Doncaster, Saturday 20 June 2026: Tips & Selections

A seven-race card at Doncaster on good to firm ground, and there are three races worth focusing on this evening. The straight seven furlongs suits sharp, front-running types, and the mile-and-two in the novice stakes will sort the stayers from the pretenders. Trainer stats at this track are a legitimate edge today, so they’re doing heavy lifting in the analysis below.

5:48 โ€” British Stallion Studs EBF Restricted Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (7f, Good To Firm)

Fourteen runners in a maiden for two-year-old fillies, and the standout angle here is trainer James Owen. His Doncaster record reads 20% winners from 44 runners with an A/E of 1.41, which is the best ratio among any trainer active on this card. That means punters backing his runners here would have made money over time. Heldobeldo carries that Owen booking and has shown consistency with back-to-back seconds. Two places suggest she handles this trip and grade without throwing in a horror show. She maps as the horse most likely to be competitive at a price, and at 3/1 with Boyle Sports, she represents the value in the race rather than the market leader.

The market is pointing toward Vegas Lights for Richard Hannon, who is in form overall with six winners from 51 runners in the last fortnight. A debut third is workable form. Daniel Muscutt rides Aminaty for Andrew Balding, and Muscutt’s Doncaster record sits at 15% with an A/E of exactly 1.01, so he’s a jockey who performs to level-stakes profit at this course. Aminaty is unexposed and worth a second glance in the frame at 13/2.

Selection: Heldobeldo at 3/1 (Boyle Sports), with Aminaty as each-way cover.

6:20 โ€” Summer Saturday Series Fillies’ Novice Stakes (1m2f, Good To Firm)

Four runners, and the market has installed Seven Sisters as the 5/6 favourite for Ralph Beckett. Beckett’s Doncaster strike rate is 15%, which is solid, but his last 14 days show only 2 winners from 29 runners. That’s a yard running below its ceiling right now, and 5/6 about a horse with a form line reading 23 on a mile-and-two for the first time asks you to lay out money you won’t enjoy risking.

The interesting counter is William Haggas with Chimes Of Thunder. Haggas has sent out 13 winners from 47 runners in the last 14 days. The yard is genuinely firing. The form line of 6-25 tells a story of gradual improvement, and stepping up to a mile and two on good to firm ground suits a filly bred for staying distances. The price of 13/2 is generous given how Haggas is operating at the moment.

Khepri for K R Burke is also of interest at 10/3, with Burke running at 8 winners from 40 in the last fortnight. But with no previous form in the book, you’re working blind. Chimes Of Thunder has the trainer momentum and the price.

Selection: Chimes Of Thunder at 13/2 (Boyle Sports or Betfred).

6:55 โ€” Ian “Festa” Smithurst Memorial Handicap (7f, Good To Firm)

Thirteen runners in a handicap, good to firm, straight seven furlongs. This is the most competitive race on the card and the one with the best each-way opportunity if you identify the right angle.

K R Burke has two runners here and his yard is in terrific form. Gesayed Each-Way is the one to focus on. A form line of 1-35 shows a winner on the board, and the recent placed efforts confirm she hasn’t gone off the boil. Clifford Lee takes the ride, and with Burke sitting at 9 winners from 50 in the last fortnight, the operation is ticking over. The 9/2 available with Betfred and LiveScore Bet is the best price, and at 3 places each-way at 1/4 odds in a 13-runner field, there’s genuine merit in taking the each-way option.

Three Non Blondes for Burke also deserves a mention at 7/1, with form reading 1-215 showing she can win at this level. Two horses from the same trainer in the same race is never ideal for punters, but Burke’s form suggests he could easily fill two places here.

Flight Control at 6/1 is interesting for Kevin and Lauren Frost, who have sent out 3 winners from 13 runners lately. A form line of 135 shows consistent placed form and an improving profile. This one could sneak into the frame on good to firm ground over the straight seven.

Selection: Gesayed Each-Way at 9/2 (Betfred/LiveScore Bet). Flight Control is the each-way saver at 6/1.

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksHeldobeldo โ€” British Stallion Studs EBF Restricted Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (5:48, Doncaster)
Odds: 3/1 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 11/4 Betfred)

James Owen’s Doncaster record is the best of any trainer on the card today, hitting at 20% with an A/E of 1.41. Heldobeldo brings two consecutive runner-up finishes into this, which shows a consistent filly who knows how to race without going missing. Good to firm is exactly the surface you want for a quick, sharp two-year-old stepping forward, and at 3/1 in a maiden where the market favourite has a single placed run on debut, this represents the value in the race.
