Fairyhouse, Friday 5 June 2026: Tips and Selections

Light rain is drifting across Fairyhouse today, but the going remains Good, and that suits a fair few of the horses on this card. Three races stand out for analysis, and there is at least one genuine each-way play at a price worth backing. Tomorrow the racing world turns to Epsom for the Derby, but Fairyhouse offers some tasty value bets before the big weekend gets going.

4:20 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Race (7f, 2yo, 9 runners)

Selection: Florida Bay (4/5 Boyle Sports)

Aidan O’Brien’s yard is ticking along at 9/34 in the last fortnight, and this colt did everything asked of him on debut at Leopardstown without getting the clearest of passages. He had to be switched twice, was second string in the market, and still hit the line with real purpose over this identical trip. The Spotlight note that he “looks like he’d get a mile already” tells you this is a horse with a proper engine, not a speed merchant who’ll regress on a stiffer test.

The opposition here is thin. Dancing Destiny (11/4) was outclassed at 20/1 in a Naas Group 3 last time. Telegraph Road (6/1) ran respectably at Leopardstown but finished three lengths off Florida Bay on that same card. Always Magic has a decent pedigree and an impressive barrier trial, but Davison’s yard is winless in three runs over the last fortnight. Florida Bay should be a short-priced winner, and the 4/5 is a fair enough reflection of his superiority in this grade.

  • Florida Bay: 4/5 Boyle Sports
  • Telegraph Road: Each-way at 6/1 (ran into Florida Bay at Leopardstown, not disgraced)

5:30 Fiver Fridays At Fairyhouse Rated Race (7f, 3yo, 7 runners)

Selection: Ocean’s Breath Each-Way (7/2 Boyle Sports)

Ger Lyons has fired in 5 winners from 12 runners over the last two weeks, a strike rate that demands attention. Ocean’s Breath has been quietly building a case, and the Naas handicap run last time reads better than the result suggests. He got warm beforehand, his rider committed to the stands’ rail, and the entire field was racing down the far side. Strip that out and you have a horse who won by three lengths on AW in April, whose form looks solid, and who has an 11lb pull with the top weight Kindergarten from their Navan clash last autumn.

Kindergarten (6/1) has talent but comes off the bridle early and didn’t finish off in a Group 3 at Naas last time. County Carlow (15/8 favourite) made all at Sligo on soft ground, which is a very different proposition to Good at Fairyhouse, and Twomey’s yard has an A/E of just 0.89 at this track. Ocean’s Breath with a clear run and racing on the right part of the track is the play. At 7/2, each-way is the sensible approach in a seven-runner field.

  • Ocean’s Breath: 7/2 Boyle Sports, each-way (2 places, 1/4 odds)
  • County Carlow: Main danger, but the soft-ground Sligo form is a concern on Good ground today

6:00 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Race (6f, 7 runners)

Selection: Howd’yadoit (11/8 Boyle Sports)

Lyons fires again with what looks the most solid profile on this card for the hour. Howd’yadoit won the Ballyhane Stakes last year, meaning this horse has already handled a proper audience. This season he ran off a mark of 91 to beat older rivals at Navan over 5f on yielding ground, and is now rated 101. The step up to 6f is no concern given he ran well to finish fourth in a Listed race over this exact course and distance last September.

Tango Flare (13/2) has won this race twice before, but two handicap runs this term have been below par. Gazelle d’Or (11/4) is the sharpest threat, splitting a 110-rated and a 104-rated rival in Listed company at Naas last time out, and she has won twice over 6f. But Howd’yadoit carries the Lyons yard momentum, suits the trip, and the Good ground is a comfortable surface for a horse rated in the low hundreds who has shown he can front-run or track.

  • Howd’yadoit: 11/8 Boyle Sports
  • Gazelle d’Or: Watch the market, she ran a stormer last time and is dangerous at 11/4

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksOcean’s Breath โ€” Fiver Fridays At Fairyhouse Rated Race (5:30, Fairyhouse)
Odds: 7/2 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 7/2 Betfred, 7/2 LiveScore Bet)

Ger Lyons is in blistering form with five winners from twelve runners in the past fortnight. Ocean’s Breath was a victim of circumstance at Naas, getting warm before the race and racing on the wrong side of the track entirely. His AW win in April was authoritative, he has an 11lb pull with the top weight from last autumn’s Navan form, and Good ground at Fairyhouse over 7f is exactly the conditions he wants. The 7/2 is a price with genuine merit in a race the yard has good reason to target.
