Fairyhouse, Wednesday 1 July 2026 — Tips & Selections
A seven-race card at Fairyhouse on good to firm ground, cloudy overhead but the surface is quick enough to matter. Three races have data to work with, and there are genuine angles in all three. Joseph Patrick O’Brien fires in numbers at this track and has a healthy 14-day strike rate. JP Murtagh’s yard is also ticking over nicely. England’s Test summer rolls on across the water, but the focus here is firmly on the Fairyhouse turf.
5:05 — Irish EBF Median Sires Series Race (6f, 2yo, Good To Firm)
Selection: Alwaysanangel (4/1, Boyle Sports / Betfred / LiveScore Bet)
Joseph Patrick O’Brien has ten winners from 67 runners over the past 14 days, and his course record here reads 15% strike rate from a substantial sample. Alwaysanangel is a 75,000 guineas breeze-up purchase by Harry Angel, a full-sister to Yorkshire, a smart 7f performer. The pedigree has pace and that matters on a 6f good to firm surface. Dylan Browne McMonagle takes the ride, and the yard’s record with first-time starters is hard to ignore. The tongue-tie fitting signals that connections have done their homework and want this filly sharp from the gate.
Scandi Noir ran a notably honest race on debut at Cork, giving away ground at the start and closing to within two and a quarter lengths. She improves here and is the main danger. But at 11/8 she is a short price to take on faith. Alwaysanangel at 4/1 offers better value for a filly with the breeding, the handler, and the jockey aligned in her favour. Away And Gone showed more last time at Navan and is worth a mention at 10/1 for each-way tickets in the place market.
6:10 — Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Handicap (6f, 3yo+, Good To Firm)
Selection: Thenandnow Each-Way (8/1, Boyle Sports / LiveScore Bet)
Top-rated in the field on figures and dropping back from Listed company where the class was simply too strong. Mrs John Harrington’s yard has been firing, with six winners from 42 runners across the past 14 days. Shane Foley takes the ride on a filly who handles this trip and this surface, and the move back into a fillies handicap is exactly the right decision from connections. The breeding suggests she has more to offer, and today’s opposition is significantly weaker than her last assignment.
Treasure Rose is the obvious danger, a filly who won on handicap debut and arrives in good heart from a Murtagh yard that is running at 7 wins from 33 over the last fortnight. The slight rise in the weights off her winning mark is the one caveat, but she cannot be dismissed. Treasured Royal, fitted with a first-time hood, handles good ground and makes each-way appeal at 15/2 in a competitive 11-runner field. At 8/1, Thenandnow represents the stand-out value: top of the figures, dropping in class, in-form handler, right ground.
With 11 runners and 3 places paid at 1/5 odds, Thenandnow is an each-way play.
7:20 — GAIN The Advantage Series Handicap (1m½f, 3yo, Good To Firm)
Selection: Kc Bear Each-Way (7/2, Boyle Sports / LiveScore Bet)
The interference angle here is strong. Kc Bear met trouble at a pivotal moment last time at this same track, was left doing too much from off the pace, and still finished only 2¼ lengths behind the winner off a mark 1lb higher than he carries today. Colin Keane rides again and knows this horse’s style well, holding him up and looking for a gap late. Noel Meade’s yard has two winners from 12 runners over the past 14 days, nothing spectacular but they are not out of form. Course form counts for something in a 15-runner handicap, and Kc Bear has already shown he handles this track.
Only One Scobie is the market leader and the form book says respect him: five-length winner at Leopardstown, though a 7lb rise is not insignificant and his latest run sees him caught going for home too soon at the wrong trip. Fortuity won here not long ago and returns off a mark just 4lb higher, fitted with cheekpieces, and must be kept onside at 13/2. But Kc Bear at 7/2 with a clear reading of what went wrong last time represents the most compelling case in the race.
Fifteen runners, four places paid at 1/5 odds. Each-way is the play.
Today’s NAP
Odds: 8/1 — Boyle Sports (others: 17/2 Betfred, 8/1 LiveScore Bet)
Top of the figures in a fillies handicap, dropping back from Listed company where she was simply outclassed, and returning to a surface and trip that suits. Mrs John Harrington’s yard has been in form across the past two weeks, Shane Foley is in the saddle, and 8/1 is a fair price for a filly the handicapper has not yet had to raise. The each-way terms with 11 runners make this the most appealing bet on the card.
