McIlroy and Kim Lead After Round 1
Rory McIlroy and Tom Kim sit joint atop the Genesis Scottish Open leaderboard at nine under par after 18 holes at The Renaissance Club. McIlroy’s four-under round of 65 puts him in familiar territory: leading a Scottish event ahead of the Open Championship. Kim matched that score to share the summit. Jordan Smith lurks just one shot back on nine under, carding a brilliant seven-under 68 to keep himself very much in the conversation.
The top of this leaderboard is bunched tight. Seven players stand within two shots of the lead heading into Round 2, with Chris Gotterup, Matt Fitzpatrick and Min Woo Lee all eight under par. This is shaping up to be a proper scrap.

Who’s in Contention
Rory McIlroy stands alone as favourite at 3.75/1 with bet365. Matt Fitzpatrick sits on eight under at 14/1. The Englishman is just one shot off the pace and has the technical game to thrive on a layout that demands precision over aggression. Fitzpatrick’s opening 67 suggests he’s hitting fairways and leaving himself manageable second shots, the blueprint for success here.
Min Woo Lee and Robert MacIntyre round out the Scottish interest on eight and seven under respectively. Lee at 22/1 is a live wire. MacIntyre, also at 22/1, has home course knowledge but will need a sharper second round to press McIlroy and Kim.
Round 2 Betting Angles
McIlroy and Kim will face early pressure from Fitzpatrick and Gotterup, who sit just one stroke back. Watch for either man to post a low number on Saturday and crank the tension up on the leaders. Gotterup at 33/1 is worth monitoring if he continues posting sub-par rounds.
The Renaissance Club rewards accuracy and patience. Expect the cut to fall around two or three under par. That means several players currently in the field will tumble out. Players outside the top 15 will need birdie-making rounds to survive and stay competitive heading into the weekend.
McIlroy’s draw in Round 2 looks manageable. If he posts another four or five under, the title race could be effectively over. Kim and Fitzpatrick must match or better his output to keep pace. That’s the dynamic heading into Saturday.
