Good going at Carlisle plays into the hands of horses with decent cruising speed, and the three races with enough shape to warrant a recommendation are spread across the afternoon. Kaiya Fraser is worth tracking across the card, with a strike rate at this track that comfortably outperforms expectation.

The market has her right, but 11/8 is a fair clip given Beckett’s Carlisle record and the fact this field contains two runners from yards that have managed zero wins between them in the last 14 days.

Bella Angelina is the main threat at 7/4, and Harry Charlton has had one winner in the last fortnight. Wid gets the nod on trainer form and the step up in trip suiting her profile better.

Andrew Balding sits at 27% at Carlisle with a positive A/E of 1.04, the only trainer in the featured course stats to show a profit to level stakes. That matters in a maiden where form lines are thin. Pequenita has a single run to her name, a fourth, but Paul Mulrennan takes the ride and Balding’s yard has been firing at 10 winners from 58 runners in the last fortnight. That is not a quiet operation right now.

Mohaymenah goes off favourite at 6/4 and the form of 42 is solid enough, and Kaiya Fraser’s course A/E of 1.25 gives her claims. But at near half the price of Pequenita with a trainer firing on all cylinders and a positive course record, Pequenita at 11/4 carries genuine appeal in a five-runner maiden.

This is the value play of the afternoon. Bleep Test was placed in three of her four starts before a dip to unplaced 12 days ago, including two seconds earlier in her career. The key detail is that the rating is described as sitting well clear of her current handicap mark, meaning she is competing off a lenient weight. Tim Easterby’s yard has had 15 winners from 104 runners in the last 14 days, which is a yard in decent nick. At 16/1 in a race where the market is dominated by Cotai Belle at 2/1 and Creative Queen at 3/1, there is a strong each-way case with three places paid at 1/5.

Cotai Belle is the clear form pick on ratings, two consecutive seconds in good company making her the logical favourite, but 2/1 is a short price in an eight-runner handicap where she has yet to win in her last five starts. Dandy Magic at 10/3 is interesting given a rating well clear of her mark, but she ran just three days ago and that quick turnaround is a red flag. Bleep Test at 16/1, with an Easterby yard ticking over nicely and a mark below her best form, is the angle here.
