Goodwood Tips: Saturday 2 May 2026

Goodwood in early May on good ground is always a proper test of quality. The track rewards horses that travel well and handle the undulations, and today's eight-race card has a nice blend of Listed class and competitive handicaps. There is plenty to work with across the card. Let's get into it.

1:30 โ€” Fitzdares Chelmer Fillies' Stakes (Listed, 6f)

The form horse here is Fitzella, who carries an RPR of 116 and a TS of 104 that dwarfs most of this field. Hugo Palmer has only had one winner from eleven runners in the past fortnight, but this filly's raw figures make her hard to oppose at 9/4 with Bet365. The 4125-5 form string looks messy but that Listed fifth last time was likely a price-of-racing defeat against stronger. She handles good ground and six furlongs suits. Straightforward short-priced selection, but the value is not here.

The each-way angle goes to Hassaleh Each-Way at 4/1 with PricedUp Bet. Charlie Appleby's operation rarely pitches up with a filly carrying just two runs (3-1 form) unless they believe she is capable, and that debut third followed by a winning performance tells a story. The RPR of 101 looks assessable but there is almost certainly more to come. Good ground is exactly what Appleby fillies tend to want. Three places at 1/5 makes this a workable each-way play.

Selection: Fitzella (win), Hassaleh (each-way)

12:55 โ€” Elston Supports UK Financial Advisers Restricted Maiden Stakes (1m)

Ciarrai Abu is the clear form pick here at 85/40 with Bet Victor. The Harry Eustace yard has had a quiet spell in terms of winners, but this gelding posted an RPR of 84 from only two starts and that 62- form suggests he is knocking on the door. The drop into a restricted maiden puts him firmly in the right company. Cieren Fallon takes the ride on Adalo for William Haggas, which is always worth noting, and Haggas has six winners from 28 runners in the past fortnight. A completely unexposed runner with Haggas and Fallon in a weak maiden screams potential.

The verdict: Adalo is the interesting one on the strength of connections alone, but Ciarrai Abu has the best visible form. Selection: Ciarrai Abu at 85/40 Bet Victor, with Adalo as the danger to side with in forecast markets.

2:05 โ€” Fitzdares Conqueror Fillies' Stakes (Listed, 1m)

Blue Bolt dominates this on form. An RPR of 121 and a TS of 116 are comfortably the best figures in the race, and that 11122- record shows she is a model of consistency at this level. Colin Keane partners her for Andrew Balding, whose yard has three winners from 32 runners recently. That strike rate is not spectacular, but this filly does not need the trainer to be in hot form. She makes her own case through sheer class.

The market has her odds-on at 10/11 Betfred, which is correct pricing. The each-way terms of two places at 1/4 in a six-runner field are not generous enough to recommend alternatives at these odds.

If you want to take her on, Shes Perfect at 7/1 with William Hill is the one. Charlie Fellowes has been firing at 3/11 recently, the RPR of 118 is solid, and that 3/229- form shows she goes well at this level. But Blue Bolt is the bet.

Selection: Blue Bolt at 10/11 Betfred.

2:45 โ€” Munro UK Equity Income Fund Handicap (2m)

St Mawes is the selection here at 7/2 with William Hill. Emma Lavelle knows her stayers, and this four-year-old's 40511- form contains that impressive recent win. The RPR of 92 with a TS of only 48 suggests there is a big gap between his ceiling and what the handicapper has seen. At seven runners, this is a proper each-way race with three places at 1/5 offered, but at 7/2 the win is the play.

Percy Shelley is fascinating on that 22222- record. James Owen is in exceptional form, ten winners from 44 runners in the last fortnight, and Cieren Fallon takes the ride. Five placed efforts in a row suggests a horse running consistently at the right level who eventually finds a soft enough opportunity. With the top-rated yard stats behind him, he is the biggest danger.

Arc Zoosve Each-Way at 9/2 with Bet365 deserves a mention too. The 412511 recent form is the best in the race, and good ground on a flat track suits a horse running freely in this trip. Could outrun the price each-way.

Selection: St Mawes at 7/2 William Hill.

3:20 โ€” Highclere Castle Gin Handicap (5f)

Tiger Tulip is the call here at 3/1 with Bet365. Heather Main has one winner from five runners in recent weeks, which is a decent strike rate for a smaller yard, and Cieren Fallon continues his busy day in the saddle. The 55402- form might look soft, but that second last time shows she has sharpened up, and five furlongs on good ground is her optimum combination. The RPR of 85 matches the top of this field.

Richard Hughes has had a torrid run with zero winners from 23 runners recently, so The Thames Boatman's market position at 7/2 is not attractive despite the form figures. Tiger Tulip is preferred at a better price.

Spring Bloom at 17/2 William Hill catches the eye following that encouraging second at Leicester for his new yard. The Spotlight note confirms he shaped well, and while a 3lb penalty is a hurdle, John Butler has two recent winners and the horse is clearly revitalised by the stable change.

Selection: Tiger Tulip at 3/1 Bet365.

4:00 โ€” Listen To Track Radio Next Week Handicap (1m2f, 11 runners)

Yabher Each-Way is the most compelling play of the day at 5/2 with Bet365. William Haggas sits at six winners from 28 runners in recent weeks, Cieren Fallon partners for the third time on the card, and the 92101- form line shows a horse that has progressed steadily to win last time out. An RPR of 112 with a TS of 97 confirms he is travelling with the pace and finishing his races. Dropping into a handicap off a winning mark with Haggas and Fallon is the model angle in British flat racing.

The horse is technically a short price for a handicap, but the 11-runner field means three places at 1/5, making each-way coverage sensible at 5/2.

Love Beach at 7/2 Bet365 is the danger. James Fanshawe has five winners from 21 runners recently and this four-year-old won last time out with a TS of 94. The two horses could fight out the finish.

Selection: Yabher each-way at 5/2 Bet365.

4:30 โ€” Fitzdares Offers Bespoke Bets Handicap (1m, 14 runners)

Law Court Each-Way at 7/2 with Bet Victor makes considerable appeal. Richard Hannon has six winners from 49 runners recently, a healthy strike rate for a yard of that size, and this three-year-old's 43-2 form shows genuine progression. The TS of 74 gives a solid baseline and the RPR of 82 leaves room to improve under a handicap mark. Fourteen runners means four places at 1/5, which is outstanding each-way value for anything at 7/2 or bigger with claims.

Mohaaraj at 7/2 William Hill is the other standout. The 4-1 form shows a horse that has only improved with experience, and while Richard Hughes's yard stats are poor right now, the raw form of a winner second time out commands respect. This is a tight race between those two.

Northern Empire for Ed Walker is worth a watch. Walker has six winners from 22 recently and this colt's 42-10 form suggests a horse on the up. The 7/1 with William Hill is workable each-way at those terms too.

Selection: Law Court each-way at 7/2 Bet Victor.

Today's NAP

Yabher โ€” Listen To Track Radio Next Week Handicap (4:00, Goodwood)
Odds: 5/2 โ€” Bet365 (others: 5/2 William Hill, 4.2 Betfair Exchange)

Haggas and Fallon is about as strong a combination as British flat racing offers, and Yabher arrives here as a course-appropriate horse who won last time out with more in the tank. The RPR of 112 heads a competitive 11-runner field, good ground is ideal, and a horse stepping up from a win with this level of handling and form is exactly the profile that handicaps reward. The each-way insurance is sensible at 5/2 with three places available, but the win is the primary play.
