Carlisle, Friday 29 May 2026: Tips and Best Bets

Good ground at Carlisle today with mostly cloudy skies keeping conditions consistent. Seven races on the card and there are three that merit serious attention. With the Epsom Derby just over a week away, all eyes will be on the two-year-olds for clues about next season’s Classic picture, and today’s novice stakes at 2:40 has a couple of lively contenders worth dissecting. Hugo Palmer runs well here (26% wins, A/E 1.31), K R Burke knows the track (20%, A/E 1.12), and Faye McManoman is a jockey to follow at this course with an 18% strike rate and an A/E of 1.36. Those angles will matter today.

2:10 Andersons Apprentice Handicap (1m1f, Good)

Selection: Krissy (4/7 Boyle Sports / Betfred)

Yes, she is short. But this price reflects reality rather than sentiment. Jim Goldie’s five-year-old mare has been in exceptional form this spring, winning twice over this exact trip at Musselburgh on good ground. She did it easily last Thursday and carries a 5lb penalty here, yet the spotlight analysis flags her as 6lb well-in at the weights. She is a front-runner who has also run well away from her favoured track, and the step up to Carlisle is no barrier.

Goldie is running at a fine 8/44 clip over the last 14 days, meaning the yard is firing. Rhys Elliott claims 3lb, which eats into the penalty. The opposition is thin at the business end. Lever Up and Condotti both have possibilities on flat-track running, but neither can match Krissy for current form.

At 4/7 this is a banker rather than a value pick, but she goes into the NAP on reliability alone. Back her and move on.

2:40 Grandad Bill Whinnow EBF Novice Stakes (5f, Good)

Selection: May Bee In Profit (3/1 Boyle Sports / Betfred / LiveScore Bet)

Tim Easterby sends two here and it is the market choice Call Nicki that gets the headlines, but May Bee In Profit at 3/1 offers the smarter angle. This filly has been building steadily through her three-race career. A close second at Beverley on her second start showed she handles give in the ground, and her Windsor third over 6f last time showed she kept finding when the trip stretched. The key factor: the form book hints she wanted this return to 5f, and today she gets it on good ground at a speed-friendly track.

The Easterby yard is operating at 12/119 which is workmanlike but not electric, yet they have brought this filly along with a clear plan and today looks the target. Sean Kirrane’s claim is a bonus. Call Nicki is 6/4 on the strength of a solid third at Thirsk but May Bee In Profit’s Beverley second is arguably stronger form, and at twice the price she is the bet.

Tamam Star is entitled to respect at 6/4 if leaving his Thirsk run behind, but Burke’s horse is a colt who arguably finds this company tighter than expected. May Bee In Profit is the one.

3:10 Andersons Quality For The Home Handicap (5f, Good)

Selection: Dandy Dinmont (4/1 Boyle Sports / Betfred)

Nigel Tinkler sends this seven-year-old back out just days after winning at Beverley over this identical trip on good to firm ground. He rises only 2lb for that success, which is a gift from the assessor. The form is fresh, the conditions are similar, and Faye McManoman takes the ride.

McManoman’s Carlisle record deserves a second look: 18% winners here with an A/E of 1.36. That tells you she outperforms expectations at this track specifically. Pair that with a horse who literally just won over course and distance conditions, and 4/1 makes strong appeal in a 10-runner field.

Get Up Everybody at 7/2 is the obvious danger. He has been knocking on the door with a third at Pontefract and a tight fourth at Redcar, and the first-time cheekpieces could unlock improvement. But he remains 0-11 and finding excuses for horses who keep finishing second and third eventually runs dry. Dandy Dinmont already found the winning post recently. He is the call.

  • Dandy Dinmont: 4/1 Boyle Sports, recent Beverley winner, only 2lb higher, McManoman booking a major plus at Carlisle
  • Get Up Everybody: 7/2 if the cheekpieces unlock improvement, each-way lurk
  • Lindoro: 5/1 an interesting handicap debutant stepping back to 5f, not without each-way claims on pedigree alone

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksKrissy โ€” Andersons Apprentice Handicap (2:10, Carlisle)
Odds: 4/7 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 4/7 Betfred, 4/7 LiveScore Bet)

Two wins over this exact trip at Musselburgh this spring, the most recent a straightforward success last Thursday. She carries a 5lb penalty but is still flagged 6lb well-in at the weights, and Elliott’s 3lb claim softens the blow further. Jim Goldie’s yard is in form at 8/44 over the last two weeks, and Krissy has shown she handles tracks beyond her favoured Musselburgh. Short price, yes. Wrong price, no.
