Goodwood, Friday 19 June 2026: Full Card Tips

A six-race evening card at one of Britain’s finest tracks, with good ground that should suit horses with any kind of class. The undulations at Goodwood always catch out flattered form lines, and the mile-and-a-half trips dominate the middle of the card. David Menuisier’s 20% strike rate at this track is worth holding onto throughout the night, and Joe Leavy’s course record here is quietly excellent at 16% with a A/E of 1.28. Horses for courses, trainers for courses, and good going for horses with a turn of foot. Let’s get into it.

5:45 โ€” British EBF Maiden Stakes (5f, Good)

A small-field juvenile maiden but not a straightforward one. Only two runners have seen a racecourse, and with five furlongs on good ground at Goodwood, pace and natural ability count for everything at this stage.

Cut And Sew is the selection at 11/4 (Boyle Sports, LiveScore Bet). Ed Walker’s yard has been going well with 6 wins from 40 runners in the last 14 days, and a debutante filly by a speed influence getting a 5lb weight allowance off the colts is a genuine edge in a race like this. Goodwood’s five-furlong track is sharp and tests a horse’s natural speed from the gates. Walker regularly sends well-prepared juveniles into maiden company at decent tracks without over-racing them first. This filly is shorter than the debutante colts around her for a reason.

If you want each-way cover on the opener, Jaijai at 13/8 (Boyle Sports, Betfred) has racecourse experience and ran into a winner on debut. The Hannon yard is plugging away (6/57 in the last fortnight) and Joe Leavy’s Goodwood record speaks for itself.

6:20 โ€” Fitzdares Handicap (1m4f, Good)

Eight runners, three places on offer, and a market dominated by the Richard Hughes-trained Boilermaker at 7/4. A consistent sort, but 7/4 in an eight-runner 3yo handicap on a Friday evening is a short price to follow without a convincing last-time-out win behind you. That form line of 777-42 shows a horse getting competitive, but does it show a winner?

The value angle is Celestarak Each-Way at 16/1 (Boyle Sports, Betfred). David Menuisier’s Goodwood record is exceptional: 20% strike rate, A/E of 1.53. That means his horses at this track return more than they should at SP. Jack Doughty rides, and his 15% Goodwood win rate is respectable. Celestarak’s form of 580-9 is messy, but the step back to Goodwood for Menuisier, with a light weight and three places to aim at, makes this an obvious each-way play at double-figure odds. 3 places at 1/5 odds.

Darn Hot Dame at 3/1 (Boyle Sports, Betfred) is the alternative if you want a more conventional each-way shot. Five runs this season, consistent placings, and progressive form. Daniel Muscutt keeps the ride, which is a positive sign from Tom Ward’s camp.

6:55 โ€” Goodwood Horseracing Club Handicap (1m4f, Good)

Seven runners, a short-priced market, and a fascinating battle between handicap regulars. Galaxy Wonder catches the eye at 11/4 (Boyle Sports) to 5/2 (Betfred, LiveScore Bet). Tony Carroll’s yard has been firing on all cylinders with 13 winners from 61 runners in the past fortnight, one of the hottest strike rates in the country right now. The gelding’s form of 231122 is a model of consistency: placed or winning in five of his last six. Good ground suits, the trip is right, and 5/2 with Betfred for a horse trained by a yard in this form is fair value.

The other angle worth considering is Analogical at 11/4 (Boyle Sports) to 5/2 (LiveScore Bet). Sir Mark Prescott’s horses have a habit of arriving at the right moment, and the form of -22131 shows a horse on the way up. Apprentice Poppy Scott claims 7lbs, which with Prescott conditioning could be significant. These two are the clear dangers, and the race likely comes down to which is the sharper improver.

Galaxy Wonder’s trainer form tips the balance. Take the 5/2.

7:30 โ€” Fitzdares Maiden Stakes (1m6f, Good)

Eleven runners for this extended maiden, and the market has made Phantom Recon a narrow favourite at 10/3 (Boyle Sports, Betfred). George Scott’s yard has been ticking over (3/24 in the last fortnight) and the gelding ran a quiet fourth on debut. One run does not tell you much, but the price suggests connections believe there is significant improvement to come over this staying trip.

Authorised Speed Each-Way at 8/1 (Boyle Sports) is the each-way play. A nine-year-old gelding still running in maidens sounds like a red flag, but some older maiden runners on the Flat have been placed consistently without winning and carry form that is better than the record suggests. Gary and Josh Moore’s yard is running well (5/37) and Tom Queally is one of the most experienced jockeys on the card. At 8/1 with three places on offer at 1/5 odds, the each-way case is straightforward in an 11-runner maiden.

8:05 โ€” Casamigos Handicap (1m, Good)

The mile handicap is one of the most competitive races on the card, with ten runners and plenty of in-form horses. Euston Hall at 9/2 (Boyle Sports, Betfred) is the standout. Ed Walker’s yard is in excellent form (6/40 in 14 days), and this colt carries a form line of 42-11. Back-to-back wins suggest a horse that has found its level and confidence at the same time. George Downing keeps the ride, which is the continuity you want to see. Good ground at Goodwood over a mile, and a yard firing: this is a genuine favourite at a reasonable price.

Ciarrai Abu at 4/1 (Boyle Sports, Betfred, LiveScore Bet) is the alternative for those who want a touch more value. Kaiya Fraser’s 20% Goodwood record (A/E 1.2) is a stat worth respecting, Harry Eustace’s yard has winners on the board, and a form line of 62-1 shows a winner last time. The step up in class in a handicap is the only question. At 4/1, there is no need to complicate it.

The selection is Euston Hall. The form is the form.

8:35 โ€” Goodwood Horseracing Club Membership Handicap (5f, Good)

The card closes with a five-furlong sprint handicap, and the market is tight. Red Snapper is the public’s choice at 3/1 (Boyle Sports, Betfred) to 11/4 (LiveScore Bet), carrying a form line of 21-262. Consistent, placed, but not finding enough when it matters. Trainer Kathy Turner has no runners listed in the 14-day stats, which makes the market move here harder to read.

The value pick is Havana Smile at 10/3 across the board (Boyle Sports, Betfred, LiveScore Bet). Gary and Josh Moore have been among the form trainers recently (5/35 in a fortnight, same rate as earlier on this card), Tom Queally is a seasoned operator in sprint handicaps, and the form of 274-71 shows a horse that went close last time. Good ground suits a horse with natural pace, and 10/3 for a Moore-trained sprinter in this form is a fair clip. This is the call for the closer.

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksEuston Hall โ€” Casamigos Handicap (8:05, Goodwood)
Odds: 9/2 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 9/2 Betfred, 4/1 LiveScore Bet)

Back-to-back wins is the simplest form story on the card, and Ed Walker’s operation is running at a healthy clip over the past fortnight. Good ground at Goodwood over a mile plays right into the hands of a progressive 3yo who has found its confidence. George Downing retains the ride, the yard is firing, and 9/2 for a horse that has won two on the spin represents genuine value in a competitive mile handicap.
