Cork, Monday 6 April 2026: Tips and Selections
A compact eight-race card at Cork on yielding ground. The going suits horses with a bit of class over pure grind, and the three races below throw up some genuinely interesting angles. Gavin Cromwell's yard is firing at 6/37 over the last fortnight, which is a decent enough clip, and Henry De Bromhead looks to be coming back to form. Focus on the chasing card and the point-to-point graduates making their hunter chase debut today.
1:15 โ Leisure Dome Ltd. Marquee Hire Maiden Hurdle (2m7ยฝf)
Thirteen runners, a long trip, and a maiden that looks wide open below the short-priced favourite. Oaks Soldier at 13/8 (Bet365) is the market leader for a reason, finishing a close second in a handicap over this exact trip at Thurles last month. That was his best run by a clear margin, and the Killarney yard of Eamon Courtney has form in this race. However, at odds-on territory that is no play for value punters.
The angle here is Jackmoon Each-Way at 5/1 (Bet365), trained by J P Flavin and ridden by Jordan Canavan. This seven-year-old had some useful bumper form before switching to hurdles, and last time out managed a fifth over 2m4f here at Cork despite being beaten 20l. The step up to 2m7ยฝf is the key move. The form he showed in bumpers suggested stamina was always going to be his friend, and this longer trip at a provincial maiden level gives him every chance to go close. He has the class ceiling above some of these and arrives at an easier race on paper than his debut. At 5/1 in a wide-open 13-runner maiden, each-way at three places is the play.
- Selection: Jackmoon (Each-Way)
- Best price: 5/1 Bet365
- EW terms: 3 places at 1/5 odds
2:25 โ Coolmore N.H. Sires Kyprios Handicap Chase (2m1f)
Nine runners, yielding ground, and a fascinating handicap chase with three Cromwell runners splitting the market. The Spotlight flags the yard as in-form, and that 6/37 strike rate over the last fortnight is not to be dismissed on a day they saddle three.
Of the three Cromwell entries, Glenashling Each-Way at 6/1 (Bet365 and CopyBet, 11/2 Coral) is the one to side with. Eoin Staples claims 5lb, and on handicap bow that is a significant advantage. The horse has solid novice chase form this season, and the Spotlight's concern about the longer trip at Christmas is now irrelevant as he drops back to 2m1f. He is the youngest and potentially most unexposed of the three Cromwell runners, and dropping to this trip on a first handicap start with a claiming rider taking off weight is a textbook Cromwell move when the yard is bang in form. The RPR of 141 is higher than anything else at comparable weights.
The Busy Fool at 3/1 (William Hill) is the obvious danger. Cheekpieces go on, the handicap chase debut was a solid third to an Irish National contender over 2m4f, and shortening to 2m1f suits a prominent racer. P J Rothwell's yard is cold at 1/28 over 14 days, which is the one reason to leave him to others at a single-figure price.
Sky Lord at 15/8 (Bet365) is the De Bromhead runner in better form according to the Spotlight, but that Down Royal flattening-out is a concern, and the yard is not exactly flying at 3/31. Bigger risks here than his market position suggests.
- Selection: Glenashling (Each-Way)
- Best price: 6/1 Bet365 / CopyBet
- EW terms: 3 places at 1/5 odds
3:00 โ Rathbarry and Glenview Studs Mares Maiden Hunters Chase (3mยฝf)
Six mares, yielding ground, three miles. This race revolves almost entirely around one horse, and there is no reason to argue with the form.
The Great Unknown at 8/13 (Unibet) is unbeaten in all six starts since last May and has a career record of ten wins from 13 starts in points. Six consecutive wins, the most recent boosted by runner-up Dora D'Or going on to win a hunter chase at Down Royal. Lucy Wang, back in third that day, reopposes and was a clear runner-up here. The form is rock solid. David Doyle claims 7lb, which in a six-runner field is a further bonus. Trainer S Curling sends this mare out in the best form of her life.
At 8/13 the price is tight, but this is not a race to get clever in. The Spotlight backs it, the form backs it, and the opposition is limited. Lucy Wang at 11/2 (Bet365) is the obvious danger and has two point wins this season including the prestigious Gain Mares Final, but she was held by The Great Unknown at Ballycahane and faces the same task again.
- Selection: The Great Unknown

Today's NAP
Odds: 6/1 โ Bet365 (others: 6/1 CopyBet, 11/2 Coral)
First handicap start, dropping back to a more suitable 2m1f trip, and Eoin Staples claiming 5lb makes a real difference in a nine-runner field. Gavin Cromwell is running three here because the yard is in form at 6/37 over 14 days, and Glenashling looks the most unexposed of the trio with an RPR of 141 doing the talking. Yielding ground is no concern for this profile of horse, and the handicapper giving him a bow at this mark looks like an opportunity. Excellent each-way value at 6/1 with three places paid.
