Three runners, which makes this almost a match. The market tells most of the story but there is a selection to make.

That is not a yard firing blanks at this track. Quisana’s form of 425 shows a horse finding her way, placed twice from three runs, and a step up to a mile suits types who have been hitting the frame without quite seeing out shorter trips. If you want to cover both, they are the same price. My lean is to Punchbowl Flyer on the back of back-to-back wins over this course and distance.

Dragon God at 3/1 (BoyleSports) or 11/4 (Betfred) is the value alternative. Second last time out is his best run in the current sequence and Tony Carroll, while modest in strike rate over the last 14 days, places horses to run their race. The 11/4 at Betfred is worth noting if you want to fill the frame.

Nine runners for a five-furlong juvenile novice, and this one is more competitive than it looks on paper.

Amber Ocean at 7/4 (BoyleSports/Betfred) is the selection. Rossa Ryan rides and he posts a 21% strike rate at Chepstow with an A/E of 1.19, one of the strongest jockey-course combinations on the card today. That is not a coincidence figure. Jamie Osborne’s yard is 2/16 in the last fortnight. The 52 form for Blondie Larry shows a horse who ran into a placed position first time, then dropped back. The betting suggests connections have improved him since. This is a genuine market rival.

Percy Shaw Each-Way at 11/1 (BoyleSports) or 12/1 (Betfred) is worth a small each-way interest. Charles Hills sends runners here occasionally and his 2/22 recent record shows some spark. An 8 followed by a 4 is improvement heading in the right direction. At 12/1 with three places paid at 1/5 odds, the each-way terms make this excellent value for a place dart in a nine-runner field.
