Ffos Las, Monday 29 June 2026: Tips & Analysis

A seven-race card at Ffos Las on good ground under cloudy skies. The Welsh track suits horses that travel through their races on a sound surface, and the three races featured here each have a clear standout angle. George Boughey’s remarkable 40% strike rate at this course is the headline stat of the day, and it shapes how you should approach the card.

2:22 Dandara EBF Novice Stakes (6f, 2yo)

Selection: This Moment (4/5, Boyle Sports / Betfred)

The favourite, yes, but the case is compelling and it starts with the trainer. George Boughey is operating at a 40% win rate at Ffos Las and has sent out seven winners from his last 27 runners over the past fortnight. That is a yard absolutely firing on all cylinders.

This Moment was unfairly beaten at Chester last time. He went too keenly on a tight, turning track, led too soon, and paid for it late. Strip out that run and you have a juvenile who clearly has ability, handles 6f on good ground, and now gets a conventional track where he can race more kindly. The form book comment from Chester is littered with excuses that are entirely understandable, not convenient. Billy Loughnane takes the ride, and while his Ffos Las numbers are modest, he is in the right hands here.

Rogue Imperial is the main danger at 3/1 and represents the benchmark on figures, having stepped up from debut to third at Lingfield. But the market has drifted him slightly and Boughey’s horses at this course simply do not get beaten at odds-on without good reason. Back This Moment to win only given the price.

3:22 Diplomat Hotel Handicap (5f, 5 runners)

Selection: Zighy (6/4, Boyle Sports / Betfred)

Another Boughey runner, another strong case. Zighy is a progressive three-year-old filly who has won twice in her last five starts. Her last run was not a bad one either, she just hit the front too soon and got caught close home. That is a tactical error, not a form collapse, and it is correctable.

Back at the minimum trip of 5f, which is clearly her best distance, on good ground which she acts on, Zighy has the form to be competitive off a mark that has barely moved. With Boughey in such fine trim at this track and Billy Loughnane again taking the ride, she is entitled to be favourite and should be respected at the price.

Comic Strip at 10/3 is interesting on the drop back to 5f, and he goes from stall 1, but he is rated third on the card’s own figures. All Ways Glamorous is the top-rated runner, but the trainer has sent out zero winners from three recent runners and the horse has a below-par run to bounce back from. Zighy is the play.

4:52 Plan A Restricted Maiden Stakes (1m2f, 5 runners)

Selection: Round The Table (8/13, Boyle Sports)

Short price, but this is a thin five-runner maiden and Round The Table is the right one to be on. His debut at Newbury was encouraging: beaten four lengths but doing plenty right for a horse learning on the job over what is exactly today’s trip on comparable ground. Tom Clover’s stable is ticking along steadily, and the step into a less demanding contest than Newbury is significant.

Marquessofanglesey is a genuine danger at 6/4, having been beaten by a whisker at Wolverhampton. The concern is that his form is all on the all-weather, and the turf switch on good ground is a legitimate unknown. Parc Dosne at 10/1 is worth a small each-way interest given his debut at Lingfield came on soft ground that clearly did not suit, and today’s better surface could unlock improvement. But Round The Table heads the market for good reason and the odds, while short, reflect a legitimate talent stepping down in grade.

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksThis Moment โ€” Dandara EBF Novice Stakes (2:22, Ffos Las)
Odds: 4/5 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 4/5 Betfred, 6/5 LiveScore Bet)

The Chester run reads poorly on paper but the context is everything: a tight track, a keen juvenile, a false pace, and a wide draw. George Boughey wins at 40% at Ffos Las and his yard has hit seven winners in the last 27 runners. A conventional track, 6f on good ground, and a trainer who knows how to place his horses. This Moment is the bet of the day.
