Beverley is one of those tracks where course form and horse-for-course trainers really matter. The tight, undulating five furlongs puts a premium on early pace and horses that handle a stiff finish, while the middle distances reward genuine stayers. Going is Good To Firm across the card today, so anything needing cut in the ground can be crossed off early. William Haggas lands winners here at a 28% clip, and Tom Marquand goes at 26%. Both are involved in the opener, which tells you something. Keep an eye on Cieren Fallon too, another 26% performer at this track with a solid A/E of 1.22.

2:15 — Racing TV Club Day EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes (5f, Good To Firm)

Six runners, two of them dominated by yards who know Beverley well. The market has split almost cleanly between two at 11/8 and one at 7/2, which makes this easier to read than most maiden novice contests.

Not My Type is the selection. William Haggas sends her here after a winning debut, and the Haggas operation at Beverley is the gold standard on this track: 28% winners and an A/E just above break-even. Tom Marquand takes the ride, and his own Beverley numbers are equally sharp at 26%. A filly who won on debut in the hands of this jockey-trainer combination, on going she presumably handled first time out, is exactly the kind of banker that gets underestimated at 11/8 because punters want value elsewhere. Take the 11/8 with Boyle Sports or Betfred and move on.

Empress Princess is the main market danger at 7/2. James Tate has gone 3/11 in the past fortnight and Clifford Lee is a 20% Beverley performer, so there is ability here. But she is unraced and up against a winner, which tilts things firmly to Not My Type.

3:45 — Connexin Super Fast Sprint Handicap Stakes (5f, Good To Firm)

Twelve runners over the minimum trip on Good To Firm ground, a genuine sprint handicap with 4 places paid. This is a race where each-way betting makes obvious sense, and finding the right spot in the market is the game.

American Bay Each-Way at 3/1 with Boyle Sports or Betfred catches the eye on figures alone. A weight-adjusted rating of 83 marks him out as the standout in a field where most rivals are clustered well below that mark. He has been placed in this grade — second three starts back — and Jason Hart is a jockey who knows how to ride a hard-luck story over five furlongs. Paul Midgley’s yard has gone 0/16 in the past fortnight, which is the obvious negative, and this horse has not won in six starts. But at 3/1 in a 12-runner sprint with four places paid, the each-way return on the form pick is worth taking.

Ingleby Archie at 7/1 is the danger. Won three starts back, placed two starts back, has the trip and going experience, and draws into stall 12 which at Beverley over five furlongs is not the worst berth once they level out. Jack Garritty keeps the ride and Adrian Nicholls has sent him here in form. He sits comfortably as the each-way alternative if you want a bigger price.

Castan at 9/1 is fresh enough after just 12 days and has the experience, but the recent nines and sixes from his form string are hard to dismiss.

4:15 — Middle Distance Handicap Stakes (1m4f, Good To Firm)

Six runners over a mile and four furlongs, and the form of Mr Moonshine reads cleanly in this company. Oisin Orr takes the ride, a 19% Beverley performer, and Richard and Peter Fahey have a 18% course strike rate here with a very healthy A/E of 1.34. Their yard is the sharpest outfit at this track by that metric. A rating of 77 puts him top of the figures, he has finished third and second in his last two starts, and the distance and going conditions hold no fears. He gets in on the lightest weight in the field at 130lbs. Freely available at 9/4 with Boyle Sports and Betfred, and 2/1 with LiveScore Bet.

Wardlaw for Sir Mark Prescott is the obvious alternative. Three placings in four starts, the trip is confirmed, and Prescott always targets these small-field handicaps. But 48 days off the track for a three-year-old still developing his physique is a genuine question, and Luke Morris has to shoulder top weight alongside Grey Fable at 133lbs. The Fahey runner on lighter weight and in better recent form is preferred.

Grey Fable at 7/2 has course ability and Karl Thornton has gone 1/2 in the past fortnight, so he is worth a mention in a six-runner race. But the form string has a run of poor numbers and Jason Hart has seen better days on him.
