A six-race card at the Welsh track today, and while the going remains unconfirmed at time of writing, Ffos Las tends to dry out quickly in summer and the surface will be worth checking before betting. Three races to focus on, with some decent angles available if you know where to look. The jockey stats here are worth respecting: Rossa Ryan’s 25% strike rate and A/E of 1.29 at this track is the standout number on the card, and he rides in two of our featured races.

Five runners, which kills the each-way market dead. Two places at 1/4 odds in a field this small is not a bet worth splitting.

The market says Jaan Ki Tukri at 4/9, trained by Clive Cox who has been in solid form with four winners from 24 runners over the last fortnight. Rossa Ryan takes the ride, and his 25% course win rate with an A/E of 1.29 is the best number on the jockey board today. The form reads 3-2-2-9, which tells a story of consistent placing before something went wrong last time. At 4/9 you are not getting paid to take that risk.

The better play at a price is Sole Ambition at 11/4 with Boyle Sports. Ed Walker sends him out with Kieran Shoemark aboard. Walker posts 17% at Ffos Las from 80 runners and Shoemark is running at 18% here with an A/E of 1.10. This is a debutant, so there are no form figures to lean on, but Walker does not send unexposed two-year-olds to Ffos Las as filling exercises. The yard is in decent shape with seven winners from 43 runners over the past fortnight. At 11/4 in a five-runner maiden where the jolly has a dodgy last run on the card, Sole Ambition offers the value angle.

Star Velocity at 4/6 is trained by Ralph Beckett, who is operating at a remarkable 14 winners from 56 runners over the last fortnight. Rossa Ryan takes the ride again, and with a form figure of 3 on debut, there is clearly ability there. Beckett loads horses with class and Ryan’s course stats speak for themselves. This is the likely winner.

The interest at a price is Queen Sana at 11/4 with Boyle Sports and Betfred. Trained by Ollie Sangster, who holds a 30% win rate at this exact track from 10 runners, an A/E of 1.04 showing the price is usually fair. Kieran Shoemark rides, another strong course jockey. The form reads 3-0-2-2-2-6, which is consistent placing without winning, but Sangster’s yard record here cannot be ignored. Seven runners is still a small enough field that each-way is not the play, but Queen Sana at 11/4 against a 4/6 shot who also hasn’t won is a perfectly reasonable alternative if you want to take on the favourite.

Star Velocity to win at 4/6 is the call, with Beckett’s current form making this look well above a routine maiden on paper.

The form comment on Tokyo Joe is the most compelling on the card. A winner three starts back, a runner-up four starts back, and the form figures of 8-2-1-6-4 tell you a horse who knows how to compete. Ed Walker trains again, and his Ffos Las record of 17% from 80 runners is consistent and reliable. Kieran Shoemark takes the ride. Tokyo Joe is second of nine on the Spotlight figures and goes at evens across the board. Evens in a nine-runner handicap with this form profile is fair money, not generous money, but it is the most solid bet on the card.

Counting Cards Each-Way at 8/1 with Boyle Sports or 17/2 with Betfred is the each-way play in this race. Third of nine on figures, runner-up five starts back, and proven over the trip. The 57-day absence is flagged as a concern, but Ed de Giles sometimes brings them back fresh and ready. At 8/1 in a competitive nine-runner handicap, you are getting properly paid to take the risk each-way, with three places on offer at 1/5 the odds.

Mayberry Moon at 9/2 with Thomas Faulkner posting 3 from 9 over the last fortnight is also worth a mention. Hood going on, proven over the trip, fourth of nine on figures. Not the standout bet but not to be dismissed at that price either.
