Kempton (AW) Tips: Wednesday 27 May 2026

Three races on the Kempton card tonight deserve serious attention. Standard to Slow on the Polytrack suits certain profiles far more than others, and with a 14-runner handicap, a novice stakes, and a competitive 3yo handicap over seven furlongs all on the agenda, there are angles worth pressing. The Gosden yard has been firing with eight wins from 31 runners in the last 14 days, so anything they throw at this card deserves respect. Let’s get into it.

7:30 โ€” Unibet Novice Stakes (1m3f, Standard To Slow)

Selection: Water To Wine (3/10 Boyle Sports and Betfred)

Yes, odds-on. No apology for it. Water To Wine, ridden by Ryan Moore and trained by John and Thady Gosden, is the standout on any honest reading of this card. The Gosden yard sits at 21% strike rate at Kempton and has been in exceptional form over the past fortnight. Water To Wine bolted up on debut at Newbury over this trip, the market was strong throughout, and his connections had him pencilled in for the Chester Vase before a temperature scratched that plan. An Arc entry at around 50-1 tells you exactly what the team think of him. He carries a 7lb penalty, but at 1m3f on Standard to Slow Polytrack, he meets nothing that looks remotely capable of extending him.

The stablemate Humphrey is the one to watch in the betting. Related to Listed and Group 2 winners, he’s unraced and the market will tell a story, but Water To Wine has already shown his hand and it’s a strong one. Moore booking alone is a statement of intent.

The 3/10 is short, obviously. This is a confidence play, not a value play, and the each-way terms are irrelevant at this price. Back it win only and move on.

8:00 โ€” Unibet Supports Safer Gambling Handicap (7f, Standard To Slow)

Selection: Ya Karim Each-Way (7/2 Betfred and LiveScore Bet)

Harry Charlton’s Ya Karim, ridden by Oisin Murphy, makes his handicap debut here off a mark that looks workable given his form profile. He broke his duck at Yarmouth over seven furlongs, and his debut at this course and distance produced a promising third in September, with the winner subsequently landing the Dante and the runner-up winning twice more. That is serious form working through. His most recent run came in a hot novice at Yarmouth, where he raced freely in a hood and stepped up to a mile, so stripping the headgear and dropping back to his best trip is an obvious positive. The gelding operation since should settle him further.

Murphy is a 18% winner at Kempton and his A/E of 0.9 is solid across a huge sample. Charlton’s yard has gone five from 15 in the last fortnight, which is sharp form for any handler. Rail draw in a 14-runner field is an additional plus at Kempton, where position matters. Four places at 1/5 the odds gives this genuine each-way substance at 7/2.

Caviar Cowboy at 7/2 or 10/3 is also worth considering. He’s improved his RPR with every start and Fanshawe’s yard is running at a healthy clip. But Ya Karim’s form depth and the booking of Murphy gives him the edge for the spot on the shortlist.

8:30 โ€” Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Handicap (1m4f, Standard To Slow)

Selection: Ernst Blofeld (4/1 Boyle Sports and Betfred)

The market has already found this one. Ernst Blofeld opened up as the 4/1 favourite and it’s not hard to see why. He made his winning debut at Kempton itself, so this is a course he already knows. He then had two poor runs for the Gosdens but underwent a gelding operation before reappearing at Newmarket 12 days ago. That return run strongly suggested the new trip of 1m4f is exactly what he wants. Billy Loughnane, who is 16% at this course and has a positive A/E of 1.01, takes the ride and is 1 from 2 for the yard, which is a tidy record to cite. The new trainer Hamad Al Jehani hasn’t set the world alight in the last fortnight but the switch from Gosden to a smaller yard post-gelding is a classic pattern when connections believe a horse has a win coming.

The field is competitive enough that each-way looks tempting at 4/1, but with four places on offer and a horse who suits the track and trip, a win-only bet at the current price carries its own merits.

Keep an eye on Steel Tiger for the Crisfords at 16/1 each-way. Goes well fresh, has a tongue-tie fitted for the first time, and the spotlight commentary flags him as “of interest.” If Ernst Blofeld weakens, Steel Tiger could be filling a place.

Odds: 7/2 โ€” Betfred (others: 7/2 LiveScore Bet, SP Boyle Sports)

Handicap debut off a mark that understates his ability, with debut form that subsequently produced a Dante winner and a dual winner in the same race. Dropping back to his optimum seven furlongs, shedding the hood, and returning to a surface he has won on. Oisin Murphy in the saddle with Charlton’s yard firing at five from 15 in the last fortnight. Four places at 1/5 makes this a proper each-way bet at an honest price in a wide-open 14-runner field.
