At a big price, Cumulonimbus at 33/1 (Betfred) actually rates best on figures according to the data, with distance and going experience in hand. That 410-day absence is a brutal ask for trust, but at the price, a small each-way saver is not entirely without logic in a four-place race. For most punters, though, Forever Penywern is the sensible anchor.

Thirteen runners in a two-year-old fillies’ novice over seven furlongs, and with three places paid this is very much each-way territory for anything priced above single figures.

The selection here is Miss Miniver at 3/1 with Boyle Sports and LiveScore Bet, representing Roger Varian’s yard. Varian strikes at 21% at Kempton across his full record here, making him one of the course’s most reliable operators, and his last 14 days show seven winners from 28 runners. That is a yard in form, and when Varian sends a runner out at a price like this in a novice, it is worth taking seriously. Jack Mitchell takes the ride, a booking that rarely suggests a confidence-free runner.

The form reads 12, a second followed by a win, and everything about this filly screams a well-prepared, improving type ready to win again. There is no each-way case here at odds-on in a five-runner race.

The more interesting angle is Lunella at 13/2 (Boyle Sports), trained by Ollie Sangster, who has been in excellent nick with three winners from 12 runners in the last fortnight. A debut third followed by a second suggests this filly is knocking on the door of a first win. If Manaar underperforms or the market has underestimated the step up to a mile and a half, Lunella is best placed to capitalise. Jack Mitchell on Manaar means Lunella gets the services of a capable booking in her own right.

Manaar wins this if she runs to her potential. Lunella is the value play for those wanting a bigger price in a small field where second is still a paid position.
