Doncaster, Friday 26 June 2026: Tips, Angles and Best Bets

Doncaster stages eight races today under threatening skies, with thunderstorms forecast to roll across South Yorkshire as the card progresses. The going is Good To Firm at the off, but that could shift quickly if the storms arrive early, so keep an eye on any going updates before racing. With a tight eight-race card, value is the name of the game across some modest prize funds. David Egan returns to a track where his 15% strike rate from 181 rides gives him a meaningful edge, and his two rides today are worth noting closely.

Five runners over a mile and four furlongs, and the market has this as a straight fight between Brunhilde at evens and Alpinara at 7/4. The obvious play is Brunhilde, trained by George Boughey and ridden by James Doyle. Her form reads 42, which means she has already shown she can compete at this level, and stepping up to 1m4f looks a natural progression for a filly who will likely relish the extra distance. The yard has been quiet recently with just one winner from 27 runs in the last fortnight, but Doyle rarely gets on a horse at this trip without believing in the stamina credentials.

Alpinara, with David Egan up for Sir Mark Prescott, is dangerous. Prescott is a master at placing horses, particularly fillies, and the yard will have her spot-on. Her debut form figure of 7 could easily be misleading if she ran green or encountered trouble. At 13/8 with Betfred, she represents the each-way alternative in what is essentially a two-horse race.

Selection: Brunhilde (Evens, Betfred/BoyleSports) โ€” the form is there, the trip suits, and Doyle knows how to get the best out of a stayer.

11:15 โ€” Sky Sports Racing Virgin 512 Handicap (6f)

Nine runners over six furlongs and this is where things get interesting. Ruby Red Gove Each-Way at 5/1 catches the eye immediately. Her form figures read 241361, which is the form of a consistent, in-form sprinter who keeps turning up in the right places. A win, a second, a third, another win and a sixth on her latest outing suggest she goes well fresh and regularly finds herself in the frame. Trainer Ivan Furtado has had one winner from 24 attempts in the last 14 days, which is modest, but this filly’s own consistency is the story here rather than yard form.

Zubaru runs for the in-form George Scott operation, which has posted three winners from 18 runs recently. His form of -31124 tells you he is building nicely through the ranks and the 7/2 on offer at BoyleSports and LiveScore Bet is fair. He could easily be the one to beat on a going surface that suits a horse in good nick.

David Egan takes the ride on Photosynthesis at 3/1, the market leader, but that recent form of 1-0743 gives no confidence at all. The win looks a distant memory and this price is too short given the profile.

Selection: Ruby Red Gove (5/1, BoyleSports/Betfred) Each-Way โ€” consistent form, strong place claims, and 5/1 is the right price to take both ways.

11:45 โ€” Follow AtTheRaces On Instagram Handicap (7f)

Seven runners over seven furlongs and David O’Meara’s yard is very much in focus here. O’Meara has been firing with seven winners from 59 runs across the last fortnight, and Daniel Tudhope takes the ride on Al Muqdad at 5/1. The form of 736063 is not eye-catching on the surface, but the yard stat is strong and Tudhope knows the O’Meara horses inside out. Seven furlongs at Doncaster is a proper test of pace and stamina combined, and horses trained to peak by O’Meara at this track tend to run their race.

Beale Street at 5/1 with Paul Mulrennan is harder to ignore. The Bryan Smart yard has a winner on the board recently, and Beale Street’s form of 210102 screams a horse who is consistent, competitive, and nearly always involved. The 0 on the penultimate run slightly concerns, but everything else in that sequence suggests he pitches up and performs. At 9/2 with LiveScore Bet, that is the sharpest price available and worth taking.

Magic Music at 3/1 is the market leader but Steph Hollinshead has had a lean spell with no winners from nine runs recently. The 3/1 asks you to have plenty of faith in a yard that simply is not firing right now.

Selection: Beale Street (9/2, LiveScore Bet) โ€” consistent form, a trainer with a recent winner on the board, and Mulrennan is a canny operator in these northern handicaps.

Today’s NAP

Odds: Evens โ€” BoyleSports/Betfred/LiveScore Bet

In a race that effectively reduces to two contenders, Brunhilde’s existing form figures of 42 give her a clear edge over an Alpinara who was beaten on debut. The step up to 1m4f looks tailored for her, James Doyle does not make the trip for no reason, and Good To Firm ground on Doncaster’s galloping straight track should play directly to her strengths. Evens is not a generous price, but in a race this small with this much confidence behind the angle, it is the NAP of the day.
