Beverley, Wednesday 27 May 2026 — Tips & Preview

Good to firm ground on the East Yorkshire coast suits horses with a bit of zip, and the card at Beverley today throws up some genuinely interesting angles across three featured races. Cieren Fallon’s 29% strike rate here is the standout jockey stat, while James Owen’s 35% course win rate is a number you simply cannot ignore. The handicap cavalry charge at 3:15 is the race of the day, and there’s a novice event that hinges heavily on market moves from a couple of well-bred debutants.

2:45 — Tigers Trust Restricted Novice Stakes (7½f)

Eight two-year-olds, a mix of debutants and lightly raced types, on good to firm ground over seven-and-a-half furlongs. The trip is the key filter here: pedigrees that scream stamina will already have an edge.

Sydney Carton Each-Way is the angle at 10/3 (Boyle Sports). James Owen returns to a track where he wins 35% of the time, and this Ulysses colt is closely related to Land Of Oz, a winner over a mile-and-three-quarters to over two miles. The step up to seven-and-a-half furlongs is precisely what his breeding is built for, and Owen’s 14-day stats (5/52 overall) are respectable for a smaller yard. The hood goes on for debut, which suggests the yard knows this horse needs settling. Cieren Fallon is in the saddle, and his 29% Beverley win rate at an A/E of 1.45 is the best on the entire card today. That combination alone puts this horse at the top of the shortlist.

Dei Gratia Regina at 5/2 (Boyle Sports/Betfred) is the each-way alternative. Two runs in, improving each time, and a dam who won over seven furlongs and a mile confirms the trip is right. The filly has placed form to her name already and the step up in distance from six furlongs at Nottingham last time looks spot on. She may end up favourite by post time, but at current prices she represents solid each-way value in a three-place market.

Out Of This World (10/3) on debut for James Tate is one to watch in the ring. Tate debutants frequently drift then get backed back in, and the market will be telling here. Keep an eye on the boards before committing.

3:15 — Ward Homes Yorkshire 10th Anniversary Handicap (7½f, 13 runners)

Thirteen runners, four places, good to firm ground. This is a wide-open handicap and the each-way market is wide open with it.

Coolree at 4/1 (Boyle Sports/Betfred) is the one to be on. Sam England’s yard has gone 5/19 over the last 14 days, a phenomenal recent strike rate, and this horse has won here twice already this month. His Beverley record now reads 1-1-2-3-1-1. Yes, those wins came over the extended mile rather than seven-and-a-half furlongs, but the key detail from his last win is that he grabbed control a furlong out and asserted. A horse that travels with that kind of authority in a handicap can adapt to a slightly shorter trip, especially on a track he clearly loves. He has to be the one to beat.

Straight A Each-Way at 11/2 (Boyle Sports/Betfred) is the value each-way play. Beaten a nose at Redcar last time, solid on the AW all winter, and horses that run that kind of consistent race without winning tend to get overlooked in the market. Michael Appleby’s yard is quiet right now at 0/20 in the last fortnight, but this horse’s form is doing the talking regardless of trainer stats.

Harswell Ruby Each-Way at 15/2 (Boyle Sports/Betfred) completes the shortlist. Runner-up twice over this course and distance last season, won at Thirsk in April, and was short-headed for third there eleven days ago. Kevin Stott rides, and his 17% Beverley win rate at an A/E of 1.05 means he pays his way here. She’s on a fair mark and four places on offer means she looks a solid each-way proposition.

3:45 — Dr Eddie Moll Handicap (1m2f, 7 runners)

The fascinating angle here is Hibernate under Cieren Fallon. Two wins on the bounce, a hat-trick bid, going conditions that suit (he won at Yarmouth on good to firm and at Bath on firm), and the best jockey at this track in the saddle. He goes off at 7/4 (Boyle Sports/Betfred) having been raised 6lb and stepped up in grade, which is the legitimate concern, but Ed Dunlop has gone 5/17 in the last 14 days, a yard that is absolutely firing at the moment.

Hibernate is the call. Small field, horse in form, course specialist jockey, trainer flying. The 6lb rise is real but so is the confidence behind this yard right now.

Dawn Of Liberation at 9/2 (Boyle Sports) is the each-way alternative for those wanting longer odds. He won over this course and distance last May, came back to form with a encouraging fifth of twelve at Ripon last time out, and Ruth Carr tends to campaign her horses patiently. He could outrun his price each way with two places paying at a quarter the odds.

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksCoolree — Ward Homes Yorkshire 10th Anniversary Handicap (3:15, Beverley)
Odds: 4/1 — Boyle Sports (others: 4/1 Betfred)

Two wins at Beverley already this month, a course record of 1-1-2-3-1-1, and Sam England’s yard has gone 5/19 in the last 14 days. Coolree has grabbed control in the closing stages in each of his recent wins, showing a will to win that is rare in a handicapper at this level. Good to firm ground is exactly what he wants, he knows the track intimately, and 4/1 in a 13-runner handicap is a price that reflects confidence rather than complacency. P.J. McDonald rides and he handles Beverley well. This is the bet of the day.
