Hamilton, Thursday 16 July 2026: Best Bets from the Scottish Track
A seven-race card at Hamilton today, and while the going remains unconfirmed at time of writing, this is a track that rewards horses with proven course form and trainers who travel north with intent. George Scott’s remarkable 55% strike rate here is worth keeping front of mind throughout the afternoon. The card is modest in terms of prize money but the handicaps offer a couple of angles worth exploiting.

Only four runners, but there’s a clear pick here. Call Nicki (9/4, Boyle Sports / Betfred) trained by Tim Easterby and ridden by David Allan gets the nod. Four places from her last five starts, a win just 21 days ago, and she’s already proven at this five-furlong trip. Rated 80 and second-best in the field on the figures, she’s consistent in a way the others simply aren’t. Caturra Lights tops the ratings but hasn’t won in three, and that below-par ninth 47 days back remains a flag.
Tango Hotel is the obvious danger, coming in on the back of a win for the in-form George Scott yard, but her form before that victory was pedestrian. Call Nicki’s rhythm and consistency make her the more reliable option at the prices.
Selection: Call Nicki, 9/4 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)
3:25 โ Wellman Cars Private Hire Almada Mile Handicap (1mยฝf)
Six runners over a mile and a half, and the most interesting angle is the one at the top of the market. English Oak (3/1, Boyle Sports / Betfred) is top-rated at 104, already proven over today’s trip, and Jack Nicholls takes the ride. Nicholls carries a 5lb claim and has a 21% strike rate at this track, which is a useful combination. The 144lb burden is stiff, yes, but that rating puts him clear of the field on figures and two wins earlier in the sequence show this isn’t a horse who flatters to deceive.
The trainer Hamad Al Jehani has drawn a blank in the last 14 days, which is the one note of caution. But the form of the horse himself, combined with Nicholls’s course record, makes this a race English Oak looks well positioned to take.
I’ll Be Back is the market leader at 13/8 but a 94-day break is a serious concern, especially against rivals with recent runs under their belts. Hard to trust fresh at this level.
Monarch’s Gold at 5/1 offers some value if English Oak disappoints; trainer Kevin Philippart De Foy is running at 23% over the past fortnight and the horse is rated 97 on the figures, third-best in the field. But the poor ninth last time out needs explaining.
Selection: English Oak, 3/1 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)
4:00 โ Every Race Live On Racing TV Handicap (1mยฝf)
This is the most open race of the day, and the most interesting angle comes at a price. Jannas Journey Each-Way (11/4, Boyle Sports / Betfred) arrives on the back of a win just 12 days ago for Jim Goldie, proven over this trip, and represents a yard that sends horses to Hamilton with purpose. The concern is obvious: the rest of her recent form reads 9-7-8-4-8, so that last win could be a one-off. But she’s fit, in form at the right moment, and at 11/4 each-way in a five-runner race there’s a case for siding with her momentum.
Inspired at 9/4 is consistent, proven over the trip, and just two weeks since a runner-up effort. The knock against him is six starts without a win. K.R. Burke’s yard is ticking along at a reasonable clip nationally but his Hamilton record (15%) doesn’t blow you away, and Inspired needs to find something he hasn’t found in a long time.
Kaleido has been runner-up in his last two, but David O’Meara’s yard is firing on just 4% in the last fortnight, which is well below their typical level. Hard to make a case at 5/2 with that stat hanging over him.
Selection: Jannas Journey, 11/4 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)
Today’s NAP
Odds: 9/4 โ Boyle Sports (others: 9/4 Betfred, 9/4 LiveScore Bet)
Four placings from five starts including a win just three weeks ago, already proven at five furlongs, and the best record of consistency in a four-runner field. Rated 80 and second on the figures, Tim Easterby sends her north in form and David Allan knows this track well. At 9/4, she’s not a big price, but in a race this small you don’t need value, you need the right horse. This is the right horse.
