Kilbeggan, Sunday 1 June 2026: Tips and Analysis

Rain is falling on Kilbeggan and the going is Good to Yielding, which suits horses that can travel through a bit of give rather than needing a bog. Three races stand out on this seven-race card: the 12-runner handicap chase at 5:00, the maiden hurdle at 2:26, and the beginners chase at 4:30. Here is where the value lies.

2:26 โ€” Adare Manor Opportunity Maiden Hurdle (2m3f)

Selection: Captain Hanley (9/4 Boyle Sports)

This is a wide-open maiden hurdle on paper, but the form angle on Captain Hanley deserves serious respect. He is a Flat maiden after 18 attempts, rated a modest 51 in that sphere, which makes his hurdling debut at Clonmel all the more eyecatching. Despite suffering interference, he stayed on well over a similar trip. The crucial detail is that the winner of that race, Minella Diamond, went to Limerick on Thursday and won easily. When debut form is franked that quickly and that convincingly, you take notice.

Alan O’Sullivan takes the ride and trainer Eamonn O’Connell has no recent runners to show a yard stat, but this horse’s profile is moving in the right direction. Facile Ocean (5/2) and Gunnery Sergeant (3/1) are the market dangers. Facile Ocean showed improvement on hurdling debut here 16 days ago but still needs to learn to settle. Gunnery Sergeant has been placed twice in maiden hurdles this season, but his form value is questionable and he was beaten well over fences at this track last time. Captain Hanley’s form looks the most solid in context, and 9/4 is workable given the fast-moving collateral form behind him.

4:30 โ€” Geoff Scally Centra Summerhill Beginners Chase (2m4ยฝf)

Selection: Warriors Wood (4/1 Boyle Sports)

Wait, this runner is not in the beginners chase card. Let me focus on what the data shows for the 4:30.

Selection: Billie Frechette (7/2 Boyle Sports)

Noel Meade’s yard is operating at 19% at Kilbeggan over time and currently has 3 wins from 25 runners in the past 14 days. The horse to note here is Billie Frechette. She is a dual-purpose Flat winner who has already shown promise over fences in two previous chase attempts, earning a rating of 117. Her last two runs tell a decent story: a 17-length second behind the talented Supersundae at this exact course and distance in April, then a 9-length fourth at Killarney over a similar trip 22 days ago. She is not winning by a distance but she is learning the job, travelling well on Good to Yielding ground, and the form she brings into this beginners chase is ahead of most in here.

Londonofficecallin (5/1) is interesting, coming off a Cork Derby win on the Flat in good form, but making a chase debut at nine years old without the breeding for it is a real risk. Chichester Park (15/2) is one to consider each-way given the dam’s chasing connections and the yard coming into form, but Billie Frechette has the strongest chase-specific profile in the field at a fair price.

5:00 โ€” GUY Clothing Handicap Chase (2m4ยฝf, 12 runners)

Selection: Warriors Wood Each-Way (4/1 Boyle Sports)

Twelve runners, four places at 1/5 odds. Warriors Wood is the standout each-way proposition in this race. The profile is compelling: he relished good ground last summer, winning over hurdles at this exact course and also at Ballinrobe. He unseated at Tramore on his chase debut, so he is still learning, but the key line in the form is that he finished a clear second to only a warm favourite over course and distance just 16 days ago. The commentators say he could be hard to beat now, and on Good to Yielding ground at a track he clearly loves, the angle is strong. Brian Hayes is an experienced partner.

Trainer Andrew McNamara has only had four runners in the past 14 days but has one winner from those, showing the yard is not completely dormant. Trasna Na Pairce (7/2 to 4/1) represents Henry De Bromhead’s yard, which runs at 18% here with an A/E of 0.99, and the horse placed behind Bridie’s Beau at Clonmel, but is 0-6 over fences which is a damning stat. No Flies On Him (4/1) has the headgear first time, which occasionally sparks an improvement, but has only placed twice in ten chase starts. Warriors Wood gets the nod for the form freshness and course suitability.

Bridie’s Beau (8/1 to 9/1) is worth a small each-way flutter if you want a longer price, as the new headgear combination can sometimes ignite a fresh performance, but his best form is on soft to heavy ground and today’s Good to Yielding may just be enough of a question mark. Warriors Wood is the play.

Today’s NAP

Jockey silksWarriors Wood โ€” GUY Clothing Handicap Chase (5:00, Kilbeggan)
Odds: 4/1 โ€” Boyle Sports (others: 4/1 Betfred, 7/2 LiveScore Bet)

Course winner, ground confirmed to suit on Good to Yielding, and a clear second over course and distance just 16 days ago behind a well-backed favourite. He is learning with every chase run and Brian Hayes knows how to get the best from this type. In a 12-runner handicap with four places on offer, this is a strong each-way case at the top of the market.
