Hamilton Tips: Friday 15 May 2026

A compact seven-race card at Hamilton on good ground, and the going should suit horses with a bit of class rather than those that need it soft. Three races stand out for punters looking for a genuine angle, including a cracking handicap opener and a three-runner affair that has a clear value play lurking underneath the market leader.

7:15 โ€” Precon Braveheart Handicap (1m3f, Good)

Seven runners over a mile and three furlongs, and the market is telling you something interesting. Humble Spark is the 11/4 favourite off a top Racing Post Rating of 111, but that RPR was built on form that has since gone stale: five consecutive finishes of fourth, fifth, fifth, fourth, and second. That is a horse running consistently without winning, and at 11/4 in a seven-runner field there is no value in chasing that.

Elsass (7/2, Charlie Johnston) is the selection. The form reads 9120-1, which translates as: came back from a break, bagged a win last time out. Charlie Johnston has been the standout northern yards trainer this season and his 6/43 over 14 days is solid volume at a decent strike rate for a public stable. The Timeform Speed figure of 93 is the joint-highest in the field alongside Humble Spark, and crucially Elsass is getting in on 120lbs compared to the favourite’s 117lbs, a minimal difference that the market has arguably over-penalised. Connor Beasley knows Hamilton inside out and rides the course extremely well.

Good ground suits, the yard is in form, and the horse arrives here as a winner. Best price 7/2 across all three books. The each-way terms here are only two places in a seven-runner field so a win-only approach makes sense given the price.

6:05 โ€” British EBF Restricted Maiden (6f, Good)

A six-furlong juvenile maiden, and only two of the six runners have any racecourse form to go on. That makes this a puzzle, but not an unsolvable one.

Ricky Punting (2/1, Tom Dascombe) is the play. He ran fourth on debut, which puts him ahead of Boutblummintime who finished sixth on his only start. The RPR of 73 versus 62 tells the same story. Dascombe’s yard has had a quiet 14-day spell (1/10) but this horse ran into a reasonable horse on debut and the step up from that run should be there. Pierre-Louis Jamin takes the ride, a quality booking for this level.

Waasil is unraced and on the second line of the market, which means the market is pricing in stable whispers rather than known form. That is a risk you do not need to take at 9/4 when a horse with a public line of form is available at 2/1 from Boyle Sports. Back Ricky Punting to win at that price.

6:40 โ€” Prime Secure William Wallace Handicap (1m3f, Good)

Three runners, which means no each-way betting, and this race is effectively a match between the two market leaders with My Ballyquinn as a 11/4 outsider. The interesting angle is that the market has Gaelic Approach as the 11/8 favourite, yet Harriet Quimby is available at 6/4 and boasts better recent form.

Harriet Quimby (6/4, Simon and Ed Crisford) has a form line of 32-1, meaning she won last time out after finishing second and third previously. The Crisford yard is operating at 2/12 over 14 days, a moderate volume but both winners suggest the horses running are ready. Oisin Orr is an excellent rider who does not take throwaway bookings at small Hamilton meetings.

Gaelic Approach has an RPR of 89 and a Timeform Speed figure of just 35, which is a massive red flag. A high RPR can be earned over a very different surface or distance, but a TS of 35 on the day suggests a horse that ran below peak. Harriet Quimby has a TS of 50 and importantly she is a filly who clearly handled conditions last time. The 6/4 at Boyle Sports and Betfred is the best price and represents a fair return given the three-runner nature of the race.

Today’s NAP

Elsass โ€” Precon Braveheart Handicap (7:15, Hamilton)
Odds: 7/2 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 7/2 Betfred, 7/2 LiveScore Bet)

A horse arriving here as a winner under low weight, trained by the in-form Charlie Johnston yard, with one of the two highest speed figures in the race. The favourite Humble Spark has been finishing second and fourth for weeks without converting, and at 11/4 the market is asking you to pay a premium for a serial runner-up. Elsass won last time, suits good ground, and Connor Beasley is a constant threat at this track. Best bet on the card.
