The worry, as always, is that this horse has a habit of collecting places rather than wins. The cheekpieces say connections think they have found the key.

Won here last time, and won it convincingly. Hostility tracked the pace and hit the front without the jockey having to dig deep, all while carrying 3lb less than today. The rise is manageable for a horse rated 83, top of this field on figures. David O’Meara’s yard has been busy and productive lately, 6 winners from 53 runners in the last fortnight, and they know how to place a horse. The gelding handles any ground and stays up to nine furlongs comfortably, so today’s trip is well within his range.

The only legitimate question is whether the rise in the weights catches him out at a course where the form often sticks. It probably does not. Horses who win like he did here last time, smooth, unhurried, a bit in hand, tend to confirm the form when they come back to the same track. Joanna Mason keeps the ride and she rode that win with good tactical sense.

Danger: Krissy is genuinely dangerous if she gets an uncontested lead from stall three. Jim Goldie’s mare has three wins in six starts and every one of them came when she was allowed to dictate. If she bowls along in front unchallenged, the race could be half over before it starts. Watch the early pace carefully. Bellasio at 9/2 is also worth noting: beaten half a length here last time, and Grant Tuer posts a 15% course strike rate even though the yard is quiet right now.

Alpine Sierra at 11/8 is the obvious market rival and won a hat-trick here before his sequence ended, but the comment notes that faster ground undid him last time and conditions today are similar. That is a genuine concern, not a trivial one. Rated 71 versus Covert Legend’s 72, there is precious little between them on figures, but the tongue-tie angle and the Irish form give Covert Legend an edge in terms of unexploited potential.

Valley Of Flowers at 3/1 is top-rated at 78 and has the figures to win this, but her attitude under pressure is flagged as a doubt and five starts without a win at this level suggests she finds a reason to finish second rather than first.
