14:29 – Grade A3, 480m
| Trap | Dog | Age | Trainer | Last 3 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Porthall Finn | 2y D | N Slowley | 266 |
| 2 | Sky Blue Jeff | 2y D | J Hall | 421 |
| 3 | Ruths Lass | 1y B | R Lambe | 222 |
| 4 | Southwind Ned | 3y D | R Williams | No form |
| 5 | Bullseye Bob | 3y D | S Deakin | No form |
| 6 | Headford Killian | 2y D | S Deakin | No form |
The opening race features Porthall Finn and Ruths Lass as the standout performers. Porthall Finn has shown consistency at A3 level with a recent win at this track just over a week ago (14 May: won by 6.25 lengths from trap one). Form reads 26612, showing steady progress, though the dog did fade badly in recent A2 attempts (6th finishes on 4 and 21 June). Ruths Lass is the younger runner at just one year old, but has impressed with three consecutive seconds from trap three, including a photo finish on 10 June. The filly shows electric early pace (EP) and mid-track positioning, winning from trap three just once from available form.
NAP: Ruths Lass, Trap 3. The young bitch has the form and consistency of a Class Three winner in waiting, and trap three sits at 21% strike rate at Dunstall over 480m. Her sharp early pace and ability to lead or press from the middle should suit the trip perfectly.
15:44 – Grade A4, 480m
| Trap | Dog | Age | Trainer | Last 3 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Detroit Blu | 1y D | D T Smith | 341 |
| 2 | Breezer | 2y D | R Lambe | 352 |
| 3 | We Dont Know | 2y D | D T Smith | 345 |
| 4 | Over Thebarpaddy | 4y D | K Harrison | No form |
| 5 | Cross Keys Maggy | 4y B | P Holder | No form |
| 6 | Inclementweather | 4y B | J Hall | No form |
Detroit Blu stands out as a progressive runner with excellent recent form. The one-year-old has won three of his last five outings, including wins at A5 and A6 grades on 20 and 27 May. Form reads 11143, and while recent A4 efforts show 3rd and 4th placings, the dog has proven he can win at higher grades. From trap one, which carries a 35% strike rate at this track, Detroit Blu should get every assistance from the draw. The early pace (EP), rails running (Rls), and early leads (ALd, Ld1/4) are all positive indicators at this grade.
NAP: Detroit Blu, Trap 1. A young dog with genuine winning form at higher grades now stepping back into A4 company. The trap one bias is significant, and the dog’s early speed and rails preference align perfectly with the track profile.
16:03 – Grade A2, 480m
| Trap | Dog | Age | Trainer | Last 3 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Southfield Ace | 2y D | R Short | 313 |
| 2 | First Ambition | 1y D | J Rigby | 112 |
| 3 | Avarua Flight | 3y D | R Williams | 124 |
| 4 | Ceejay Sparkle | 2y B | R Lambe | No form |
| 5 | Swift Zilch | 3y B | P Holder | No form |
| 6 | Kingdom Bucks | 2y D | D T Smith | No form |
This is the strongest race on the card. First Ambition has been imperious at A3 and A4 level, winning the last two races (11 and 4 June) and showing excellent mid-track and late leadership (ALd = all the way). Form reads 15241, but the recent wins are dominant: 3.25 lengths and 2.5 lengths respectively. Now stepped up to A2, Ambition will face genuine competition, but the dog’s consistency from trap two and proven ability to lead from the middle are valuable assets. Avarua Flight is also impressive: a recent A2 winner (11 June by 2 lengths) with form 22242, though the dog has struggled at A1 level with two 2nds and a 4th. Southfield Ace rounds the main contenders with a win at D3 sprint (2 June) and form 23523, but recent A2 and Open race attempts have been less convincing.
NAP: First Ambition, Trap 2. The dog has won four of the last five races at lower grades and looks ready to prove itself at A2. The recent wins show significant margin of victory, and consistent rails-to-middle running from trap two has proven highly effective.
16:22 – Grade A4, 480m
| Trap | Dog | Age | Trainer | Last 3 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Lynnia Queen | 2y B | M T Field | 554 |
| 2 | Mohican Hallie | 1y B | D T Smith | 145 |
| 3 | Blazeaway Rocket | 2y D | S Deakin | 611 |
| 4 | Bombay Tilda | 2y B | D T Smith | No form |
| 5 | Kizia Star | 2y B | S Deakin | No form |
| 6 | Lynnia Mick | 2y D | M T Field | No form |
Blazeaway Rocket has genuine winning form at A4 and A5 with two wins in the last three races (25 and 18 May). Form reads 11644, showing recent volatility, but the wins came by 2.25 and a nose respectively. Trap three positioning (mid track, early pace) has worked well, though the dog did fall on 4 May at A5 level, which requires caution. Mohican Hallie is a one-year-old filly showing promise with a recent A5 win (13 June by 2.75 lengths) and form 16566. The early wins came at A5 grade, and stepping into A4 represents genuine progression. Lynnia Queen has limited recent data with form going back to March; the dog shows inconsistency and a recent 660m staying race attempt that resulted in 5th place.
NAP: Blazeaway Rocket, Trap 3. The recent wins at this grade and level are genuine, and the dog has demonstrated ability to hold on. Trap three sits at a respectable 21% strike rate, and the mid-track running style aligns with consistent racing patterns.
