The going suits plenty of these runners, trainer stats are telling their usual story, and there are a couple of prices worth getting stuck into.

Emerald Enigma has won both completed starts, posting a 1-1 form line that stands out in a field littered with mares that have been pulling up, falling, or running in the teens and hundreds. Good ground suits, the 2m1f trip is familiar territory for a Mullins staying type, and the combination of a top jockey, a firing yard, and a clean form record makes this a near-banker. The price is short, and rightly so.

The dangers come from Belladaball (7/2) who showed ability when fourth on her latest run and Fraher Field (8/1) for the Kiely yard, who have a positive A/E of 1.23 at Cork. But neither can match the profile of the market leader here.

A competitive 12-runner handicap and the race of the day from a punting perspective. The weight-at-the-top angle is brutal across the board, but Arctic Flame catches the eye at 7/1. The six-year-old mare arrives on the back of a win last time out with a second two starts prior, giving her a 205-21 form line that reads better than most in this field. She handles today’s trip and going, and Simon Torrens is a capable pilot. At 166lbs she is carrying the full burden, but that weight is relative to her rivals who aren’t exactly featherweights themselves.

Metamorpheus (7/2) is the one to beat on paper, consistently finishing second and placed over course-relevant trips, but the note that he ran just two days ago is a genuine red flag. That kind of quick turnaround in a handicap hurdle on good ground is a risk, and the market may have priced in too much on his consistency without factoring in fatigue. Gino Bella (4/1) for the same Foley yard as Arctic Flame is another live contender but the pulling-up incident three starts back is hard to ignore in a finish.

Arctic Flame at 7/1 each-way with four places paid at 1/5 the odds represents solid each-way value in a 12-runner field. The yard goes cold in the stats but the mare’s form is the form that matters most here.

4:30 — Adare Manor Opportunity Maiden Hurdle (2m2f, Good, 21 runners)

Twenty-one runners in a maiden hurdle is always a lottery, but Mullins at 11/54 in the past fortnight and a debut winner on the form card cuts through the noise. Livio won on his first start and while he has disappointed since, a yard that fires at 27% at Cork and has Townend’s colleague Sean Cleary-Farrell aboard will not be throwing this one in without intent. The form line of 1/30 is not pretty in isolation, but debut winners from Mullins who come back in maidens deserve respect, particularly on good ground at a track the stable know inside out.

Eye Contact (6/1) is the each-way alternative worth noting at a bigger price in this huge field, having shown some ability with a string of placed efforts on his hurdles form. In a 21-runner maiden with only three places paid, the Mullins runner makes more appeal at the front of the market.
