Fairyhouse, Saturday 4th April 2026: Racing Tips
Yielding to soft ground at Fairyhouse suits horses with a bit of class and a proven engine. Three decent Listed races headline the card, and Willie Mullins unsurprisingly has fingers in every pie. The key is finding where his second or third string offers value against his market leaders, and where smaller yards punch through the noise.
2:40 โ BOYLE Sports Mares Handicap Chase (Listed, 2m5f)
Eleven runners, three places, and a race that sets up nicely for a mare who has been crying out for a drop in grade. This is the most competitive mares' handicap chase on the Irish calendar outside of the festival, and the form lines are genuinely tangled.
Kilbarry Saint (7/2, Bet365/William Hill/Coral) is the selection. Danny Mullins takes the ride for C. O'Keeffe, a yard that is 1/1 in the last 14 days, which is a small but meaningful stat. More importantly, this mare finally got her head in front over fences at the tenth attempt at Clonmel last month on soft ground, and the manner of that win told a story. She had been placed behind Only By Night at Exeter and Spindleberry at Clonmel earlier in the season, meaning she has been mixing it with quality mares throughout. The step back into handicap company, off a mark that reflects her still-developing chase career, looks well timed. Today's yielding to soft is exactly what she wants, the 2m5f trip suits, and Danny Mullins does not take these bookings for fun. The 7/2 is fair each-way at three places.
Ballybawn Belter Each-Way (5/1, Bet365/William Hill) is worth a small saver. She won a Listed handicap at Christmas off a soft-to-heavy surface and ran creditably in stronger Leopardstown company twice since. The mistake last time out may have cost her closer proximity to the winner. This is a drop back in grade and she handles the going. Simon Torrens is an underrated booking. At 5/1 with three places paid, she makes appeal each-way.
Bioluminescence at 9/2 is respected but conceding big chunks of weight from a top mark is a tough ask, even for a mare with Grade 2 novice chase form.
4:25 โ Irish Stallion Farms EBF Novice Handicap Hurdle Series Final (Listed, 3m)
Twenty-one runners over three miles on yielding to soft ground. This is a brutal puzzle. Gordon Elliott's yard is 3/37 in the last 14 days, which is a poor strike rate for a stable of that size. Emmet Mullins is 0/3 in the same period. Interesting, then, to look elsewhere.
Tip Of The Wings Each-Way (11/1, Bet365/William Hill) is the one that catches the eye. Jack Kennedy takes the ride for Gordon Elliott, and Kennedy does not sit on no-hopers in big handicaps. The form reads well: he won a 2m Limerick maiden in February on heavy ground, making all to beat a long odds-on favourite, then ran a clear second in a 2m Navan novice conceding plenty of weight to the winner. The critical line in the Spotlight is that he is "a type to make his mark in handicaps and a good chance he'll improve for this step up in trip." Three miles on soft ground for a horse that gallops relentlessly and stays every yard of two miles on heavy sounds like a combination that works. Cheekpieces are added, which often sharpens a young horse's focus on a big-field handicap day. At 11/1 in a 21-runner field with five places paid, this is a genuine each-way play.
Vitorio Piel (7/1, Bet365/William Hill) is also worth considering. The Punchestown festival bumper form on yielding ground is relevant here, and he won his latest hurdle race by outpacing an odds-on shot from the last flight on heavy ground. Emmet Mullins is out of form but this horse's profile suggests he could be better than his yard's recent stats. Handicap debut at 7/1 in a 21-runner field keeps him on the radar.
Hens Tooth at 28/1 is interesting as a Brian Hayes/Mullins combination, but the fact Townend opts for Fillyoureye says everything you need to know about the pecking order in that yard today.
5:00 โ RYBO Handicap Hurdle (Listed, 2m)
Nineteen runners, five places, and a race where the market will be dominated by the Mullins entries. Paul Townend picks Karbau, and that alone makes the 11/4 inevitable. But is there value at that price in a 19-runner Listed handicap? Probably not at that short a price for a horse beaten in the County Hurdle last time, even with reasonable excuses.
The angle here is Murcia Each-Way (9/1, Bet365). Danny Mullins takes the ride for Willie Mullins, which means she is the second string in the yard but still a Mullins second string. This is a Grade 1 juvenile hurdle winner at Aintree, lightly raced this season, and her fourth of 19 in the DRF handicap was described as "a fine run." She didn't count in the County Hurdle, so that run can be ignored. She is a mare dropping into handicap company off a reasonable mark on yielding to soft ground, and at 9/1 with five places paid she is the value play in this race.
Helvic Dream at 20/1 is an interesting veteran angle. He won this race last year, finished second in it the year before that, and was close up behind Karbau and Hello Neighbour in the County Hurdle before tiring late. The nine-year-old is 6lb higher than when he won this 12 months ago, which is the sticking point. Worth noting if you want a speculative fifth place at 20/1.
Hello Neighbour at 10/1 has decent claims on the County Hurdle form relative to Karbau, and the injury return means he could still be on the upgrade. But Keith Donoghue's booking over Townend on Karbau tells the story of the pecking order on the day.
Today's NAP
Odds: 7/2 โ Bet365 (others: 7/2 William Hill, 7/2 Coral)
Ten chase starts to get off the mark, but the quality of opposition she has faced throughout the season is the real context here. Beaten by Only By Night and Spindleberry before finally winning at Clonmel last month on soft ground, she steps back into handicap company with Danny Mullins in the saddle, a yard in form at 1/1 in the last 14 days, and a trip and going combination that suits her perfectly. She is not well exposed over fences, which means the handicapper has not fully caught up with her yet. At 7/2 in a quality mares' Listed handicap, this is genuine each-way value.
