Ffos Las, Sunday 12 April 2026 | Good To Soft

Ffos Las, Sunday 12 April 2026 | Good To Soft

A Welsh Sunday card that rarely grabs the back pages, but good-to-soft ground at Ffos Las, a track that rewards jumping ability and genuine galloping types, creates some decent punting angles today. Three featured races across hurdles, with a proper maiden, a novice contest, and a competitive 13-runner handicap hurdle. The Grand National card was the headline act at Aintree yesterday, but for those who prefer a quieter bet with form to work on, Ffos Las delivers.

2:38 Amroth Bay Static Caravan Sales Maiden Hurdle (2m4f)

Selection: Knead A Win at 13/8 William Hill

The market has this one right in terms of the shortlist, but the framing is slightly off. Knead A Win at 13/8 (William Hill) is the play here, and the price makes more appeal than Doujadou at 5/2 despite the latter's stronger RPR. The reasoning is straightforward: Knead A Win has placed on all three starts since that early debut run-out, he front-runs with confidence, and crucially, all three placed efforts came on testing ground. Good to soft today is actually a slight step up in terms of racing comfort for him, not a step down.

The Spotlight raises a valid concern about the move away from softer ground, but good to soft at Ffos Las in April plays on the cut side, and this horse has shown a racing attitude that holds up on varying surfaces. Tongue-tied when last seen stepping up to this exact 2m4f trip at Chepstow, he shaped with plenty of credit. Sam Thomas has no 14-day stats to quote, but this is not a yard that runs horses for exercise.

Doujadou is hard to ignore at 5/2 and Rebecca Curtis knows this track well, but his Newbury run suggested he slightly regressed from his Chepstow effort, and 5/2 for an unexposed hurdler who hasn't yet reproduced his debut form feels short. Into The Blue is the fascinating newcomer in Nicky Henderson's corner, de Boinville on board and pedigree that screams jumper, but debut hurdlers at 4/1 in 11-runner maidens are not where you build a profit. Take the placed form and the confirmed ability of Knead A Win.

3:13 Paned At 3A's Novices' Hurdle (2m)

Selection: Cinquenta at 8/13 Bet365

Cinquenta is a short price, but the form justifies it. Jamie Snowden's gelding has been the model of consistency, winning at Market Rasen on good to soft and running a solid sixth in a valuable novice handicap at Sandown. The drop from 2m4f back to 2m here looks a positive move rather than a negative one. His form profile screams of a horse who does what's asked without flashiness, which is exactly what you want on a consistent betting surface.

The main value interest at bigger odds is Bebe And Bean at 7/1 (Bet365) for Olly Murphy, who fires at a strong 8/34 strike rate over 14 days. This gelding ran two near-identical bumper efforts for Nicholls, finishing fifth both times, but the form has been given context since and the switch to Murphy is intriguing. He's been off the track for a while, so there is an element of trust required, but Murphy rarely runs first-time-out hurdlers without a strong expectation of a decent showing.

At 13 runners with an each-way option, Bebe And Bean Each-Way at 7/1 is the value alternative if you want a punting angle in this race rather than laying out even money on the favourite. For those wanting a win bet, Cinquenta is a confident selection.

3:50 Tommy Williams Memorial Handicap Hurdle (2m4f, 13 runners)

Selection: Manigod Each-Way at 9/2 Bet365 / William Hill

Thirteen runners, a proper handicap, and a horse who has done nothing wrong in his hurdling career to date. Manigod was runner-up three times before winning convincingly on handicap debut at Ludlow (2m5f, soft) in February, putting in more than 4 lengths on his rivals. He steps up in the weights by 7lb here, which is the obvious concern, but Warren Greatrex's yard is cold at 0/15 over 14 days, so this is a case of trusting the horse's ability over the trainer's current form. The angle is simple: a young progressive handicapper whose entire profile suits this ground and this distance, at a price that still represents value given his winning run.

Fresh Speculation deserves a mention. Two wins this season and a course-and-distance win on soft is strong form, but the Spotlight specifically flags that today's quicker ground (relative to his heavy-ground C&D effort) could blunt his effectiveness. At 8/1 there are more appealing shapes in the race.

Milldam at 9/1 is the big-race player if he's firing. The Windsor fifth in a valuable race reads well and Gavin Sheehan is a confident booking, but "big player if on song" is exactly the phrase that means you can't fully trust him each-way at this price over a trip he's not yet proven at.

Manigod each-way at 9/2 covers four places at 1/5 odds with 13 runners. That is a sound each-way structure and the horse has the profile of a handicapper who is still improving.

Today's NAP

Knead A Win โ€” 2:38 Amroth Bay Static Caravan Sales Maiden Hurdle
Odds: 13/8 โ€” William Hill (others: 7/4 Bet365, 2.86 Betfair Exchange)

Three placed efforts from three starts since his debut mishap, progressive form over this exact trip, and an RPR of 128 that puts him clear of most in this field. Good to soft at Ffos Las is not the concern the Spotlight implies for a horse who has placed on all ground he has encountered. The price is fair, the form is solid, and at a track where front-runners who travel well get rewarded, Knead A Win looks the standout of the card.
