Hereford, Tuesday 12 May 2026 — Good Going Tips

A quiet six-race card at Hereford on good ground, and honestly that suits us just fine. Small fields mean less noise to cut through, and there are some genuinely interesting angles across the three featured races. The going is riding good throughout, which is a significant filter here: several runners have form questions on testing ground, so those who relish a quicker surface move straight to the top of the shortlist.

2:38 — Worcester Racecourse Ladies Day Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (3m1f)

Two runners, so this is essentially a match. Queensbury Boy at 8/11 is the one to beat on RPR (135 to nothing rated on Court In A Storm), but the form line reads 45526 and he hasn’t won over fences yet, including a heavy-ground hiding at Kelso in February. The wind op since then is noted, and the return to a right-handed track genuinely helps. His Windsor second (3m, soft) in January showed he stays and handles good-ish ground.

Court In A Storm at evens is marginally bigger price and carries 12lb less. Every single one of his eight career starts has come on good ground, making him perfectly suited today. He won here over hurdles previously, knows the track, and a yard with Kim Bailey and Mat Nicholls combined showing 1/2 in the last 14 days is ticking over nicely. The chasing debut is the unknown, but his dam Aimigayle improved markedly for going over fences, and that bloodline note from the form book is not throwaway detail.

Selection: Court In A Storm (Tom Bellamy) — Evens, Boyle Sports/Betfred. Knows the track, loves the ground, and the family form over fences is a genuine positive angle for what is a chasing debut.

3:08 — CopyBet Handicap Chase (2m5f)

A three-runner handicap and the most interesting puzzle of the day. Quick Sharpener (7/4) has a poor recent record: five runs last season produced a pull-up, a fall, a fifth, and two more pull-ups. A move to Jamie Snowden’s yard, which is having a productive month at 3/13 in the last 14 days, could represent the change of scenery this horse needs. He won off a mark 4lb higher than today’s at Bangor on good ground last April, so the handicapper hasn’t hammered him. There’s a case here.

Delpotro (10/11) is the market leader and deserves to be. Front-runner who won twice at Sedgefield on good-to-firm and good, returned from a break at Plumpton (good to soft) and ran a solid third. Today’s good ground suits, and if he’s allowed to control from the front in a small field, catching him could be harder than the price suggests.

Beep Beep Becky is a first-time chaser who was well beaten over hurdles, but she is a point runner-up and a tongue-tie goes on. The market will tell a story at the off, but without a stronger signal, she’s filed as each-way at best in a race of this size.

Selection: Delpotro (Sean Bowen) — 10/11, Boyle Sports/LiveScore Bet. Good ground front-runner who ran well on return from a break. Small field, familiar going conditions, and Sean Bowen in the saddle: this horse gets every chance to dictate.

3:38 — Ludford Car Parts Group Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle (2m3½f)

The best race of the day for finding value, and the Dan Skelton yard is the place to start. Hidden Fortune (4/5) is a point winner stepping into hurdles for the first time. She’s a sister to a 3m hurdle winner, finished second on both bumper starts on good-to-soft and good ground, and the step up in trip to 2m3f looks like it will suit her profile. Skelton’s yard is at 11/33 in the last 14 days, firing in winners consistently, and Harry Skelton takes the ride. This is a yard that places horses well, and they wouldn’t be here if they didn’t think she was ready to go to work.

Kittys Glance (7/4) is the class act on form, winning at Huntingdon on good in March after a wind op. She carries a penalty and bled on that occasion, which is worth flagging, but the hood helped her settle and the trainer Alan King saddles a horse who the form book thinks will continue to progress.

Lady Kara (best price 11/4, Boyle Sports) Each-Way is 0-8 for her career but has run well on her two spring starts. She’s not winning this easily, but at 11/4 each-way in a six-runner field she could sneak a place if the market leaders don’t fire. Liasse d’Argent (28/1), Mrs Cravatte (28/1), and Nannymooresbridge (50/1) can all be left alone.

Selection: Hidden Fortune (Harry Skelton) — 4/5, Boyle Sports/Betfred. Strong market support expected. Point-to-point winner with a staying pedigree stepping into hurdles at the right track on the right ground with the Skelton team at peak potency.

Today’s NAP

Hidden Fortune — Ludford Car Parts Group Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle
Odds: 4/5 — Boyle Sports (others: 4/5 Betfred, 8/11 LiveScore Bet)

Dan Skelton’s yard is in form and Harry Skelton doesn’t travel to Hereford for nothing. Hidden Fortune is a point winner who relishes good ground, is a sister to a staying hurdle winner, and this 2m3f trip looks tailored to her profile. The 4/5 price reflects her quality, not an over-hyped favourite. Kittys Glance is a worthy rival, but the Skelton angle, combined with a first hurdle start that could unlock serious improvement, makes this the banker of the card.
