Doncaster Tips: Thursday 23 July 2026

A compact seven-race card at Doncaster on good to firm ground, and with Glorious Goodwood just five days away, trainers in the southern powerhouses are keeping their powder dry for bigger prizes. That actually opens the door here, because the yards that do show up look genuinely motivated. The Gosden operation in particular arrives red-hot, 10 wins from their last 18 runners over a fortnight. William Buick rides at a track where he converts at 21% with a positive A/E of 1.09. Pay attention when those two factors combine.

2:10 โ€” British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes (7f, Good To Firm)

Selection: Narrjoo (10/3, Boyle Sports/Betfred)

The market is split fairly evenly between three horses here, and the one to side with is the Simon and Ed Crisford-trained Narrjoo, ridden by Callum Rodriguez. The Crisfords are one of the standout yards at this track, 20% strike rate over 66 runners with an A/E of 1.13, meaning they consistently outperform their starting prices at Doncaster. The yard is firing at 7 from 25 runners over the last fortnight. Debutants from this operation on fast ground at seven furlongs are rarely sent off without confidence behind them.

Evens favourite Jassas for Charlie Appleby and Buick demands respect, though Appleby’s Doncaster A/E sits at a less convincing 0.88. The yard wins here but at shorter prices than they should, which makes Narrjoo the value play at more than three times the odds. Night Star (7/2) has shown a bit with a couple of placed runs for Richard Hannon and Sean Levey, but the Crisford angle is the sharper angle on the day.

2:40 โ€” Doncaster Supports Autism In Racing EBF Novice Stakes (1m2f, Good To Firm)

Selection: Interstate (5/4, Boyle Sports/LiveScore Bet, 11/8 Betfred)

Four runners and a tight market, but the logic here is compelling. Interstate is trained by John and Thady Gosden, who are the outstanding trainers at this venue, 23% win rate from 161 runners with an A/E of 1.04. The yard has been in extraordinary form lately, ten winners from eighteen runners in the past two weeks. William Buick takes the ride, and as noted, Buick at Doncaster is a profitable combination.

The form figures of 02- suggest a horse who has bumped into a good one and then had a break, returning here for what looks a very winnable novice. A mile and a quarter on quick ground suits the profile of a Gosden-Buick three-year-old colt with scope. Round The Table (8/15 favourite) for Tom Clover and David Egan is the obvious danger. Clover goes well at Doncaster with a 1.10 A/E, and Egan converts at 16% here with a 1.15 A/E, so it is far from a foregone conclusion. But Interstate at 5/4 with Betfred paying 11/8 looks the smarter play if you want to oppose the jolly.

3:10 โ€” Sky Bet Go-Racing-In-Yorkshire Summer Festival Nursery Handicap (6ยฝf, Good To Firm)

Selection: Jumeirah Storm Each-Way (5/2, Boyle Sports/Betfred/LiveScore Bet)

Jumeirah Storm for William Knight and Neil Callan makes plenty of appeal on the back of a progressive profile. The form reads 4-1, with that last-time-out win representing genuine improvement. The Knight yard has been ticking over steadily, 4 from 20 over the past fortnight, and the handicapper may not have fully caught up with a colt who looks to be on an upward curve.

The market favourite Ten Clarets (15/8, K.R. Burke) has form of 4-2 and Burke’s yard is in cracking nick, 7 from 36 recently. Clifford Lee takes the ride and this one is a serious threat. Shadow King (5/2) for Richard Hannon showed a win last time and Sean Levey keeps the ride, so the yard clearly fancies the colt’s chances. With only five runners and two places on offer at 1/4 odds, each-way makes sense on Jumeirah Storm at the 5/2 available. Ralph Beckett’s Rhodes Runner (9/2) has been knocking on the door with three consecutive placed efforts and could yet nick second money on the each-way market.

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksInterstate โ€” Doncaster Supports Autism In Racing EBF Novice Stakes (2:40, Doncaster)
Odds: 11/8 โ€” Betfred (others: 5/4 Boyle Sports, 5/4 LiveScore Bet)

The Gosden yard is the best-performing trainer at Doncaster by volume and quality, with a 23% strike rate and a positive A/E. They arrive here with 10 winners from their last 18 runners, and William Buick, who converts at 21% at this course, takes the ride. Interstate’s profile suggests a horse whose form figures understate his ability, and the step up to a mile and a quarter on good to firm ground looks the right move. The 11/8 available at Betfred represents genuine value against an odds-on market leader in a race where the second-string connections are still very capable of delivering.
