Hamilton, Wednesday 17 June 2026 — Tipster’s Verdict

A sharp seven-race card at Hamilton on good to soft ground following overnight rain. The track suits horses that stay the course well and rewards those who break cleanly on the five-furlong dash. The going is genuine for this time of year, and Kevin Ryan’s yard sits top of the Hamilton trainer table with a 20% strike rate and an A/E of 1.14 — always worth noting when he saddles something with form. Jim Goldie meanwhile has multiple runners across the card and looks to be firing, with 9/45 winners over the last 14 days and the home advantage of knowing this track inside out.

2:50 — Scullion Law EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes (5f, Good To Soft)

Six runners, two-year-olds only, and the market tells a fairly clear story. Sea Mirage heads the betting at 6/4 under Shane Gray for Kevin Ryan, and given Ryan’s remarkable Hamilton record (20% winners, A/E of 1.14), you can understand why. A form reading of 62 suggests this colt has been competitive without winning, and good to soft on five furlongs at Hamilton is exactly the type of surface Ryan’s juveniles tend to thrive on.

That said, the value angle sits with Sunset Cove at 3/1 for K R Burke, ridden by Sam James. Burke has been in tremendous form with 7/44 winners over the last 14 days, and a filly stepping onto good to soft for the first time from a trainer who knows how to place his two-year-olds is not to be dismissed lightly. James is a shrewd booking at this track and Burke regularly targets these restricted maidens with horses who are ready to run into the frame and beyond.

Selection: Sunset Cove (3/1, Boyle Sports/Betfred)

3:25 — Follow Us On X @hamiltonparkrc Handicap (5f, Good To Soft)

Nine runners over the minimum trip and this has real interest. The market has latched onto Call Margot at 9/4 for Gemma Tutty, and while Tutty does have an 18% Hamilton record, the yard has drawn a blank over the last nine days. That is the kind of stat that makes you look elsewhere.

Canaria Queen Each-Way at 11/2 with Boyle Sports and Betfred is the pick of the race. Tim Easterby’s six-year-old mare has been in scintillating form, and a sequence reading 161221 tells its own story. She has won twice in that run, placed three times, and the second in the string is her most recent. The weight she carries is workable at this level, Duran Fentiman rides, and Easterby has sent out 10/103 winners in the last 14 days which is a solid yard-wide strike rate. Good to soft suits a mare who clearly handles cut in the ground.

The other angle worth exploring is Montezuma at 10/3 for Jim Goldie, who knows Hamilton better than almost anyone. Form of -21205 shows he is competitive and he has won twice from five attempts this season. Paul Mulrennan takes the ride, always a positive booking at this course. But at the prices, Canaria Queen at 11/2 each-way offers the superior return.

Selection: Canaria Queen (11/2 each-way, Boyle Sports or Betfred, 3 places at 1/5 odds)

4:02 — #Cleanstay At Hampton By Hilton Handicap (6f, Good To Soft)

Eight runners over six furlongs and this is the race of the day. The most interesting runner in the field is Iris Dancer at 7/2 for Tristan Davidson, handled by Connor Beasley. Davidson’s Hamilton record stands at 19% wins with an A/E of 1.17, meaning his runners at this track return well above expectation. Iris Dancer is an eight-year-old mare with a form line of 204061 that shows consistent competitiveness, and the 061 at the end of that sequence includes a win followed by a close-up sixth and a solid fourth. She handles good to soft without fuss, and at 7/2 this looks a touch overpriced for a Davidson runner at a course where his yard punches well above its weight.

The market leader Stirrup Cup at 11/4 for Tim Easterby has the form line 8-2391 and David Allan takes the ride. The 1 on the end is recent and relevant, and Easterby sends runners to Hamilton regularly. But the gap in price between Stirrup Cup and Iris Dancer makes Davidson’s mare far more appealing from a value standpoint.

Pop Star Each-Way at 7/1 for Iain Jardine also warrants a second look. A form reading of 000014 shows the horse has found form after a slow patch, and Andrew Mullen on board is a positive sign. At 7/1 each-way in an eight-runner handicap, that final 4 in the sequence could be the start of a run into better form.

Selection: Iris Dancer (7/2, Boyle Sports or Betfred)

Odds: 11/2 — Boyle Sports (others: 11/2 Betfred, 5/1 LiveScore Bet)

A mare in the form of her life. Six career runs showing 161221 is a sequence few horses at this level can match, and Tim Easterby has been churning out winners at a consistent rate across the last fortnight. Good to soft is her ground, Hamilton’s five-furlong sprint suits front-runners and strong travellers, and at 11/2 she is marginally overpriced against a market that has fixated on Call Margot from a yard that has gone quiet in recent days. Canaria Queen at 11/2 each-way is the bet of the card.
