Bath, Wednesday 1 July 2026: Tips and Analysis
Firm ground at Bath on a partly cloudy July afternoon. The track’s undulations and that notorious camber suit horses who travel well and handle fast conditions, and today’s card rewards those who study trainer form and course records carefully. David Egan’s 22% strike rate at this course (A/E of 1.30) makes him a jockey to follow whenever he’s booked here, and he rides in two of the three featured races. Tom Dascombe’s yard also has solid Bath numbers, so Parkers Light is worth keeping an eye on in the market at least.
Three races to get stuck into below. Let’s go through them.
6:33 โ British EBF Restricted Novice Stakes (5ยฝf, Firm)
Selection: Angel Ang, 15/8 LiveScore Bet
Short-ish price for a novice, yes, but the form angle is clear enough. Angel Ang won on debut and did it decisively, pulling clear in a 6f novice and looking every inch a horse that knew his job from the first furlong. He carries a penalty here, but that penalty is baked into the 2/1 (or 15/8 at LiveScore). In fields where half the runners are debutants with question marks over them, a horse who has already shown he can win under pressure is worth taking at this price.
Pat Cosgrave rides, and his 16% at Bath (A/E 0.93) is solid enough. David Evans has only one winner in the last 14 days from 17 runners, which is a mild flag, but the horse’s own ability counts for more here than trainer form at this stage of the season.
Empire Rising at 5/1 is the main danger. David Egan takes the ride, which is always a signal, and a fourth at Salisbury last time showed definite improvement. The wide draw is the issue, and the step up to firmer ground is a mild unknown. Theheatison at 4/1 has Silvestre De Sousa aboard and ran respectably twice, but two fifths don’t scream a winner waiting to happen.
Angel Ang is the call. The debut form is the strongest in the race, and a penalty doesn’t change that.
8:18 โ MJ Church Handicap (1m, Firm)
Selection: Swiped, 4/7 Boyle Sports / Betfred
Odds-on favourites are usually to be opposed, not backed, but Swiped has earned this position. He won here last time by two and a quarter lengths, the trip suited, the drop in class suited, and he still looks to be running off a mark that doesn’t fully reflect his ability. First-time blinkers today, which suggests Ralph Beckett wants sharper focus, and the trainer has been busy and productive recently (9 from 60 in the last 14 days is a yard that is operating at pace).
This is only a seven-runner field and the rest of the card doesn’t offer a strong alternative. Post Rider has run respectably, arriving here third at Goodwood last time, and 5/1 would be tempting for each-way purposes in a bigger field. But seven runners means only two place spots, and at that price the win-only angle on Swiped makes more sense.
The field around him is weak. Nakaaha was beaten six lengths at Newbury eight days ago, Sant Alessio has been ridden poorly this term, and Ebn Sabt at 100/1 tells its own story. Swiped wins again.
5:58 โ Bath And Wiltshire Air Ambulance Handicap (5ยฝf, Firm)
Selection: Rosieisme Darling, 6/4 Boyle Sports / Betfred
Five runners, firm ground, and the most consistent horse in the race comes in at 6/4. Rosieisme Darling has finished in the first four in five of her last six starts across 5f and 6f, handles any ground, and is well weighted today. The form line includes placings off a slightly higher mark than the one she runs off here, which is a straightforward positive.
Reality Queen is the danger at 11/8 (favourite at the top of the market). The Alistair Rawlinson booking is interesting, and he carries a strong Bath strike rate (16%, A/E 1.24). The honest concern, though, is the comment that she ideally wants some ease in the ground, and today’s conditions are as firm as it gets. That caveat is real, and at a shorter price than Rosieisme Darling, the value tips toward our selection.
Lavender Bloom is interesting as a first-time handicapper with David Egan, but three unplaced runs and the trip drop are genuine questions. Rogue Rebellion was well beaten here last time and needs to reverse recent form sharply.
Rosieisme Darling is consistent, well handicapped, and handles this surface without reservation. She’s the pick.
Today’s NAP
Odds: 4/7 โ Boyle Sports (others: 4/7 Betfred, 8/13 LiveScore Bet)
Swiped won this course and trip last time by two and a quarter lengths and still looks ahead of the assessor. Ralph Beckett’s yard has been firing (9 winners from 60 runners over the last 14 days), first-time blinkers sharpen the profile further, and the opposition in this seven-runner field is notably weak. Odds-on favourites are not usually the play, but when the form is this straightforward and the trainer is in this kind of form, you back the horse and collect.
