Survival Stakes at Montilivi
Two teams scrapping at the wrong end of La Liga, separated by just three points, meeting on a Friday night with relegation breathing down both their necks. Girona vs Mallorca isn't pretty football, but it's exactly the kind of fixture where the betting angles are sharpest.
Girona are 15th with 38 points and Michel's side have been leaking badly. Three losses in their last four league games, conceding seven goals across that stretch. The draw at Real Madrid looked like a turning point, but they then went and shipped three to Real Betis at Montilivi before losing to Valencia on the road. Home form has been patchy too: W6 D4 L6 at Estadi Municipal de Montilivi tells you this isn't a fortress.
The injury list makes it worse. V. Tsygankov has been one of their most direct threats all season, six goals and four assists from midfield, and he's out. Abel Ruiz, who leads the line when Vanat needs support, is also missing. Goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga is unavailable too, meaning Michel is patching together both ends of the pitch.
Mallorca's Problems Are Just as Serious
Demichelis has overseen some wild swings in form. That 3-0 win over Rayo Vallecano looks great on paper. So does beating Real Madrid 2-1 at home. But Mallorca are W1 D3 L12 on the road this season, and they've lost their two most recent away games. This is a team that simply does not travel well.
More critically, Vedat Muriqi is out. He has 21 goals in 32 appearances in the 2025/26 season. Twenty-one. He is essentially half of Mallorca's attacking output. Without him, and without Samuel Costa and Manuel Morlanes in midfield, Demichelis is missing key pieces all over the pitch. Mallorca scored eight times in their last five games with those players available. The question is how many they score without them.
At 17th with 35 points, they're only three points from the drop zone and a loss here could turn a nervous run-in into a genuine crisis.
Head-to-Head and the Betting Angle
Girona have won the last two meetings in this fixture. Back in January 2026, they won 2-1 at Mallorca's ground. Before that, they took a 1-0 win at Montilivi in May 2025. The head-to-head over the last five goes: three wins for Mallorca, two for Girona, but the recent momentum is clearly with the home side.
Mallorca's away form is genuinely one of the worst in the division. One win on the road all season, and that was against sides they were expected to beat. Coming to Girona, who despite their inconsistency still have that home advantage and play with more intensity at Montilivi, is a tough ask even when fully fit. Without Muriqi leading the line, it becomes very hard to see where their goal comes from.
Girona aren't in great nick either, but this is a game they need to win and Mallorca arriving without their main striker is a genuine edge. Michel will set up to exploit it. At 2.12, backing Girona to win isn't a love bet, it's backed up by the H2H trend, the head-to-head venue record, and Mallorca's abysmal travel record combined with their injury problems up top.
The Over 2.5 goals market at 1.88 is tempting given both teams' recent form defensively, but both squads are missing players who create chances. The under at 2.07 is arguably just as interesting. The value, though, is on the home win.
Odds: 2.12 โ Pinnacle
Mallorca arrive without Muriqi, their 21-goal striker, plus Costa and Morlanes in midfield. Their away record this season is W1 D3 L12. Girona have won the last two meetings between these sides and need the points just as badly, with the crowd behind them at Montilivi. The home win at 2.12 carries real value given the circumstances.
