Beverley, Friday 3 July 2026: Tips and Analysis

A six-race card at Beverley on good to firm ground, and there is plenty to work with across three races worth focusing on. The straight five-furlong track here rewards front-runners and horses that break quickly, which shapes the approach in both sprint contests. With the British Grand Prix at Silverstone getting underway tomorrow, racing punters need somewhere to park their money tonight, and Beverley delivers some genuine angles.

6:00 โ€” Your Weekend Starts Here Apprentice Handicap (1m4f)

Small field, five runners, but the form angle here is as clear as it gets. Bruce Banner (5/4 Boyle Sports) finished second at this very track just ten days ago, beaten half a length off a mark one pound higher than today. The comment from that run is crucial: his passage was blocked at the key moment. He handles 12 to 16 furlongs on a sound surface, steps out in a first-time visor, and drops back to the same course and conditions where he was desperately unlucky. Trainer Rebecca Menzies has had two winners from 19 runners in the past 14 days, so the yard is ticking over.

Sisterandbrother is the danger. The drop back to 12 furlongs from a recent 10-furlong run is a clear positive, and he arrives off the same mark with first-time cheekpieces. But the market has Bruce Banner as a short-priced favourite for a reason, and the unlucky interference angle is compelling enough to side with him getting off the mark.

Selection: Bruce Banner, 5/4 Boyle Sports

6:30 โ€” IRE-Incentive Fillies’ Novice Stakes (5f)

Two debutantes dominate the market and the analysis. Tropical Crown (9/4 Boyle Sports) is a 100,000 pound breeze-up purchase by Perfect Power, a sire who specialises in producing sharp, precocious two-year-olds suited to this kind of early-season sprint. Trainer K R Burke has won this race twice in the last five runnings, so he knows exactly how to place a filly for this contest. Seven winners from 52 runners in the past 14 days suggests the yard is in fine form.

Nightbloom by Invincible Spirit, a 400,000 euro purchase, is the one most will oppose Tropical Crown with. The pedigree is exceptional and she merits serious respect on debut. But the Burke angle, the course record in this specific race, and the breeze-up background that suggests this filly has already shown enough behind closed doors, tilts the balance.

Viking Barbie has placed form and handles the conditions, but she has yet to win and faces two well-bred debutantes who may simply be better horses.

Selection: Tropical Crown, 9/4 Boyle Sports

7:02 โ€” Belazu Handicap (5f)

I’m Next (13/8 Boyle Sports) is the obvious form pick. Won a handicap at Redcar 13 days ago, making all and winning by one and a quarter lengths. Tim Easterby’s horses have to be respected at Beverley in five-furlong handicaps and this horse has posted the form figure that puts him clear on recent evidence. Good to firm ground suits him and David Allan knows the horse.

The slight concern is the raised mark after that Redcar victory. Handicappers do not hang about, and he is now asking to win off a higher rating. Tiva at 8/1 is the value play if you want an alternative. She finished second at Nottingham 13 days ago, beaten just one and a quarter lengths off a mark one pound higher than today, and she now arrives fitted with first-time tongue-tie and cheekpieces. David O’Meara sends out 15% winners at this track and the yard has had seven winners from 55 runners in the past fortnight. Operating only one pound above her last winning mark, the headgear switch could be the catalyst.

Tiva Each-Way at 8/1 is the value selection in what is a competitive nine-runner handicap. I’m Next wins if the handicapper has not caught up with him, but Tiva represents the better each-way return at the price.

Selection: Tiva, 8/1 Boyle Sports (each-way)

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksBruce Banner โ€” Your Weekend Starts Here Apprentice Handicap (6:00, Beverley)
Odds: 5/4 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 6/5 Betfred, 6/5 LiveScore Bet)

He was denied a clear run at the critical moment when beaten half a length here just ten days ago, racing off a mark one pound higher than today. Same course, same conditions, first-time visor added, and a jockey booking that keeps the weight down. In a five-runner field, there is nowhere to hide from the form, and this horse’s form points straight at the line.
