Carlisle, Monday 15 June 2026: Tips and Best Bets

Carlisle stages a seven-race card on ground that’s come up Good To Soft following weekend showers, and that watered-down surface suits horses with a bit of class rather than pure speed merchants. Three races stand out for punters looking for value, and K R Burke’s yard dominates the course stats with a 19% strike rate from 375 runners here. When Burke’s string is firing, you pay attention.

1:40 โ€” Racing TV Restricted Maiden Stakes (6f, Good To Soft)

Selection: Call Nicki (10/11, Boyle Sports)

This is a Band D maiden with a thin field of debutants and lightly raced juveniles, and Call Nicki heads the market at near-evens for a reason. Tim Easterby’s filly has already posted form figures of 432, which means she has raced three times, finished in the frame on every occasion, and is dropping into a race that looks well within her compass. The 6f trip on Good To Soft at Carlisle is a fair test, and David Allan takes the ride. Easterby’s yard has been ticking over at 12 winners from 119 runners over the past 14 days, steady rather than spectacular, but Allan knows the track.

The main market threat is Bluestone Lady for K R Burke, who carries the trainer’s exceptional Carlisle record of 19% wins and an A/E of 1.11. Burke sent out seven winners from 46 runners in the past fortnight and William Pyle takes the ride. Her form of 8626 shows some placed efforts in competitive company, and at 16/1 she looks a reasonable each-way alternative if you want to oppose the jolly.

Call Nicki looks the safest bet at odds-on given her consistent placed form. Back to win only at 10/11.

3:20 โ€” racingtv.com Handicap (1m6f, Good To Soft)

Selection: Banderas Each-Way (5/2, Boyle Sports)

Fourteen runners over a mile and six furlongs on soft-ish ground, and Sam England’s Banderas is the one that catches the eye at the top of the market. England holds a 17% win rate at Carlisle with an A/E of 1.14, which means his runners punch at or above their weight at this track. That is the kind of trainer-course combination you go looking for when a horse has any kind of case at all on form.

Banderas has form figures of 61/51 coming into this. The key is that win in the recent sequence, which suggests the gelding is capable on a good day. Oisin Orr takes the ride, a quality booking at this level, and the 1m6f distance over Good To Soft ground suits a horse who clearly stays well. At 5/2 in a 14-runner handicap with four places paid, the each-way terms make this straightforward.

So Alex at 9/2 for Richard Newland represents the main danger. Form of 2119-2 shows a winner in the string and a recent second on return, so the yard has him fit. Circuit Breaker at 3/1 for the O’Neill yard is a live contender too, though their Carlisle A/E of 0.69 suggests the course doesn’t always play to their strengths.

Banderas each-way at 5/2 with four places at 1/5 odds. Sam England knows this track, and the booking of Orr adds confidence.

4:23 โ€” Racing TV Fillies’ Handicap (7f, Good To Soft)

Selection: Velvet Rhythm (9/2, Boyle Sports)

This is the race of the day at Carlisle. Ten fillies over seven furlongs on a surface that rewards class and stamina, and there are at least three realistic winners in here.

Velvet Rhythm appeals most. Charlie Johnston’s three-year-old has form figures of 43-114, which tells the full story: she was finding her feet early on, then rattled off back-to-back wins. This is her return from a break, and Johnston has sent out five winners from 45 runners in the past 14 days. The yard holds a 16% Carlisle strike rate and Rowan Scott takes the ride. At 9/2, a filly with genuine winning form who is coming back to a track and distance that should suit looks underestimated by the market.

Sandy Craic for David O’Meara and Mark Winn at 4/1 is the obvious rival. Winn has a 20% course win rate at Carlisle with an A/E of 1.61, the best jockey figure on this card by some distance, and O’Meara’s yard is running at 8 wins from 52 over the past fortnight. Form of 43255 is consistent without being flashy, but the Winn booking on this track is always significant. If you want to hedge, Sandy Craic each-way at 4/1 is not a bad play.

Amelia’s Joy at 8/1 has form of 217145 and is a genuine each-way contender for Michael Herrington, whose yard is ticking over. She won not long ago and is not out of it at a fair price.

Velvet Rhythm to win at 9/2 is the call. Johnston’s fillies often improve on a return to form, and back-to-back wins before this break suggest she has the ability to win at this level again.

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksVelvet Rhythm โ€” Racing TV Fillies’ Handicap (4:23, Carlisle)
Odds: 9/2 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 9/2 Betfred, 4/1 LiveScore Bet)

Back-to-back wins before this layoff mark Velvet Rhythm out as the classiest filly in this field. Charlie Johnston fires at 16% at Carlisle and the yard has been in good nick over the past fortnight. Good To Soft over seven furlongs is exactly the test she needs, and at 9/2 she is not the short price her recent form deserves. Rowan Scott knows the track and this looks a well-timed return.
