Seed Ya Later arrives here having already won at this track and then followed up at Musselburgh over five furlongs on good ground. Two wins from two since her debut, progressive, course proven, and goes on the going. The market agrees at 7/4 but this is a deserved favouritism, not a short-priced proposition to be swerved.

Jolly Good Fellows won here last week and the form looks solid, but the Newland and Insole yard is only hitting at 2/24 in the past fortnight. Seed Ya Later beat this filly on debut and has only improved since. At similar prices, the horse heading into the race with the better recent trajectory gets the vote.

2:50 — Bath Mind Charity Confined Handicap (5½f)

Selection: Hidden Verse Each-Way (9/2 Boyle Sports, 9/2 Betfred)

This “no win since 2025” confined handicap has a few live claims, but Hidden Verse stands out on course form and current trajectory. He won twice last season, one of those victories coming here at Bath, and when he reappeared at this very track last month he was a close sixth, giving the impression he needed the run. The subsequent poor effort at Pontefract can be put in the bin, as the track profile there is nothing like Bath and it was his first visit.

Grace Harris’s The Feminine Urge also has course form and is strongly fancied at 9/4, but the cheekpieces have failed to spark her twice before and the price is short enough to be vulnerable if she underperforms again. At 9/2, Hidden Verse gets the each-way vote in an eight-runner handicap where the place terms are three places at 1/5. Richard Newland and Jamie Insole may only be striking at 2/24 lately, but the angle here is course form and handicap mark, not stable form alone.

Danger Alert is also worth a mention at 7/1. On a career-low mark, George Baker’s yard is running at 3/13 in the past fortnight, and the reapplied cheekpieces produced a respectable fourth at Windsor on Monday. He has questions to answer about whether he can win again, but the each-way terms are generous enough to make him a saver at the price.

3:20 — Best Cleaning Group Maiden Stakes (5½f)

Selection: Queen Sana (Evens Boyle Sports, 11/10 Betfred, Evens LiveScore Bet)

Ollie Sangster’s filly heads into this small five-runner maiden with the sharpest recent form in the race. She was only collared late on in a Windsor five-furlong handicap last week, and dropping back into a maiden after that run is a favourable switch. Competitive against handicappers, she should have too much for this field if she reproduces that level.

Noble Vow has ability but is 0-6 and has pulled hard in both starts this season. The talent is clearly there for Richard Hannon’s colt, but until he learns to settle he will keep finding ways to disappoint. In The City from Warren Greatrex has been consistent but is being asked to give away weight to younger, potentially more forward horses, and the yard is only at 2/17 recently. Queen Sana at evens in a five-runner maiden represents the most straightforward case on the card.
