Kempton (AW) Tips: Wednesday 8 April 2026
A midweek evening card at Kempton under the lights, with Standard To Slow conditions on the Polytrack. Three races stand out for punters looking for genuine angles. The going description matters here: Standard To Slow on this surface suits horses with a staying, grinding style rather than sharp early-speed types. Keep that in mind across the card.
5:00 โ Virgin Bet/EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes (1m3f)
Romantic Symphony is the clear selection at 8/15 favourite, and whilst the price is short, the form angle is solid. She won on debut at Newmarket last September, beating a subsequent winner, and the pedigree screams this trip and beyond: full sister to Yibir and Wild Illusion, both Group 1 winners at middle distances. Charlie Appleby's yard is ticking over at 3/10 in the last 14 days, not explosive, but functional enough. Billy Loughnane takes the ride and this filly looks the stable's first string ahead of stable companion Fashion's Fancy.
The one to watch at a bigger price is Light Of Paris, a 500,000gns half-sister to Lucky Lion (German Group 1 winner) trained by John and Thady Gosden. The Gosdens are capable of producing a well-prepared first-timer, and if this one comes into the market before post time, the confidence would be significant. At 8/1 with BetVictor she is worth including in an each-way double if your book allows, but Romantic Symphony is the bet.
Selection: Romantic Symphony (8/15, Bet365/William Hill/Coral)
7:00 โ Virgin Bet Daily Extra Places Fillies' Handicap (1m3f)
This is the most competitive race on the card. Seven fillies and mares, a decent spread of prices, and two clear contenders pulling clear of the field.
Club Class Each-Way comes into this looking like the value play at 15/8 with Betfred or Bet Victor. She was consistent all last season, finishing in the frame in five of seven starts, and her two best efforts came right here at Kempton: a novice win over 1m4f in September and then a second of 13 in a handicap over the same trip the following month. The track suits. James Fanshawe's 14-day stats (2/23) look modest, but his horses tend to show up fit first time out, and she is returning after 161 days off to a track she handles well. Oisin Murphy takes the ride, which never hurts on an AW track where he is invariably among the leaders in the jockeys' standings.
The danger is Rastnet at 5/2, trained by John Butler who is in blazing form at 7/16 in the last 14 days. That strike rate demands respect. She has finished second twice recently and looks primed for a win. The issue is that her mark looks about right, while Club Class arguably still has room to progress.
Caramay won over C&D in February and will run her race, but the spotlight suggests she is on a stiff enough mark now. Schemaya has class but this trip looks short after six months off.
Selection: Club Class Each-Way (15/8, Betfred/Bet Victor) EW terms: 3 places at 1/5 odds
7:30 โ Every Saturday Money Back Handicap, London Sprint Series Qualifier (6f)
The sprint, and this is where the card gets interesting. Eight runners, three with a genuine case.
Arry Up is the horse to beat. He won convincingly at C&D just seven days ago, coming from a wide stall to lead throughout and hold on comfortably. Today he is better drawn, which matters on the Kempton 6f where a prominent position from a mid-to-low draw is the clearest route to success. Yes, he carries a 6lb penalty and steps into higher-grade company, but a horse winning like that rarely stops at one. Rod Millman's 14-day stats (1/14) are unremarkable, but his horses are fit to run well and Arry Up has form in the book on this exact track.
Hallo Spaceboy at 10/3 with Bet365 is the main threat. Ed Walker's colt won a 5f AW novice at Newcastle before this, and this is his first crack at handicaps. The step back up to 6f is the right move and Kieran Shoemark rides well at Kempton. He could easily be competitive at a big price if the handicapper has been kind, but with Walker's 14-day stats at 1/13, the yard is not exactly humming right now.
Return Of The Gods at 7/2 also has claims after a two-from-two form line, but Edward Bethell's three wins from six starters in 14 days suggests the yard is warm, and that is worth noting.
The value pick with an each-way case is Perfect Location Each-Way at 11/1 with Bet365. Sean Levey won on her at Southwell last summer, she was second on nursery debut at Leicester, and she is nicely drawn for a prominent racer. At 198 days off there is a fitness question, but Tom Ward's 1/7 record in 14 days shows the yard has been able to get one ready. At 11/1 the each-way return covers plenty of risk.
Selection: Arry Up (3/1, Bet365/William Hill/Coral)
Today's NAP
Odds: 3/1 โ Bet365 (others: 3/1 William Hill, 3/1 Coral)
Won over course and distance just seven days ago in convincing fashion, coming wide to lead and never looking in trouble. Better drawn today, the C&D form is rock solid on a track where course experience counts, and Standard To Slow conditions suit a horse that grinds out a win rather than relying on zip. The 6lb penalty is a consideration but this looks a yard with a fit horse ready to go again, and at 3/1 in a sprint handicap with a live chance, that represents a fair clip of value.
