Ffos Las, Friday 21 August 2026: Tips and Selections
A six-race card at Ffos Las on good ground, with three featured contests worth dissecting. The Welsh track rewards horses that have course experience and jockeys who know the place. Two of the most interesting angles today come from jockeys who punch above their weight here: Millie Wonnacott clips along at an A/E of 1.73 at this track, and Joe Leavy at 1.17 makes him worth following whenever he turns up. Keep that in mind as we work through the card.
3:20 โ Ascona Ladies In Lace Maiden Stakes (7ยฝf, Good)
Three runners, shortest field of the day, and Korbut at 4/9 is being asked to do something she has singularly failed to do in six career starts: win. The form reads 252222, which tells you everything. She is a serial bridesmaid, and Sir Mark Prescott knows how to place horses to win, but even he cannot force a filly who keeps finding one too good. Prescott’s 14-day stats show 4/22, which is ticking along without setting pulses racing.
Selection: Reader at 10/3 (Boyle Sports / Betfred / LiveScore Bet). Three outings, form reads 28-3. She has done nothing wrong, the gap in her form suggests she has been managed carefully by Marcus Tregoning, and the yard is live with 1/6 in the last 14 days at a very small sample. Jack Doughty rides, and his 15% strike rate at Ffos Las with an A/E of 1.04 suggests he does his job here without wasting rides. At 10/3 in a three-runner maiden where the odds-on shot cannot win, Reader is the value play. Korbut’s relentless placed efforts suggest she will fill the frame again, not the winner’s enclosure.
2:10 โ Ascona Ladies Fuelled By Fashion Handicap Stakes (6f, Good)
Six runners over six furlongs on good ground. This is a tight little sprint handicap and the form study throws up two genuinely in-form horses at the top of the market, with a potential each-way angle lurking at bigger odds.
Selection: Sixtygeesbaby at evens (Boyle Sports / Betfred / LiveScore Bet). Won last time out, returns on ten days’ rest, already knows this trip and conditions, and sits top of the ratings at 78. David O’Meara’s yard has sent out 8 winners from 52 runners in the last 14 days, which is a healthy 15% clip and tells you the operation is firing. Luke Morris gets the leg up, and while his A/E at Ffos Las sits at 0.88, he is on the form horse here. The comment on his patchy recent runs outside of wins is a fair caution, but a fresh win under the belt, course familiarity, and the top yard in form makes this hard to oppose at the top of the market.
Each-Way Angle: Army Bugler Each-Way at 16/1 (Boyle Sports / Betfred). Rated 78 on the assessor’s book, which puts him level with the favourite on paper. Warren Greatrex has found a winner from 10 runners in the last fortnight, and Harry Vigors gets the chance to exploit that big price. Two poor runs before this, yes, but the figures suggest he has more ability than those efforts showed. At 16/1 with two places paid, a pound each-way is the sensible play rather than backing him to win outright.
2:45 โ Ascona Ladies Chic Fashion Handicap Stakes (7ยฝf, Good)
Seven runners over the seven-and-a-half furlong trip, and the market has made Oviedo a short favourite at 8/13. On paper, that is understandable. He won last time out, knows the trip and going, carries the lowest weight in the field at 129lb, and Alexandra Dunn is 1/1 in the last 14 days, which is a perfect record even from a single runner. Millie Wonnacott in the saddle is the kicker: her A/E of 1.73 at Ffos Las is extraordinary and marks her out as someone who really delivers at this track. Oviedo at 8/13 is too short for a bet in a seven-runner handicap, but he is the form horse and hard to knock off the top spot.
Selection: Kaleidoscope Eyes Each-Way at 11/2 (Boyle Sports). Won last time out, has run over this trip and going before, and carries a manageable 133lb. Bernard Llewellyn has struggled recently with 0/7 in 14 days, but the horse’s own form does the talking here: a winner last time, handicapped to a competitive mark, and drawn in stall four which gives Robbie Downey options. At 11/2 each-way with two places paid at 1/4 odds, she represents genuine value against an odds-on jolly who may well win but offers no betting interest.
Cypriot Diaspora at 4/1 is consistent without being a winner, and Rod Millman’s last 14-day record reads 0/19 at the moment, which is not the yard to be backing at short prices. Leave her alone.
Today’s NAP
Odds: Evens โ Boyle Sports (others: Evens Betfred, Evens LiveScore Bet)
Top-rated horse in the field, winner last time out, returning on ten days’ rest to a trip and going he already handles. David O’Meara’s yard is in a purple patch with 8 winners from 52 in the last fortnight, and evens about the best horse in a six-runner sprint is a fair price, not a skinny one. On any other day this season that form entitles him to start at shorter.
