Hexham Tips: Saturday 13 June 2026
A sunny afternoon at Hexham with good ground across the card. Three races to pick through, and there are some genuinely interesting angles to work with. The track at Hexham rewards galloping types who stay on well around the undulating Northumberland circuit, and good ground suits horses with a bit of class rather than grinding relentlessness. Trainer and jockey course stats carry real weight here, and a couple of combinations today stand out sharply.
2:17 โ Clean Sweep Novices’ Hurdle (GBB Race)
Selection: Nobotheratall โ 7/4 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)
Tristan Davidson’s yard shows 18% wins at Hexham with an A/E of 1.17, meaning punters who follow Davidson runners here actually come out ahead. That matters. Harry Reed takes the ride on Nobotheratall, whose form string of 3179-1 tells its own story: the horse came back from a spell, reverted to form, and went and won last time out. A 6-year-old gelding who has learned his trade the hard way, he arrives here as a course-and-distance type on a flat trajectory upwards.
Gary Hanmer’s yard is 0/10 in the last 14 days, which makes it hard to get excited about All About Moi at 13/2 despite James Davies’ excellent 2.11 A/E at this track. The market favourite on the day, Nobotheratall ticks the most boxes. A winning reappearance, a trainer firing at Hexham, and good ground to suit. The 7/4 available at Boyle Sports and Betfred is fair rather than generous, but this is the right horse in this field.
3:40 โ Lisa Bond Celebration Handicap Hurdle
Selection: Passing Diamond โ 10/3 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)
Ben Haslam’s yard is 0/18 in the last fortnight, which would normally ring alarm bells. But zoom out to the course form and Haslam shows 18% wins at Hexham with an A/E of 1.20. That’s a yard that knows this track. Richie McLernon partners Passing Diamond, and McLernon is one of the standout jockeys at Hexham, hitting at 19% with an A/E of 1.30 from 114 rides. That combination of trainer course knowledge and jockey course record is hard to ignore.
The form says 633-11. Two consecutive wins heading into this handicap. The handicapper has had a look and presumably adjusted the mark, but Passing Diamond arrives here in genuine form rather than chasing it. At 10/3 against rivals who include a yard that’s been blank for a fortnight (Perseus Way, 9/4 favourite, trained by Davidson) and a Mark Walford runner who has a P in recent form, this looks the most compelling bet of the day.
Perseus Way is fair at 9/4 and the Davidson/Reed combination is live anywhere at Hexham, but the trajectory of Passing Diamond’s recent runs gives more confidence. Sunset Hill has placed recently and 9/2 is not unappealing, but the Haslam/McLernon axis at this course is the angle to follow.
4:10 โ drainrat.co.uk Handicap Hurdle (2m7ยฝf)
Selection: Supreme Yeats โ 9/4 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)
Dan Skelton is the standout trainer at Hexham, 27% wins from 48 runners. Harry Skelton is the standout jockey, 33% wins from 15 rides. When you get them together in the same race, you pay attention. Supreme Yeats carries 165lbs and comes into this on the back of consecutive wins (808-11), the recent low giving way to two victories on the bounce. The step back up to 2m7ยฝf on good ground looks well within his compass for a 10-year-old who clearly still has his enthusiasm.
The competition here is thin. Campaign Trail is 15/8 favourite and won last time from a low mark, but Kim Bailey’s yard is 0/2 in the last fortnight and Ciaran Gethings, while solid at Hexham, doesn’t carry the same weight of course stats as Harry Skelton. Billy Boi Blue’s yard is in form (4/10 in 14 days) and David Bass is always dangerous, but the PP in the form is a concern for a marathon trip.
Skelton versus Skelton at Hexham, on the back of a winning run, at 9/4. That’s the play.
Today’s NAP
Odds: 10/3 โ Boyle Sports (others: 10/3 Betfred, 3/1 LiveScore Bet)
Two wins on the spin heading into a Hexham handicap, trained by Ben Haslam who returns 18% and an A/E of 1.20 at this course, ridden by Richie McLernon who operates at 19% and an A/E of 1.30 here from over 100 rides. That is not a coincidence; it is a combination that consistently overperforms at this track. The 10/3 is a workable price for a horse in form, with the right pilot, for a trainer who knows Hexham better than most.
