Goodwood Tips: Friday 12 June 2026
Soft ground at Goodwood on a cloudy June evening. That changes the complexion of every race on this card, and anyone ignoring the going does so at their peril. The famous undulations here bite harder when the turf is giving, stamina counts for more, and horses with proven soft-ground form move well clear of those who merely handle a quick surface. Six races, plenty of angles. Let’s go through them.
5:32 โ Sir Eric Parker Memorial EBF Restricted Maiden Fillies Stakes (6f, Soft)
Selection: Tallahassee Lassie (10/3, Boyle Sports/Betfred)
This is a wide-open maiden with unraced fillies and one-run debutantes throughout, so trainer and jockey stats carry extra weight when form is thin. James Fanshawe posts a 16% strike rate at Goodwood from 273 runners, and crucially, his A/E of 1.04 tells you his runners run to their price rather than disappoint. More pertinently, Fanshawe is in a hot vein right now, 4 from 13 in the last 14 days. That is a yard firing hard.
In the saddle, Kaiya Fraser has a 23% win rate at this track from 13 rides and an A/E of 1.43. That combination of a switched-on trainer and a course specialist jockey is exactly the angle to follow in a race where most of these fillies are an unknown quantity.
Rollthedicebaby is the market leader at evens for Hannon, and the stable is running well, but favourite-backing in a soft-ground maiden with eight runners of limited form is a mug’s game. Tallahassee Lassie at 10/3 with Fanshawe and Fraser is the value call.
6:04 โ Fitzdares Telephone and Text Betting Handicap (1m2f, Soft)
Selection: Lavender Gold (10/3, Boyle Sports/Betfred)
David Menuisier is the man at Goodwood. A 19% strike rate from 136 runners and an A/E of 1.5 is the standout course trainer stat on the card. That 1.5 figure is telling you his runners consistently outperform their market price at this track. Lavender Gold’s form reads 7323-7 on the face of it, but keep in mind this is soft ground on a testing track. Menuisier’s three-year-olds often need their first couple of runs and then improve sharply once conditions suit.
Three Socks On is the 5/2 favourite for Roger Teal, but the trainer has returned 0 from 15 in the last 14 days. That is a yard in a rut, and you want nothing to do with them at odds-against. Hove Ranger at 4/1 is interesting on a two-race winning streak, but Gary and Josh Moore are 2 from 23 in the same period. The Menuisier angle is the strongest logical thread through this race.
6:39 โ Highclere Castle Gin Handicap (1m6f, Soft)
Selection: Maasai Mara Each-Way (6/1, Boyle Sports/Betfred)
John O’Shea wins at 17% here with an A/E of 1.69, the single best A/E of any trainer in the course stats provided. William Carson partners Maasai Mara, and at a mile and six furlongs on soft ground, stamina is at a premium. The 78/402 form line includes a recent placed effort and a win, suggesting this horse is capable at this level when conditions are right. Soft ground over a staying trip at Goodwood is exactly the scenario where O’Shea’s runners punch above their weight.
Cruden is the 11/4 market leader but comes from a trainer with no recent form. Mr Freedom is the other fancied runner and comes in off a third last time, but the Sheena West yard has had minimal ammunition lately. At 6/1, Maasai Mara with an in-form trainer who thrives at this course represents genuine each-way appeal in an eight-runner staying handicap.
7:14 โ Fitzdares Fillies Handicap (6f, Soft)
Selection: Double Naughty (15/8, Boyle Sports)
The form figure that stands out in this race is Double Naughty’s 9433-1. A winner last time out, holding a competitive handicap mark before the assessor has had a chance to raise her too far. At 15/8 she is the market favourite, and while this column generally avoids short-priced selections, a recent winner running off potentially a lenient mark in soft ground deserves respect. Joe Tickle’s yard has not been firing in the last fortnight on paper, but one winner can make statistics look misleading over a small sample.
Tashi Delek is worth noting at 9/2 for the Fanshawe and Kaiya Fraser combination, and the 02-85 form does not scream confidence. Overbudget at 9/2 ran two consecutive seconds before fading. The straight selection here is Double Naughty, but those wanting a second string should look to Bundok at 13/2 for Hughie Morrison, whose yard is 2 from 9 in the last fortnight.
7:49 โ Casamigos Handicap (5f, Soft)
Selection: Comic Strip (9/4, Boyle Sports/Betfred)
Only five runners here and the each-way terms drop to two places at quarter odds, so this is effectively a win bet scenario. Comic Strip’s form reads 12-375, which includes a win and a placed effort, and at 9/4 the price is fair for a horse with proven ability at this level. The concern is Simon and Ed Crisford returning 0 from 20 in the last 14 days, which is a significant red flag for any punter.
Wedonttelllies at 11/8 is the market leader for Richard Hughes, who is 4 from 23 in the same period, a more respectable recent record. Saffron Dandy at 5/1 for Richard Hannon, who is running very well at present across both stables, is the each-way interest if you want to side against the principals, with Joe Leavy aboard to add course-jockey value.
8:24 โ Download The Track Radio App Amateur Jockeys Handicap (1m, Soft)
Selection: Talis Evolvere Each-Way (6/1, Boyle Sports/Betfred)
Amateur jockeys races are unpredictable by nature, and the soft ground over a mile adds another layer of uncertainty. Desperate Dan is 6/4 favourite for Peter Chapple-Hyam, and the 6141 recent form is solid, but the last run was a nine and amateur riders can amplify inconsistency. Richard Hannon’s yard is in tremendous nick right now, and Talis Evolvere is carrying the colours from a stable with 12 winners from 51 runs in the past fortnight. The 252808 form shows a horse that stays in the mix without always firing. At 6/1 each-way in a three-place market, there is value if this one bounces back to its better efforts on a soft surface that should not inconvenience it.
Eupator at 9/2 is the other Hannon runner and ran a promising third earlier in the form string. If forced to split the pair, Talis Evolvere’s consistent placing record edges it, but both are worth noting.
Today’s NAP
Odds: 10/3 โ Boyle Sports (others: 10/3 Betfred, 3/1 LiveScore Bet)
David Menuisier at Goodwood is a combination that simply keeps on producing. A 19% strike rate with an A/E of 1.5 means his runners routinely outperform market expectations at this track, and Lavender Gold fits the mould of a three-year-old improving into soft ground. The market is making the Teal runner favourite despite that yard being completely out of form in recent weeks. Menuisier’s horses at Goodwood on soft going represent the most reliable course-and-conditions angle on the whole card, and 10/3 is a generous price for what should be a well-prepared, track-suited runner.
