Goodwood, Sunday 7 June 2026: Full Card Tips

Soft ground at Goodwood on a cloudy Sunday in early June. The track rewards horses that travel sweetly through testing conditions, and today’s card spans a Listed stayer’s race, two pattern events, and a clutch of competitive handicaps. With the Monaco Grand Prix wrapping up this weekend providing some sporting backdrop, let’s get into the racing.

William Haggas runs two live shots today, and with a 19% strike rate at this course, his runners always command respect. Cieren Fallon posts an A/E of 1.2 here, meaning he genuinely beats the market at this venue. Keep him onside.

1:50 Rod Gaskin Garden Machinery Handicap (6f, Soft)

Selection: Toyotomi (3/1, Betfred / LiveScore Bet)

David O’Meara’s five-year-old ran a cracking race at Thirsk last week, finishing a good third despite meeting traffic and doing best of those drawn on the wrong side of the field. That form reads considerably better once you account for the positional disadvantage. Crucially, Toyotomi has significant soft-ground experience from his time in France. This is precisely the kind of horse that travel-hardened form-readers back at a double-figure equivalent, yet here he is at 3/1 after a close-up effort that was arguably unlucky. The going plays to his strengths and Daniel Tudhope is a smart operator in these conditions. Take him.

Solar Aclaim (4/1) is the each-way alternative, a confirmed soft-ground sprinter who gave encouragement at Epsom yesterday despite a troubled start. Four pounds below his last winning mark and Cieren Fallon in the plate. At 4/1 in a race where three places are paid, he merits a small saver.

2:25 British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes (6f, Soft)

Selection: Bulletsnap (11/4, Boyle Sports / Betfred)

William Haggas sends out Bulletsnap on debut and the yard’s 19% Goodwood strike rate, combined with a sharp 14-day record of 10 wins from 42 runners, makes this a serious contender regardless of the unknown factor. The dam is a French Listed-placed winner at up to 8.5f, and the foal cost 85,000 euros, which points to a well-bred, well-prepped juvenile. At 11/4, the market is already talking. The Harv for M D O’Callaghan arrives with big breeze-up credentials and Oisin Murphy booked, so the market move tells the story here. Bulletsnap at 11/4 is the value pick given the Haggas firepower. Watch the board.

3:00 Goodwood Horseracing Club Membership Selling Stakes (5f, Soft)

Selection: Leucothea (7/4, Boyle Sports / Betfred)

Richard Hannon’s yard has been in decent shape recently, and Oisin Murphy stepping in to ride Leucothea in selling company speaks volumes. She has run creditably in defeat in both starts, beaten favourite but not disgraced. The drop into this grade is significant, and 5f on soft ground suits a horse with proven pace. Undercover Affair (6/5) has the best form on paper but has never encountered slower than good ground. If the soft conditions blunt his edge, Leucothea at a bigger price becomes excellent value. Take her at 7/4.

3:35 Weatherbys/British EBF Agnes Keyser Fillies’ Stakes (Listed, 1m2f, Soft)

Selection: Rose Ghaiyyath (4/1, Boyle Sports / Betfred / LiveScore Bet)

Sacred Ground is the obvious favourite and probably deserves to be, but at 2/1 the price is short for a filly who has been placed in four consecutive Listed contests without winning one. Value lives elsewhere in this field. Rose Ghaiyyath won her debut on soft at Deauville last August and this step up to 1m2f looks ideal for a filly by Ghaiyyath who carries Group 1 entries in the Coronation Stakes and Irish Oaks. Her Guineas run reads much better in context once you strip out the unsuitably quick ground, and Richard Hughes has been in good nick with 3 wins from 24 over the past fortnight. At 4/1 on ground she has proven she handles, Rose Ghaiyyath offers genuine each-way appeal in a strong field.

Plaid Each-Way at 4/1 also deserves a mention. Four runs, four improvements, and an eight-length handicap win last time out. The step into Listed company is steep, but James Fanshawe fillies frequently improve sharply and she may not need top-level form to fill a place.

4:10 Billy Vigar Handicap (2m, Soft)

Selection: Maxident Each-Way (9/2, Betfred / 4/1 LiveScore Bet)

This is the race for Maxident. Kevin Philippart de Foy’s six-year-old goes well at Goodwood, loves testing ground as he proved at Ffos Las last September on his most recent start, and stays this trip comfortably. The only note of caution is that he hasn’t run since September, but a fresh horse with a soft-ground record and a sympathetic mark off a 3lb rise looks overpriced at 4/1. His trainer is 0 from 11 in the past 14 days, so the yard is quiet, which explains the price. That’s the angle. Maxident on soft ground at Goodwood two miles is a textbook course-and-conditions play.

Hermetic is the market leader at 11/8 with strong recent York form, and Alfred Boucher arrives a surprise winner last month. But it’s Maxident’s race on the ground.

4:45 Tapster Stakes (Listed, 1m4f, Soft)

Selection: Tenability (11/8, Boyle Sports / Betfred / 5/4 LiveScore Bet)

The market splits cleanly between two William Haggas horses and both deserve respect, but Tenability looks the sharper value. He beat a below-par Hamish at Ascot last year in a Group 3, then reappeared this April with a solid third in the Newbury Group 3. Four wins from last summer and a yard posting 12 winners from 47 in the past two weeks. Cieren Fallon, who carries an A/E of 1.2 at this track, takes the ride.

Hamish is a worthy rival at 13/8 and has won this exact race before, but he is a ten-year-old and Tenability is four. The trajectory clearly runs one way. Slightly bigger price on a horse going the right way in form at a course where his jockey thrives. Tenability is the call.

5:20 Elston Support Your Local Air Ambulance Handicap (7f, Soft)

Selection: Blue Prince (9/4, Boyle Sports / Betfred)

Strong course-and-distance form from Blue Prince, who has significant C&D entries to his name and returned to form with an encouraging third at Kempton on reappearance. The second half of 2025 was flat, but he dropped in the weights as a result and is now operating off a more realistic mark. Saffie Osborne gets the ride. Cherry Cobbler won well at Newmarket three weeks ago but carries an 8lb rise for that, and this soft ground is untested for him. Blue Prince has nothing like those questions to answer at 9/4. He’s the most straightforward call on the closer.

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksTenability โ€” Tapster Stakes (4:45, Goodwood)
Odds: 11/8 โ€” Boyle Sports / Betfred (others: 5/4 LiveScore Bet)

Four wins from four starts at Ascot last summer, beaten a nose by a below-par Hamish in a Group 3, and a sharp reappearance third at Newbury in April. William Haggas is in red-hot form with a 12/47 record over the past fortnight and 19% winners at Goodwood overall. Cieren Fallon rides at a course where his A/E tops 1.2. Tenability is the younger, improving horse in a two-horse market, and the soft ground poses no problems. The price is fair rather than generous, but the angle is sound. NAP of the day.
