Hamilton, Friday 17 July 2026: Tips & Analysis

Seven races at Hamilton tonight, with three standing out as genuinely puntable. The track rewards horses with course experience and trainers in form, and the stats here are clear: Andrew Balding leads all trainers at the circuit with a 31% strike rate, while Kevin Ryan and K. R. Burke are the two most prolific handlers at the venue. With Glorious Goodwood just 11 days away, trainers are sharpening their tools and some of these runners will be peaking at exactly the right time.

6:05 โ€” Jordan Electrics EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes (6f)

Selection: Instant Force (6/4, Boyle Sports / Betfred)

Five runners, three of them debuting off a single second-place run, so the key differentiator here is the trainer. K. R. Burke runs at 16% at Hamilton with 72 winners from 461 runners at this track, but the more telling number is his current 14-day form: 11 winners from 46 runners. That is a yard absolutely firing. Clifford Lee takes the ride, and Burke’s two-year-olds rarely appear twice without a plan attached.

Instant Force was runner-up on debut, which is a solid foundation for a yard that tends to improve their juveniles sharply between runs. The 6/4 is not spectacular, but in a five-runner maiden where the form lines are paper-thin, a trainer operating at nearly 24% over the last fortnight is a genuine edge. Kevin Ryan’s Battle Fever at 11/4 is tempting given Ryan’s course record, but the yard is cold right now at 1 from 25 in the last 14 days. Nicely is preferred by the market but trains with Kevin Philippart De Foy, a yard without a Hamilton profile to speak of. Burke’s form profile wins the argument.

7:15 โ€” Jordan Electrics Scottish Stewards’ Cup Handicap Stakes (6f)

Selection: Ferrous Each-Way (8/1, Boyle Sports / Betfred)

Eight runners, three places at 1/5 odds, and a horse that tops the figures well above his official mark of 97. Ferrous has not won in his last five starts, but the expert ratings have him rated significantly clear of that handicap mark and there is a strong case that the assessor has let him slide to a workable number.

Jack Channon’s yard is out of form on paper at 0 from 15 in the past 14 days, but that raw stat needs context: a runner sitting this far above his mark suggests connections are targeting this specific race with intent. Callum Rodriguez, who rides at 17% at Hamilton, takes the mount. The second-place finish four starts back, combined with course-distance experience and a quick 20-day turnaround, paints the picture of a horse being placed deliberately. At 8/1 each-way in a race that pays three places, the place return alone makes this worth a stake.

Commanche Falls tops the figures but returns after 148 days off. That is a significant ask in a handicap sprint. Strike Red’s recent second is solid, but the Fahey yard is ticking over rather than flying. Gangsta Falls is the obvious market rival off a recent win but rates below his official mark.

7:50 โ€” British Stallion Studs EBF Glasgow Stakes (Listed Race, 1m3f)

Selection: Prizeland (7/2, Boyle Sports / Betfred)

This is the race of the night and the value is sitting at 7/2 in the shape of Andrew Balding’s Prizeland. Balding is the outstanding trainer at Hamilton with a 31% strike rate from 45 runners, an A/E of 1.19 that confirms this is not sample-size noise. P J McDonald takes the ride, a jockey who knows this track intimately.

Prizeland has two wins and a runner-up finish in her three starts prior to a below-par fifth last time out 26 days ago. She sits second on the expert figures with a 2lb edge over her official mark of 94, and she has course experience over this exact trip. That previous fifth is the only blemish on a record that otherwise reads like a horse capable of competing at Listed level.

The market favourite Superior Choice at 5/6 is hard to oppose on recent form alone, back-to-back wins being back-to-back wins, but the expert figures rate him at the bottom of this field and some way below his official mark of 87. John and Thady Gosden’s yard is firing at 7 from 16, which deserves respect, but the figures here genuinely do not back up that price. At evens-on, you need certainty. You do not have it.

Mr Colonel tops the figures and holds a 3lb edge over his mark, but that dismal ninth on his latest run after a break gives pause. Plaid has a fine record but the 40-day absence since her last outing is a concern at this level.

Prizeland at 7/2 with the Balding course record, the figure edge, and the trip ticked off represents the clearest value on the card tonight.

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksPrizeland โ€” British Stallion Studs EBF Glasgow Stakes (19:50, Hamilton)
Odds: 7/2 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 7/2 Betfred, 7/2 LiveScore Bet)

Andrew Balding strikes at 31% at Hamilton with an A/E of 1.19, the best record of any trainer at this track, and Prizeland arrives with a 2lb edge over her official mark and two wins from her last three completed efforts before a forgettable fifth. P J McDonald knows the circuit and the figures rate her ahead of the market favourite. At 7/2 against a 5/6 shot the expert ratings do not support, this is where the value sits tonight.
