A seven-race card at Ffos Las on good ground, and the Welsh track throws up some genuinely interesting angles if you know where to look. William Haggas boasts a remarkable 46% strike rate here, and Rossa Ryan is the course’s standout jockey with a 28% win rate and a positive A/E of 1.32. Keep both in mind as we work through the card.

2:30 — Happy 70th Birthday Brian Glanville Handicap Stakes (6f, Good)

A seven-runner sprint handicap and the race that draws the eye first. Small enough field that each-way is less appealing, but the form dissection here matters more than the punt structure.

Safari Dream is the selection at 9/4 (Boyle Sports, Betfred) or 2/1 (LiveScore Bet). Rod Millman’s yard has been flying recently, posting a 7/19 record over the last 14 days, and Safari Dream arrives off a 20-day turnaround in solid condition. Top-rated in the field at 82, he was third last time and won four starts back. He has form over this trip and on this going. Oisin Murphy gets the leg up, and while Murphy’s overall course A/E of 0.89 is neutral, he rides the pick of the book here. Draw one is the only mild concern in a sprint, but the talent is clear.

Newsreader at 3/1 with Rossa Ryan aboard is the obvious danger. Ryan’s course record is exceptional, and 3/1 is a fair reflection of the threat. That said, Newsreader has been winless in recent starts and needs to rediscover something from a few runs back. Safari Dream is preferred.

3:00 — EBF Novice Stakes (7½f, Good)

Seven two-year-olds over seven and a half furlongs, and two horses dominate the market from very different angles.

Perfect Nation is the 5/4 favourite trained by George Boughey, who has a superb 39% win rate at Ffos Las with an A/E of 1.66. That is a trainer who consistently overperforms here, and his recent 14-day record of 6/28 shows the yard is active. Perfect Nation has form figures of 2-1, placed on debut then winning, and Billy Loughnane takes the ride. Loughnane knows this track. At 5/4 it is a short price, but Boughey’s edge at this venue is real and the form is there.

Avionics at 5/2 (Boyle Sports) is the main threat. Andrew Balding sends him here with form of 4-2, so he has been knocking on the door. Balding’s strike rate at Ffos Las sits at 22%, respectable but not at the Boughey level. The price makes Avionics each-way interesting in a larger field context, but with only seven runners and two places on offer, the value calculation is tighter.

Eight runners over a mile, and this one comes down to a straight fight between three realistic contenders at the top of the market.

Flagbearer Each-Way at 7/4 (Boyle Sports, Betfred) is trained by William Haggas, who has posted a staggering 46% win rate at Ffos Las with an A/E of 1.3. That number does not lie. Tom Marquand takes the ride on a debutant with no public form to dissect, but when Haggas sends a horse to Ffos Las, the record says pay attention. The 7/4 price already reflects market confidence, but the course stats give this extra weight.

Wootz at 9/4 (Boyle Sports) or 2/1 (Betfred) represents Roger Varian’s entry, and Varian’s Ffos Las record is a more modest 26% with an A/E of 0.72, suggesting horses from that yard slightly underperform at this track relative to their price. That is a subtle but useful angle against taking him at this price.

Arbaawy at 6/4 (Boyle Sports) comes from John Butler’s yard, which has an 19% strike rate here, and Billy Loughnane gets on. The form string of -43340 shows plenty of placed efforts without winning, and at 6/4 that recent record is not compelling.

Haggas’s course dominance gives Flagbearer the edge. Back each-way at 7/4, three places at 1/5 odds.
