Clonmel, 14 May 2026 — Thursday Evening Tips
Clonmel on good ground on a Thursday evening. Three races to pick through, a modest card but one with a couple of genuinely interesting angles if you look past the market leaders. Good ground at Clonmel suits horses who travel well through their races rather than grinders who need cut, so that filters a few contenders out straight away. Here are the selections.
7:50 — Clonmel Racecourse Supporters Club Handicap Hurdle (2m½f)
Selection: Chanceawetmorning at 7/4 (Boyle Sports, Betfred, LiveScore Bet)
Gordon Elliott’s record over the last 14 days reads 6 wins from 87 runners. That is not a barn on fire, but Elliott fields at this level are rarely thrown in without intent, and Chanceawetmorning arrives here on the back of a win. The form reads 652P1 and that most recent success tells you this horse is in form right now, not guessing at it. Mark Walsh in the saddle is no coincidence either. He does not get on horses at this level without a yard thinking it can run well.
The concern at 7/4 is the price. This is a 12-runner handicap on good ground and at those odds there is not much room for error. Sense Of Occasion at 9/4 for Henry De Bromhead is the obvious danger. De Bromhead’s yard is running at 6/46 in the last two weeks, which is a solid enough clip, and Mark Walsh being on Chanceawetmorning rather than De Bromhead’s runner says something in itself.
Theflyingbee at 13/2 is the each-way alternative worth noting. Each-Way The RPR of 127 and TS of 122 are the highest figures in the field. The form shows a string of placed efforts (55533) and on good ground over this trip, Frank Hand’s mare could easily pick up fourth money at the very least. Four places paid at 1/5 the odds makes her interesting each-way at the price.
The win vote goes to Chanceawetmorning. Winning form, top jockey, Elliott sending runners to evening cards with purpose.
5:20 — Tote Guarantee Never Beaten By SP Maiden Hurdle (2m3½f, C&G)
Selection: Minella Diamond at 7/2 (Boyle Sports, Betfred, LiveScore Bet)
Seventeen runners in a maiden hurdle is a lot of noise to cut through, but Minella Diamond stands out on form. The RPR of 120 dwarfs everything else in the field that has a figure to reference, and at 7/2 with Danny Mullins booked, this is clearly the horse W.J. Lanigan wants to run well. Mullins does not travel to Clonmel on a Thursday for a 7/2 shot unless there is a clear reason to be there.
The form of 02F46 includes a fall, which always needs context, but the placed effort and the proximity in previous runs suggests a horse that simply needs things to fall right. Good ground on this trip at Clonmel should suit a horse with this sort of RPR. The opposition is largely unexposed or showing very low figures. At 7/2 this is a fair price, not a generous one, but in a race this open the class edge matters.
6:50 — Money Back Daily Specials Handicap Hurdle (2m3½f)
Selection: Ned In The Park Each-Way at 7/2 (Boyle Sports, Betfred, LiveScore Bet)
The form reads 55741 and that final digit is a winner. Ned In The Park won last time out and comes into this off the back of that confidence boost. Timothy Doyle’s seven-year-old has placed form before the win too, which confirms consistency rather than a one-off fluke. The RPR of 113 and TS of 96 are competitive without being top of the class in this field, but Crossing The Bar’s RPR of 117 at 12/1 tells you the market is not simply following the figures here.
Penny Express for Gordon Elliott at 8/1 is the main threat on form and the Elliott yard will always be respected. But at 7/2 for a horse in winning form with solid placed efforts on his record, Ned In The Park represents the most straightforward case in this race. Four places paid on a 12-runner handicap and the each-way terms at 1/5 make him worth playing both ways.
Le Kap for De Bromhead at 6/1 with Darragh O’Keeffe aboard is also worth a mention. Three career starts, form of 438, and a yard that has been active. The handicapper may not have fully caught up with this horse yet.
Today’s NAP
Odds: 7/4 — Boyle Sports (others: 7/4 Betfred, 7/4 LiveScore Bet)
Recent winner, top stable, Mark Walsh in the saddle. Elliott sends horses to evening meetings with purpose and the combination of winning form and a quality booking makes this the standout selection on the card. Good ground at Clonmel over two miles should pose no issues for a horse who has just won at this level. At 7/4 the price is short, but the case is clean.
