Goodwood Festival Tips: Wednesday 29 July 2026
Good ground, seven races, and a card that has something for everyone from a 28-runner sprint handicap to a Group 1 with an unbeaten favourite. Goodwood rewards course-track specialists, and on a day like this the draw and pace scenarios matter as much as the form book. Here are the selections that stand out.
1:50 โ Coral Rewards Shaker Handicap Stakes (1m4f, Handicap)
Selection: Cannes at 4/1 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)
The last-time-out flop is doing the rounds as the main query here, but Joseph Patrick O’Brien’s yard is currently operating at a 28% strike rate over the past fortnight, which is a yard firing hard. Cannes won two starts back and was placed in the two runs before that, so the profile is a horse in good form who had one below-par effort. Horses from hot stables who bounce off a single bad run are exactly the types to back when the price holds up. At 4/1 Dylan Browne McMonagle takes the ride and you are getting a yard that simply does not cool down right now.
The top-rated Tierra Del Toro is interesting at 6/1 given his consistency, but that ninth last time raises more questions at the weights than Cannes’s similarly below-par run. Hatteen at 9/4 is overbet given he sits eighth on our figures. The price is wrong for a horse whose rating lags his recent win.
2:25 โ British Stallion Studs EBF Alice Keppel Fillies’ Conditions Stakes (5f)
Selection: Fast Track at 11/2 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)
Wild Blossom is a fair favourite at 11/8 given she is the top-rated of nine and K.R. Burke’s yard is buzzing at 34%. But a blank last time and a conditions race at Goodwood means the market has already priced that risk tightly. Fast Track at 11/2 represents real value. Andrew Balding is running at 26% in the last fortnight, the filly won last time out bouncing back from her only blemish, and she is rated 96, second of nine. She has already handled today’s trip and going. The price should be shorter. Take the 11/2.
Hidden Gift’s trainer is at 5% over the past two weeks, so swerve that one regardless of price.
3:00 โ Rolls-Royce Oak Tree Stakes (Group 3, 7f)
Selection: Dash Of Azure Each-Way at 11/1 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)
Flora Of Bermuda and Sayidah Dariyan share 3/1 at the top of the market and are legitimate threats, but the value lies elsewhere. Dash Of Azure has been runner-up in each of her last two starts, is rated fourth in a 14-runner field, and Ralph Beckett’s yard has sent out eight winners from 41 runners in the past fortnight. With four places on offer at 1/5 odds, a 11/1 shot that is clearly improving and running into form is screaming each-way. The field is big enough, the places are generous enough, and Beckett’s record at Goodwood (19% winners, A/E 0.99) underlines he knows how to target this track.
Sayidah Dariyan is the form pick at 3/1 if you want a shorter win selection. That 106 speed figure has to be respected alongside Ryan Moore’s booking.
3:35 โ Veuve Clicquot Molecomb Stakes (Group 3, 5f)
Selection: Adonius at 9/2 (LiveScore Bet)
Three from three. That is the case for Adonius, and in a Group 3 for juveniles, an unbeaten sequence of that quality puts you third in the field on the figures despite an 84-day absence. Kaiya Fraser has a 20% strike rate and an A/E of 1.27 at this track, which is an outstanding number. Rebecca Menzies has had a quieter recent fortnight but an unbeaten horse with class form does not need a trainer in red-hot form. El Floridita at 6/1 is the danger having shaped well last time, but the unbeaten angle on Adonius is the one to be with.
4:10 โ Visit Qatar Sussex Stakes (Group 1, 1m)
Selection: Bow Echo at Evens (Boyle Sports / Betfred / LiveScore Bet)
Five from five. A horse that has never been beaten, at a mile on good ground at Goodwood, ridden by Billy Loughnane for a yard operating at 20% in the past fortnight. The 43-day absence is the only thing keeping this from being a formality, and at evens it is fair rather than generous, but the case is rock solid. No horse in this field has his combination of consistency and upward trajectory.
Opera Ballo at 4/1 is the main danger on form, three wins from his last four before a third last time out, and Charlie Appleby at 6/16 in the past fortnight is a training operation in full flow. Lake Forest at 12/1 is worth a small saver given he won last time out and William Haggas knows this course well.
5:00 โ Coral Charlton Handicap Stakes (6f, 28 runners)
Selection: Expert Agent Each-Way at 20/1 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)
Twenty-eight runners means chaos and value, and five places at 1/5 odds makes each-way punting essential in this race. Expert Agent is ranked second of 28 on the figures. That is an outstanding position for a 20/1 shot. Two wins in his last six starts, the yard not completely cold at 13%, and only a modest fourth last time out stops this from being an obvious selection. At 20/1 with a high figure ranking, this is precisely the type of bet Goodwood’s massive sprint handicaps are made for.
Under The Twilight at 6/1 is interesting having won last time out and sitting seventh on our figures, but the figures do not justify that price being as short as it is. Pellitory tops the figures in the HKJC race later so note that one too.
5:40 โ HKJC World Pool Handicap Stakes (7f, 20 runners)
Selection: Pellitory Each-Way at 10/1 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)
Tops the figures on 100, rated first of 20, already proven over today’s trip and going, and was runner-up last time out. David O’Meara’s yard is not flying at 9% but the horse’s own form profile does most of the talking here. A 10/1 shot heading the ratings in a 20-runner handicap, placed last time, suited by the conditions. Five places at 1/5 in a field this size means the each-way case is straightforward. Bobby Bennu at 9/2 looks overpriced for a horse ranked third on our figures with a strong 92 speed figure, but Pellitory’s top billing at double the price is the bet.
Today’s NAP
Odds: Evens โ Boyle Sports (others: Evens Betfred, Evens LiveScore Bet)
Five wins from five starts, good ground at a mile, and Goodwood in July. The 43-day break is the one query but George Boughey’s yard is in form at 20% over the past fortnight and Loughnane is an in-form rider. Evens is fair value rather than generous for an unbeaten horse stepping up to Group 1 company, but backing a horse with a perfect record in a prestige race is exactly the right approach when the form is this compelling. This is the strongest single case on the card.
