Cork Sunday Tips: May 10, 2026

Good ground at Cork on Sunday and three competitive novice hurdles to get stuck into. The going will suit horses who have shown ability on a sounder surface, and there are a couple of yards in cracking form worth following. P Twomey’s 14-day record of 6 wins from 11 runners jumps off the page immediately. When a powerful Flat operation saddles a runner in a maiden hurdle, and the yard is operating at that strike rate, you pay attention.

1:30 โ€” Tote Guarantee Maiden Hurdle (2m1ยฝf)

Selection: Arouet โ€” 11/4 Boyle Sports

The Twomey yard is absolutely firing right now, and Arouet brings legitimate Flat class into this maiden hurdle. Rated 101 on the level, Listed-placed, and a winner at a mile and a quarter to a mile and a half, the raw ability is not in question. His hurdling debut at Gowran in February was novicey and he trailed the field over 20 lengths, but the runner-up that day, Manoir De Mirande, has since franked the form, and the comment notes that better ground will help. Today he gets it. Good going at Cork, the right trip at 2m1f, and he doesn’t have to jump out of his skin to beat what is a modest collection of rivals here. Twomey doesn’t throw these types at winter ground to make up numbers. He runs when ready. Back him.

2:05 โ€” Sean Murphy Plant Hire Rated Novice Hurdle (2m1ยฝf)

Selection: Thisain’tthat Each-Way โ€” 6/1 Boyle Sports

This is a competitive little heat and the 6/1 about Thisain’tthat represents a fair price for a horse whose profile is screaming improvement. A half-brother to multiple winners who handled good ground and improved stepping up in trip, he showed genuine promise when second on handicap debut at Clonmel over 2m4f on yielding ground. He was travelling well through the race and only failed to reel in the leader. Today’s 2m1f is a touch shorter, but the step to good ground is the key angle here. His pedigree is built for summer conditions and he gets them today for the first time. Daniel King takes the ride and at 6/1 in a rated novice hurdle where the market leader Divaboriva is entirely unexposed on good ground herself, there is each-way juice here.

On Divaboriva: the 11/8 favourite has placed behind useful sorts in softer conditions and was Grade 3-placed in bumpers. But the Spotlight flags good ground as an unknown, and at cramped odds in an eight-runner field paying three places, backing her each-way is barely worth the admin. If she goes, she goes, but the value is against her.

Royal Soldier is interesting given he was narrowly in front when falling at the last at Fairyhouse. He clearly goes well fresh and won on handicap debut at Gowran. The problem is a 5lb penalty on top of a double penalty situation makes the price of 10/3 hard to endorse at face value. Blue Train is fair but up 10lb from a Clonmel win and trainer C Byrnes is 0 from 7 in the last fortnight.

2:40 โ€” Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Maiden Hurdle (2m3f)

Selection: Divaboriva โ€” 5/4 Betfred

Yes, the favourite. But hear me out. In a 20-runner mares’ maiden, the quality gap between Divaboriva and the rest is significant enough to justify the short price. She has placed in two hurdle starts, was second to a subsequent Grade 1 winner at Thurles, and won a bumper with black-type to her name. The question mark over good ground is genuine, noted, but her two placed runs came over 2m4f and extended 2m6f, so the trip suits. Most of her rivals here either have no form worth discussing, are changing yards, or are returning from breaks. Hillhead Runner, switching yards again, is the main threat on form but needs to settle quickly back from a layoff.

Gordon Elliott’s Golden Wings at 11/1 is worth a small saver if you want a fun punt. She was 80-1 when running third to I Started A Joke at Punchestown in January, which was a smart performance in context, but the overreach last time is a concern. Not one to load up on.

Today’s NAP

Arouet โ€” 1:30 Tote Guarantee Maiden Hurdle
Odds: 11/4 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 11/4 Betfred, 5/2 LiveScore Bet)

P Twomey’s yard is running at a stunning 6/11 strike rate over the last 14 days and Arouet is exactly the type they bring out when conditions are right. Listed-placed on the Flat, rated 101, and meeting good ground for the first time over hurdles after a forgettable debut on a testing surface at Gowran. The class advantage over this field is significant and 11/4 is a workable price given the trainer angle. The opposition simply does not have the quality to take advantage of any minor jumping errors. Take the 11/4 while it holds.
