Good to firm ground suits the speedier, sharper types, and with three decent races to pick apart, there are angles worth following. The course stats back a handful of trainers and riders who consistently outperform here, and those edges matter on a card like this.

2:45 — Trade Centre Group Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (5f, Good To Firm)

Soeur De Flash at 6/5 is the obvious market leader and Clive Cox’s yard is firing at 6/20 over the past fortnight. A form figure of 3 on debut suggests she ran green and learned plenty. Cox knows how to improve two-year-old fillies on fast ground and Rossa Ryan rides, a jockey who converts at 21% at Chepstow with an A/E of 1.19. That combination of in-form yard and course-savvy jockey makes the favourite hard to oppose in a small-field maiden.

The danger is Rogue Dakota at 6/1, also showing a debut second, and Archie Watson’s yard has solid Chepstow numbers at 20% wins. Watson has gone cold over the past fortnight though, 0/22, which tempers enthusiasm. Delighfully Hot (7/4) has shown consistency in placing but the 9/40 recent record for James Owen and the step back to five furlongs make her a lay rather than a bet.

3:15 — Bailey Family Investments / EBF Maiden Stakes (7f, Good To Firm)

Grove Street at 4/7 is the market jolly but Brian Meehan’s yard has managed just 1/9 in the past fortnight, hardly a yard firing on all cylinders. A single run showing a second-place finish means he’s entitled to go close, but at 4/7 you’re paying a premium for limited evidence.

Talamon at 4/1 (Boyle Sports, Betfred) catches the eye for George Boughey, who converts at a remarkable 26% at Chepstow with an A/E of 1.02, meaning punters roughly get fair value when backing his runners here. The yard is ticking along at 4/20 in the last 14 days and Billy Loughnane’s 19% Chepstow strike rate makes this a combination worth taking seriously. Talamon is a debutant from a stable that often has juveniles ready to run on first asking over seven furlongs on quick ground.

La Bassette at 6/1 for Cox and Rossa Ryan is the other live contender, and that yard combination is hard to dismiss after any race. But Boughey’s record at this course specifically is the stat that tilts the decision.

Von Trotter Each-Way at 5/2 (Boyle Sports, Betfred) is the selection here. The form reads 007621 and that recent sequence tells a story: runner-up two starts back, then a win last time out. He has the trip and going conditions ticked, and crucially he runs in the light weight of 128lbs from stall 3. Joanna Mason takes the ride, and her Chepstow A/E of 1.7 from a small sample is outstanding, well above any other jockey on the list. That combination of a horse in form, course-suited conditions, and an overachieving course pilot is the kind of convergence you hunt for in a seven-runner handicap.

Evie Ross (4/1 LiveScore Bet) gets the most glowing write-up from the handicapper’s perspective and Clive Cox’s recent form is strong. But 135lbs from stall 1 on a track where pace scenarios can be tricky gives pause. At 4/1 she is not obviously overpriced, but Von Trotter at 5/2 looks the better-value vehicle with the in-running weight edge.

Espona Bay (7/1) arrives on a six-race winning form sequence but Scott Dixon’s yard is patchy at 2/16 recently, and 15/2 elsewhere suggests the market has him assessed correctly. Worth a small each-way thought if you’re building a multiple.
