Doncaster, 16 May 2026: Tips and Selections
Good ground at Town Moor on a Friday evening card that doubles up nicely with the boxing action also taking place in Doncaster tonight. Three races to dig into, a couple of angles worth following, and one bet I’d back without hesitation.
5:27 โ John Parker’s Big 50th Restricted Maiden Stakes (5f, Good)
Noble Raider is the standout on form and deserves his favouritism at 8/11. David Egan gets the call for Kevin Philippart De Foy, a trainer who already has two wins from six juvenile runners at this track. The colt showed clear progression from his Tapeta debut to his Newmarket run, where he finished third to a better-fancied stablemate. This step back in class should see him off the mark.
The each-way interest at bigger prices comes from Dancingonthestars Each-Way at 8/1 with Boyle Sports or Betfred (3 places, 1/5 odds). Dylan Cunha won this exact race last year with a similarly typed runner on their second start. This is an early-foaled half-brother to three winners, one of whom scored on debut, and he holds sales-race entries suggesting the connections have genuine ambitions. Cunha’s yard is firing at 5 wins from 20 runners in the last 14 days. Worth covering at the price.

6:02 โ Racing Welfare Novice Stakes (6f, Good)
Two horses split the market and the form angle points clearly to one of them. The Untamed at 2/1 (Boyle Sports) for Richard Hannon is the one I want. He ran second on Polytrack first time out in March before winning easily at Ripon over this exact trip on good to soft a month ago. The form profile is progressive, the yard is ticking along at 6 from 51 in the last fortnight, and Kevin Stott knows this horse.
Flight Control did create a strong impression when winning over this course and distance but carries a penalty today and was a 200,000 euro yearling sold on for 8,000 guineas last autumn. Interesting backstory, but the market and the form both favour the Hannon runner at a better price. The Untamed at 15/8 with Betfred or LiveScore Bet is the sharper play.
Selection: The Untamed | 2/1 Boyle Sports (best: 15/8 Betfred/LiveScore Bet)
6:38 โ Free Tips On attheraces.com Handicap (6f, Good)
Twelve runners in a handicap, good ground, and genuine each-way possibilities throughout the field. The horse that catches the eye is Noble Consort Each-Way at 6/1 with Boyle Sports or LiveScore Bet. Five wins from his last eight starts, including a win over this course and distance, and the visor transformation has been remarkable. He has gone up 31lb in the weights since the headgear went on, which reflects how well he has been rated, but Julie Camacho’s yard is cold at the moment (0 from 23 in 14 days) and he has been off for eight months since Goodwood in September. The going suits, the course suits, but he genuinely needs a career-best to get back on terms from this mark. Back him each-way and hope the layoff has freshened him up.
Havana Rum at 4/1 is the obvious market leader with Ethan Tindall continuing a productive partnership. Two wins together in the past nine months and a solid comeback at Pontefract last month over 5f. The step back up to 6f is fine, the going is fine, but he is on a career-high mark after another 2lb rise. The form is there, but the price feels tight given the handicapper has caught up with him.
At bigger odds, Lorna B Each-Way at 13/2 (Boyle Sports) is interesting. She won her first two handicap starts last summer, has been off eight months, and that surprise maiden win on her comeback the previous spring suggests she can show up fresh. Low mileage for a four-year-old filly and still relatively unexposed in handicaps.
Selection: Noble Consort (each-way) | 6/1 Boyle Sports/LiveScore Bet
Today’s NAP
Odds: 8/11 โ Boyle Sports (others: 8/11 Betfred, 4/6 LiveScore Bet)
Two runs in, two clear steps forward. Noble Raider went from a green debut on Tapeta to a sharp Newmarket effort behind a better-fancied stablemate, and that improvement trajectory makes him the banker of the card today. Kevin Philippart De Foy already has a 2/6 strike rate with juvenile runners at Doncaster, David Egan takes the ride, and this field does not ask him to beat anything close to the level he has already faced. Good ground at Town Moor should suit a horse whose pedigree and physique mark him out as a proper early-season type. The price is short, but on this occasion it is warranted.
